Rubber Dining Room Tables

A 1995 production of designer Joe D’Urso’s minimalist 1980 High Table for Knoll with American cherry racetrack top and chrome legs. Top features a handsome expanse of richly-hued and finely-grained American cherry veneer—darker in person than in most photos—with a matching underside and black rubber trim. Striking legs are chrome-finished metal with thin black plastic glides. Support elements are satin black powder-coated steel. More typically seen with caster wheels, the individual from whom we acquired this table stated that it was special ordered intentionally without them. Retains Knoll label with production details and date. A prime example of interior designer D’Urso’s understated collaborations with Knoll that reflects his ability to adapt his signature minimalist treatment of space to furniture. From Knoll’s website: “Celebrated minimalist and internationally renowned interior designer Joseph D’Urso first translated his signature spare aesthetic to furniture for Knoll in 1980. With simple lines, lean proportions and industrial materials, the collection of tables reflects D’Urso’s preference for objects that look more engineered than styled. ‘The tables span any function from home to office,’ explains D’Urso. ‘I tried to create a palette of choices so one can decide what is most appropriate for each situation.’ “Known as a preeminent member of the 1980s ‘high-tech’ movement, Joseph D’Urso studied interior design and architecture at Pratt Institute, Royal College of Art in London, and Manchester College of Art and Design.
