Red Grooms (born Charles Rogers Grooms on June 7, 1937) is an American multimedia artist best known for his colorful pop-art constructions depicting frenetic scenes of modern urban life. Grooms was given the nickname "Red" by Dominic Falcone (of Provincetown's Sun Gallery) when he was starting out as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Provincetown and was studying with Hans Hofmann.
Grooms was born in Nashville, Tennessee during the middle of the Great Depression. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, then at Nashville's Peabody College. In 1956, Grooms moved to New York City, to enroll at the New School for Social Research. A year later, Grooms attended a summer session at the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in Provincetown, Massachusetts. There he met experimental animation pioneer Yvonne Andersen, with whom he collaborated on several short films. Grooms follows in the tradition of William Hogarth and Honoré Daumier, who were canny commentators on the human condition. In 1969, Peter Schjeldahl compared Grooms to Marcel Duchamp, because both embodied "a movement of one man that is open to everybody."
In the spring of 1958, Grooms, Yvonne Andersen and Lester Johnson each painted twelve-foot by twelve-foot panels, which they erected with telephone poles on a parking lot adjacent an amusement park in Salisbury, MA. Inspired by artist-run spaces such as New York's Hansa Gallery and Phoenix, and Provincetown's Sun Gallery, Grooms and painter Jay Milder opened the City Gallery in Grooms' second-floor loft in the Flatiron District. When Phoenix refused to show Claes Oldenburg, Grooms and Milder dropped out of Phoenix and City Gallery presented Oldenberg's first New York exhibition, as well as that of Jim Dine. Other artists who showed at City Gallery include Stephen Durkee, Mimi Gross (daughter of Chaim Gross and Red grooms wife), Bob Thompson, Lester Johnson, and Alex Katz.

Layers of torn ripped, and painted paper with music notes are overlaid on top of each other in this contemporary collage assemblage composition with a jazz sensibility. The pieces of paper have been arbitrarily arranged while in contrast, the artist has applied color in this piece in a very thoughtful way. John Everette Rozelle is an internationally renowned artist from St. Louis, Missouri now living in Banyoles, Girona. He is a masterful collagist, painter and sculptor included in museums and private collections worldwide. John Rozelle was born in St. Louis, Missouri and holds a B.F.A with a major in painting and a minor in sculpture from Washington University and a M.F.A from Fontbonne College. John Rozelle is currently tenured Associate Professor in the Drawing and Painting Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Prior to joining the Art Institute faculty he taught drawing, design, painting, and sculpture as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Fontbonne College. Rozelle has served on numerous occasions as curator, juror, and artist-in-residence for several exhibitions. His twenty years of solo and group shows have included those in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
His work is housed among various corporate collections some of which include: Anheuser Busch, Citibank Corp., AT&T, Borg-Warner, Price Waterhouse, Saks Fifth Avenue, the Seven-Up Company, Ralston Purina, the Westin Hotels and ARCO.
Rozelle is currently tenured Associate Professor in the Drawing and Painting Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His art can be found in over 20 public collections and in over 50 private collections throughout the United States. This is a textile wall hanging tapestry "painting" made from vintage jeans.
JJ had a masters (MFA) from Prat and studied at Hunter college for many years. He was a master jeweler and goldsmith for 50 years, a musician and a photographer. He made a living working with photography, jewelry, bronze sculpture and antique restoration. An artwork in denim fabric by a French Post War & Contemporary artist living in New York City, Jean de la Verrière, An untrained, art brut, 'outsider' artist, now 85. He sold some of his denim patriotic flag works through OK Harris gallery in Soho in the 1980s, one went directly to Ralph Lauren, according to the artist. He is also known for sculpture. particularly his working model, fully functional guillotine sculptures. Artist says he was influenced by Pop Art particularly Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns works. He was in the New York art world along with his artist friends Bernar Venet, Arman and Claude Gillie. He fabricated and cast jewelry for some of his friends. This has a Sterling Ruby feel to it but was done a generation earlier. Mario Ceroli, born 1938 in Castel Frentano, Province of Chieti, Italy
