Large and Richly Carved 17th Century Walnut and Oak Trunk from Spain
Located in Dallas, TX
A beautiful and robust Spanish trunk, the carvings on the front façade are large and vibrant, accented by a deep brown patina. The trunk was hand-carved in the 1600s by a master craftsman, using both oak and walnut woods. Large dovetail joineries, visible on the sides, add character to the trunk, without taking away from the magnificent carvings.
Two large, pierced iron straps support the massive trunk lid, which is embellished with several thin moldings. Both sides have an ovate handle affixed by a pierced floral mount, above an arbalete apron. The sinuosity continues on the front apron, but in more dramatic fashion, with a series of counter curves. Above the apron is a raised area (also seen on the sides) adorned with a winged angel mascaron inside of a shaped console, flanked by a large rosette atop a vine that is surrounded by a foliate border. A similar foliate carving can be seen on the recessed section of the façade, encircling another well-carved cartouche. The upper scene consists of a heart surmounting flowering leaves (beneath a shaped escutcheon), flanked by a pair of niches filled with sunbursts over flowering vines, which are in turn flanked by larger sunbursts personified with a mascaron center. All four sunbursts are incorporated with a cross, which, when depicted with the heart, symbolizes “love for all mankind”.
Our richly carved Spanish trunk...

Tomaso Buzzi Masterwork 1930 Triennale of Modern Decorative Arts Monza, Italy
By Tomaso Buzzi
Located in Dallas, TX
Early and important Tomaso Buzzi dining room server cabinet embellished with ornately detailed marquetry depicting the entrance to the ‘Bosphorus Straits’. The artwork is an imaginative rendition of one of the most economically and geopolitically important locations on the planet, namely, the vital trade route between East and West through the ancient city port of Constantinople or modern-day Istanbul. The piece reflects the influences of various historic Empires in the region, including Egypt in North Africa to the North West, and The Greek and Roman Empires to the North East, and the Turks to the East. The scene portrays a time when countless battles occurred in these provinces in order to control the flow of Maritime trade between the Continents of the Northeastern Hemisphere and The Orient or the Far East, along the ‘silk road’. The illustration includes numerous architectural icons including the Pyramids of Giza, Roman Colosseums, Roman Aqueducts, Greek Acropolis style buildings, The Galata Tower, The Obelisk of Theodosius, Rumelifeneri Castle, and The Blue Mosque of Istanbul amongst others. A variety of seafaring vessels, marine life, and geological landmarks are also included in the panorama.
This masterwork was executed by Buzzi during his tenure at the school of arts and crafts in Sao Paulo Brazil in the late 1920s. This was during the time he joined the "Novecento Milanese" Group and began to collaborate with Gio Ponti on the newly developed Design Magazine, Domus. The cabinet was showcased as a centerpiece in the 8th Triennale of Modern Decorative Arts in Monza, Italy in 1930. It is well documented and retains the original brass plaque from the Institutional Authority of the Arts in Brazil. A copy of a promotional postcard from the exhibition signed by Buzzi and featuring this cabinet is part of the Buzzi Archive.

By Beni Mrirt, Berber Tribes of Morocco
Located in Dallas, TX
20961 Vintage Red Beni Mrirt Moroccan Rug, 06'06 x 09'11. Witness the captivating allure of this vintage Beni Mrirt Moroccan rug, a masterful creation from the Mrirt region in the Middle Atlas Mountains, meticulously crafted by the skilled artisans of the Beni Mrirt tribe within Morocco's expansive Berber ethnic group. Immersed in luminous fiery hues, this Moroccan rug reveals itself as a canvas of abstract expressionism, reminiscent of painterly brush strokes. Its rich waves of abrash and softly gradated striations weave tales selvage to selvage, telling a story that transcends mere simplicity. In Morocco, this mystical shade symbolizes strength and protection, captivating hearts across art, fashion, and interior design scenes. Beyond being a floor covering, this red Beni Mrirt carpet has the transformative power to turn nearly any space into an extraordinary masterpiece.
Going beyond its mystical aura, this vintage Moroccan rug becomes a living embodiment of Abstract Expressionism, echoing the bold color blocks reminiscent of Mark Rothko. Loetz Pampas Glass And Metal Mounted Vase
Czech Republic
Circa 1900
Unmarked
Height: 7.5 Inches, handle to handle 8.25 Inches
Condition: Very good with wear commensurate of age and use with some loss to gilt,
The Loetz glassworks existed in Klostermuhle, Austria, for just over a hundred years, starting from 1840. But its heyday was during the life-time of Max Ritter Von Spaun, grandson of the original Johann Loetz who had founded the company. Von Spaun took over the company in 1879 and ran it until 1908, a year before his death. He was assisted by Eduard Prochaska, his technical specialist, and together they invented, designed and produced a whole series of wonderful new types of glass, taking out several patents and winning awards at all the major world exhibitions during the 1890's and the first years of the new century.
The Loetz company were amongst the leaders in Art Nouveau design and expecially in irridescent art glass. "Papillon" glass, like the vase on the left, is sometimes known today as "oil spot" glass. Another favourite Loetz colouring was irridized glass with pulled trails called "Phenomenon" glass. There were irridized vases with ribbons of metallic colours winding over the surface, and many spectacular designs with applied trails of beautiful colours, or simply pulled out of the body of the glass to form handles or decoration.
About 1900 the company started collaborating with outside designers, and some great artists designed pieces for Lotz, notably Joseph Hofmann, Koloman Moser, Maria Kirchner, and Hofstatter.
In 1908 Loetz was taken over by Max Von Spaun's son, also called Max, and although it struggled financially (going through bankruptcy in 1911 and again in 1931) there were several great designers whose work was produced by Loetz during those years and through the art deco period. These included Adolf Beckert...

Located in Dallas, TX
78393 Vintage Moroccan Rag Rug, Berber Boucherouite 05'04 x 08'00. This hand-knotted vintage Boucherouite Moroccan rag rug exudes nomadic charm, skillfully woven with incredible detail and texture. The Moroccan rug’s design is a captivating blend of vibrant colors and geometric motifs, with an expressive diamond pattern that commands attention. The harmonious fusion of hues draws from the spirit of Moroccan culture, while the use of recycled textiles demonstrates an eco-conscious approach to craftsmanship. Its dynamic color palette is highlighted by bold, contrasting tones that bring a lively energy to any room.
The abrashed field of the Moroccan Boucherouite rug showcases an intricate geometric arrangement of concentric lozenges, organized in three vertical columns. This striking design conveys a sense of symmetry and movement, reminiscent of the cultural significance placed on such patterns within Berber traditions. The alternating colors within the lozenges create visual depth, while the overall design retains a sense of balance and unity, characteristic of the Berber weavers' keen eye for detail and mastery of pattern.
In true Berber fashion, this vintage Boucherouite rug...
