Umberto Mascagni Dining Table

About the Item

Handsome Italian modern dining table produced in Italy mid-1950's. by Umberto Mascagni of Bologna and imported to the UK by I. Barget Ltd. then retailed through Harrods among other stores. Table top covered in skai, a then new material, similar to naugahyde, with the look of faux parchment. Edge of table is banded with aluminum channel trim with black rubber, similar to marine bumper guard sometimes seen on boats. Tapered round wood legs are also wrapped in black faux leather skai. The length of each leg is inset with aluminum T-edge trim. Feet are capped with solid brass ferrules. Convenient size for a smaller dining or writing table. Clearance from floor to underside of table is 25.75 inches. Legs unscrew for ease of transport. We also have the companion dining chairs listed separately. Mascagni became known for his innovative use of new materials in furniture designs which were considered provocative in the post-war decade. In 1952, he created a new line of furniture using materials such as "Skai" (PVC) upholstery and anodized aluminum.