Mario Ceroli is an Italian sculptor. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, Mississippi. Ceroli is one of the most influential artists of the Italian post-war period. Ceroli moved to Rome at the age of ten where he later graduated from 'Accademia delle Belle Arti'. At the Art Institute he worked under the guidance of Leoncillo Leonardi, Pericle Fazzini and Ettore Colla, where he experimented with the use of ceramic. In 1958, he first exhibited these works at the Premium Spoleto. In the same year Ceroli held his first solo exhibition at Galleria San Sebastianello of Rome. During 1959 he began to experiment with new materials, particularly with raw wood, such as Russian pinewood. He used these materials to create silhouetted shapes in his furniture and objects that related simplistically to the surrounding space. In the 1960's Ceroli took part in exhibitions related to the "Arte de Povera" group. He had also been involved as screenplay director collaborating with "II Teatro Stabile" in Turin and with "La Scala" In Milan. He was part of the generation of Italian post war artists that included Aligliero Boetti, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Pino Pascali, Piero Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mimmo Rotella, Emilio Vedova. Sandro Visca, born in L'Aquila in 1944, has lived for many years in Pescara where from 1968 to 2003 he has taught Painting Disciplines at the Academy Section of the "G. Misticoni "(and among his many students, we remember at least the explosive talent of Andrea Pazienza). He made his debut early in important exhibitions, and already in '62 he was selected for the National Design Biennial "Premio Recoaro Terme" together with artists such as Casorati, Capogrossi, Morandi and Guttuso. In 1963 he moved to Rome where he lived until 1967. Versatile and busy, he collaborated in those years with the important seasons of the Teatro Stabile dell'Aquila, realizing in 1969 the scenes of Alberto Burri for "The Adventure of a Poor Christian" by Ignazio Silone (directed by Valerio Zurlini). The meeting with Burri grows to friendship, human association no less than artistic. Together they will spend numerous hunting trips, among the Umbria of the master of Città di Castello and their arcane mountains of Abruzzo. In 1973 he was invited with a work of six meters, in the Italian section "The empty space of the Habitat" of the XV International Triennial of Milan. Passionate frequentist of his mountains, together for love of hiker and science of anthropologist, he realizes in '75 a very particular performance, which is gesture, ritual, manifest, and at the same time medium-length: "A red heart on the Gran Sasso...

Calman Shemi, sculptor and painter, was born in Argentina in 1939. A graduate of the School of Sculpture and Ceramics in Mendoza, he studied under the Italian-Argentinean sculptor Libero Badii whom he credits with putting him on the right path. “He taught me principals, not only related to sculpture, but human and philosophic principals. Shemi also carefully studied the work of such masters as Picasso, Caravaggio, Frank Stella and Matisse. “From each one of these great artists I learned something from observing them,” he says.
In 1961, at the age of 20, Shemi immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Carmia of which he was a member for twenty years. There he worked in agriculture and also as a sculptor working with wood and clay. Several of his large-scale fiberglass and polyester projects are situated in public buildings. He was a student of German-Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann, a pioneer of the artistic movement known as “Canaanism.”
Canaanite art was an effort to create a direct relationship with the land, bypassing historic Jewish connotations—hence the land’s primordial name is used. Canaanite works, with an emphasis on the inter-action of simple shapes, bear a deliberate resemblance to the sculpture and ritual art of early civilizations of the Middle East prior to Judaism, always with an eye to the fusion of man and the land itself.
Though sculpture dominated his early years as an artist, in the mid ’70s Shemi developed the idea of the “soft painting” medium. Beginning with a color drawing done to scale, Shemi layers onto the drawing irregularly shaped pieces of variously textured and colored fabrics. Born in 1962 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Sebastien De Ganay studied political science and film at Columbia University in New York 1986-1990 ( (Bachelor of Political Science, Master of Fine Arts in Cinema) and is co-founder and editor of the art book publishing house onestar press. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria.
de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric.
"The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux."
(Adrian Searle, art critic for The Guardian, London (1994)) In the style of Readymades and Arte Povera, de Ganay starts out from a simple utility material and combines this with an examination of the surface in the tradition of Minimal Art. He designed a limited edition chair "PLEASE" a “4 Piece Chair” customized by John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner and Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Sandro Visca, born in L'Aquila in 1944, has lived for many years in Pescara where from 1968 to 2003 he has taught Painting Disciplines at the Academy Section of the "G. Misticoni "(and among his many students, we remember at least the explosive talent of Andrea Pazienza). He made his debut early in important exhibitions, and already in '62 he was selected for the National Design Biennial "Premio Recoaro Terme" together with artists such as Casorati, Capogrossi, Morandi and Guttuso. In 1963 he moved to Rome where he lived until 1967. Versatile and busy, he collaborated in those years with the important seasons of the Teatro Stabile dell'Aquila, realizing in 1969 the scenes of Alberto Burri for "The Adventure of a Poor Christian" by Ignazio Silone (directed by Valerio Zurlini). The meeting with Burri grows to friendship, human association no less than artistic. Together they will spend numerous hunting trips, among the Umbria of the master of Città di Castello and their arcane mountains of Abruzzo. In 1973 he was invited with a work of six meters, in the Italian section "The empty space of the Habitat" of the XV International Triennial of Milan.
