Javier Calleja
El Pan De Cada Día (Everyday Bread)

2013

About the Item

Javier Calleja El Pan De Cada Día (Everyday Bread), 2013 is a stunning work that exemplifies the artists interests and influences in cartoons and comics that are imbued with creative ingenuity. Following the artists signature style of characters with large head and disproportionately sized eyes, this work features a man with a cloud shaped head, wide blue rendered eyes, and a smiling mouth with visible teeth and tongue. The figure is wearing a red shirt with a hamburger with text underneath that reads “MY BIG BURGER” as well as text at the top that reads “EL PAN DE CADA DIA”, another staple feature of Calleja’s works as he introduces inappropriate texts somewhere amongst the work. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, Calleja found his influence and inspiration from the cartoons and comics he read as a child, in particular, the Mazinger Z cartoons and Francisco Ibañes Talavera’s comics. Developing his style from a young age, his work carries some of the characteristics and influences of the cartoons and comics he ingested as a child, as well as his own interpretations to the style. Created in 2013, this acrylic on paper is signed by Javier Calleja (Spain, 1978 - ). This is a unique and original work. About the Framing: Calleja El Pan De Cada Día (Everyday Bread), 2013 is framed to museum-grade, conservation standards, presented in a complementary moulding and optical grade Plexiglas.
