This plate was published in Henry Wallis's important study Persian Lustre Vases, privately printed in London in 1899 in a strictly limited edition of only 200 copies. Wallis was among the pioneering British scholars and collectors who helped introduce Islamic decorative arts to European audiences at the close of the nineteenth century. Printed using the sophisticated chromolithographic techniques of the Victorian era, the image faithfully captures the iridescent qualities and intricate surface decoration of the original vessel.
