Joan Miró
Les Essencies de la Terra

1969

About the Item

This bright and lively work was originally created for a poster showcasing Miró's works at the Galleria del Milione, Milan. Bold colors, lively imagery, and vivid spontaneity are standard to Miró's iconic works, and this piece is no exception. The central form, reminiscent of a musical note, appears alive with energy. One can clearly witness the exuberance of Miró's bold strokes in the circular formations at the center, which retain a painterly quality. Miró's curious shapes and figures frolic about the composition and even his name at the bottom appears as if in motion, whimsically conveyed in his unique style. Created in 1969, this original color lithograph is hand signed with Miró's monogram in the lower right margin in pencil by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983). This work is numbered from the edition of 200 in pencil in the lower left. This work was published and printed by Poligrafa, Barcelona.. DOCUMENTED AND ILLUSTRATED IN: 1. Maeght Éditeur, Joan Miró Lithographe vol. III 1964-1969, listed as cat. No. 625 (another example illustrated). ABOUT THE FRAMING: This work is framed to museum-grade, conservation standards, presented in a complementary moulding and optical grade Plexiglas.

Marc Chagall L'oranger (The Orange Tree), 1975 delicately illustrates an outing between two young lovers as the idle in an orchard. Though their faces are muted, detailed in a lighter color grey so that their facial features aren’t so pronounced, the young man stares in profile, gazing down at his partner with admiration in his eye. His visible left hand gingerly touches her arm, a subtle gesture of intimacy. The woman in the image faces the viewer directly, soft features gazing ahead of her as she leans into her partner. Clutched in her hands is a wire basket filled with the surrounding flora, fauna, and fruit. A small, yellow goat...
