EMDL-1
By Bill Kane
Located in London, GB
Pigment on canvas - Unframed. Edition of 3. The Emanations series is an attempt to express the spiritual potential of the most essential aspect of photography: light. Each work in the series began its evolution as a scanned image of a Buddhist thangka—a spiritual painting of a Buddhist deity—which was then blurred and stretched until all that remained was a distilled image of color and form. These reduced images were then printed onto canvases, resulting in what Kane refers to as elemental “representations of the light bodies of the Buddhas.” Bill Kane...

Seebenstein Castle Courtyard, Austria, large color etching
By Luigi Kasimir
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Seebenstein Castle, Austria" 1920 is a color etching on watermarked Kasimir Vienna paper by Austrian artist Luigi Kasimir, 1881-1962. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist's estate at the lower center. The plate mark (image) size is 15.75 x 22.25 inches, the sheet size is 23.25 x 29.5 inches. with full margin. it is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist. Luigi Kasimir was born in 1881 at Pettau, today Ptuj, Slovenia, then a part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. He inherited his talent from his ancestors; his grandfather was a painter and a poet, and his father an officer in the Habsburg army, who later became a professional painter. Kasimir attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under Wilhelm Unger, who introduced him to the technique of the coloured etching, and also to his future wife, the artist Tanna Hoernes.[1] He died in 1962 in Grinzing, a suburb of Vienna.Kasimir was among the first to develop the technique of the coloured etching. Before this, prints were usually hand-coloured with the colour being applied in a casual, haphazard manner. Kasimir would first create a sketch usually in pastel, he then transferred the design on as many as four to six plates, printing one after the other and applying the colour on the plate, all done by hand. Kasimir is mainly famous for his etchings, but he also produced some oil painting, as well as some pastels. One of his favourite genres was the landscape, or veduta. He demonstrated a predisposition street scenes, and tourist landmarks. He depicted places from all over Europe, mainly Italy, Austria, and Germany. He also travelled to the United States to do a series of etchings of famous sights ranging from urban landmarks such as New York City skyscrapers, to natural wonders like Yosemite Valley. Luigi Kasimir’s etchings...

Parallel
By Dan Corbin
Located in Napa, CA
Cast bronze & Oxide Patina Dan Corbin's sculptures are a convergence of conceptualism and the human figure, illuminating what it feels like to be alive during current times, with all its beauty, complexity, contradictions, and possibilities. The artist’s sculptures address issues of contemporary society - materialism, industrialization and cultural change - while simultaneously referring to a wide range of human emotions. His sculptures lift the spirit while questioning what it is to be human. In Corbin’s archetype of man, intellect and soul are separate from the body. Armless, headless, anonymous cores can now be broken down to the smallest units, analyzed, engineered, beautified, and commodified. Corbin’s articulation of figurative sculpture takes iconography of the present and embeds it in the surface of his sculptures. He calls these miniature time capsules ‘inclusions’. Objects like cosmetic bottles, action figures, dolls, and feeder fish are sealed in resin and strategically embedded throughout the body. With these ‘inclusions’ the figure becomes a technologically enhanced vessel. The human body is no longer a container for a perfect being, handed down by god or evolution, but an aesthetically enhanced harbinger of a new era. In combination with the ‘inclusions’ Corbin uses a multitude of industrial materials, emphasizing the intrinsic value and physical properties of each. Each surface becomes fully charged with content, primed for multiple interpretations. Dan Corbin has been included in notable exhibitions at galleries and institutions including the Museum of Northern California Art...

Under Pressure AP
By Amanda & Björn Sjöling
Located in Napa, CA
Bjorn Sjoling has worked in many mediums, including oil painting, stained glass, wrought iron design and traditional sculpture. With a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Sjoling is fascinated by mechanics and possesses an uncanny aptitude for understanding and manipulating the mechanical world. He is drawn to the hidden workings of the human body, and of this, the Remains to be Seen collaborative series was born. Remains to be Seen is created in close conjunction with his wife and artistic partner, Amanda Sjoling. The series peels away the external layers of our corporal bodies to showcase the beauty of the mechanical framework of skeletons. These expressive and humorous figures, cast in the traditional lost wax process, are life-size and completely anatomically correct limited edition works. The Sjoling team aims to create such quality bronze works that they present just as well from a distance as they do upon close examination. The works are both nobody and everybody at the same time through their lack of external characteristics. The Sjoling team aims to facilitate the viewer’s thoughts through such expansive and intricate topics as love, vanishing consumerism and greed, and life and death by offering the observer a universal portrait and a profound dichotomy that is so simple that it is obvious. Sjoling currently works out of the United Kingdom and ÆRENA Galleries...

