Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle. Standing on a double plinth there is a panelled base and moulded trunk door. The pull forward hood is flanked by quarter columns with brass capitals. The case retains the original caddy top surmounted by two finials. The square dial has an applied chapter ring with cherubin spandrels. This very large and substantial antique wine bottle's exact origins are unknown, but it is presumed to be English or possibly Dutch and dating from the early 1700's. The bottle was hand blown and formed and uses a very thick deep olive green glass. The slightly bent neck has a very thick stem and top which leads to a large bulbous or flask shaped base. The front and back sides have been slightly flattened which was likely done for packing and stability during shipping.