L'efant aux biscuit (Child with Cookie)
By Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Located in Palo Alto, CA
An intimate portrait of his second son, Jean Renoir (1894 – 1979), evokes a childlike sentiment and love that Renoir had for his children. Most likely no more than age 3, Jean is shown here with a cookie, beneath a frilly bonnet characteristic of late 19th century French society. His pink, rosy cheeks are defined with rich, glowing hues that contrast from the pale yellow and grey background in which he rests. Jean was also featured in a family portrait of the Renoirs, titled La Famille de l’Artiste (1896). Created in 1899, this Color Lithograph on Cream Laid Paper is from the edition of 100, from the unpublishedL’Album d’estampes originales de la Galerie Vollard; printed by Auguste Clot, Paris. Catalogue Raisonné: It is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts (copies will be enclosed as added documentation with the invoices that will accompany the final sale of the work): 1. Untitled (Fantastic Scene)
By Michael Bowen
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Untitled, Fantastic Scene" c.1975 is an original color etching with aquatint on wove paper by American surrealist artist Michael Bowen, 1937-2009. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist. The plate mark (image) size is 14.85 x 18 inches, sheet size is 21.5 x 26 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the subject: Nowhere is the intertwining of metaphysical, biographic and social narratives more evident than in the Café Life series painted in the 1980’s. Though the “series” was done in the 80’s, the pieces really revive the spirit of the Beat café scene, which began in the mid-1950’s and which was so instrumental to the particular spiritual and social vibe of the counter culture. And his Café Life observations continue over his artist life with scenes, such as the ones here, from Los Angles, Bolinas, Mexico and Italy. About the artist: Michael Bowen (December 8, 1937 – March 7, 2009) was an American fine artist known as one of the co-founders of the late 20th and 21st century Visionary art movements. His works include paintings on canvas and paper, 92 intaglio etchings based on Jungian psychology, assemblage, bronze sculpture, collage, and handmade art books. An icon of the American Beat Generation and the 1960s counterculture, Bowen is also known for his role in inspiring and organizing the first Human Be-In in San Francisco. Chronicled in books and periodicals reflecting on the turbulent 1960s, Bowen's historical impact on both the literary and visual art worlds is well documented. He remains influential among avant-garde art circles around the world. He started his art career at age 17, when he joined the American installation artist Ed Kienholz in his Los Angeles studio. There he met and joined with other influential Beat Generation artists including Wallace Berman, John Altoon, and Dennis Hopper. Bowen participated in the construction of the Ferus Gallery and Now Gallery created by Ed Kienholz and curated by Walter Hopps. Bowen attended the Chouinard Art Institute for several years during his formative artistic experiences in Los Angeles. In the late 50s and early 60s, Bowen continued his spiritual training and research. He investigated and practiced a variety of occult topics, Eastern philosophies, and mysticism, and his artwork reflected these themes. Bowen is often referred to as a mystic artist. As a lifelong student of the Bhagavad-Gita, Bowen's entire career has emulated the spiritual warrior archetype of Arjuna, fighting for the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. Michael Bowen moved to San Francisco in the late 1950s, and along with fellow artist comrades Arthur Monroe...

Sunlit (studies)
By Thomas Monaghan
Located in Napa, CA
Oil on Canvas Monaghan's paintings have always shown a sensitivity and reverence for light on the cusp of change. Says Monaghan, “Many of my paintings which depict dawn or dusk represent a special place and time when I am most compelled to reflect on nature, study its elements, and meditate on the way light and shadow interact. The process of change at these times makes me attentive.” In his current work, Monaghan investigates the effects of transitional light on water. One sees the glint of a low, strong sun bursting through trees and the heavy filter of atmosphere in these paintings. Light and wind conspire to create bold, abstract designs on a lake surface. Monaghan creates an evocative realism in his paintings, made all the more compelling by his skillful handling of paint. Textures and surfaces are built up, and the fluid application of these materials effectively embodies the qualities of water and land. Upon close inspection, realism takes a back seat to process and the physical effects of paint and glazes. All of these qualities unite to evoke memories of time and place. Monaghan’s paintings can be found in the collections of Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios, Walt Disney and Universal Studios, I.B.M., Baron Hilton, Helene Curtis and Fuji Corporations, The Prudential, LaSalle National Bank, The Chicago Mercantile Exchange...
