"Two Reclining Nudes" Lithograph on Paper, Figurative, Female Nudes
Located in Detroit, MI
"Two Reclining Nudes" is an exceptional Lithograph of Pearlstein's Realistic style. The nudes are posed reclining, neither engaged with either each other or the viewer, and give the atmosphere of being in a dream state. It is an intimate scene without intimacy. Their full-figured bodies exude power and strength which is reinforced by not fitting within the frame. This Lithograph is #42 of an edition of 100 with one blind stamp, and signed by the artist all located in the upper left corner. Philip Pearlstein is an American painter born in Pittsburgh, PA, and best known for Modernist Realism nudes. Cited by critics as the preeminent figure painter of the 1960s to 2000s, he led a revival in realist art. He is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus with paintings in the collections of over 70 public art museums. In 1941, his junior year in high school, he received his first recognition when awarded first and third prizes in Scholastic Magazine’s 14th National High School Art Exhibition. Upon graduation from high school in 1942, he enrolled in the Carnegie Institute of Technology but the draft limited his attendance to one year. After discharge from the army in 1946, he returned to Carnegie Tech where he received his BFA in 1949. Upon graduation, he moved to New York City where he pursued work in graphic design and received a Master’s degree in art history from New York University in 1955. Pearlstein worked as a graphic designer for Life Magazine before becoming an instructor at the Pratt Institute, and then a professor at Brooklyn College; he has also served as a visiting artist at several prestigious institutions throughout the country. His work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions throughout the United States with paintings in the collections of over 70 public art museums. Pearlstein served as a President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters from 2003-2006 and currently lives and works in New York. “It is what is painted between the outlines that makes the difference between merely competent painting and really meaningful art.” —Philip Pearlstein In spring of 1946 he becomes assistant to Robert Lepper, head of the Design Program at Carnegie Institute of Technology, at the firm of Altenhof and Bown, Architects, and designs catalogs for building products through 1949. Meanwhile he enrolled at Carnegie Institute of Technology and studied with Robert Lepper, Balcomb Green, and Samuel Rosenberg. Meets Dorothy Cantor, George Klauber, and Andy Warhol (Warhola), fellow students at Carnegie Institute of Technology. Serves as art editor of the Carnegie Technical, the student publication of the Engineering School, through 1949 when he received his BFA and moved to New York to live with Andy Warhol. A few months later he worked with graphic designer Ladislav Sutnar in design and production of catalogs of plumbing fixtures and ventilators for the next eight years. He graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University where he studied with Karl Lehmann, Craig Smith and Jose Lopez-Rey. In 1954 Clement Greenberg selectd Pearlstein to be in “Emerging Talent” show at Kootz Gallery, New York. Torso is shown. Show includes Herman Cherry, Paul Freeley, Paul Georges, Cornelia Langer, Saul Leiter, Morris Louis, Anthony Louvis, Sue Mitchell, Kenneth Noland, and Theophil Groell. He received his M.A. in Art History from Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. His thesis on Francis Picabia with Jose Lopez-Rey and H.W. Janson as advisors. In September of 1958 he received a Fulbright Grant for Painting in Italy and traveled to Rome, Florence, Venice, Amalfi Coast and Sicily. Back in New York his drawing group includes at various times during the following thirteen years: Ann Arnold, Rudolph Burkhardt, Charles Cajori, Gretna Campbell, Lois Dodd, Louis Finkelstein, Joe Fiore, Sideo and Nora Fromboluti, Mary Frank, Stephen Greene, Theophil Groell (Repke), Philip Guston, Yvonne Jacquette, Diana Kurtz, Alex Katz, Gabriel Laberman, Mercedes Matter, George McNeil, Sidney Tillim, Jack Tworkov and William White. Meets initially in Mercedes Matter’s studio. Continues to meet with group at various locations, including his own studio through 1972. In 1969 and 1971 he received the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation grant. In 1982 he served as the Artist in Residence at the American Academy of Art, Rome. In addition to other numerous awards and honors he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Center for Creative Studies and the College of Art & Design, Detroit, Michigan in 2000. HOPES FOR PEACE Signed Lithograph Abstract Dove, Airbrush Colors, Spanish Artist
Located in Union City, NJ
HOPES FOR PEACE is a handmade color lithograph by the internationally recognized Spanish artist Cristóbal Gabarrón printed on archival Arches printmaking paper in 1986. HOPES FOR PEACE is an imaginative composition depicting an abstract bird expressed in airbrush colors as a dove symbolizing world peace. HOPES FOR PEACE is a visually appealing handmade lithograph printed in soft rainbow shades of purple, yellow, magenta pink, blue green, beige, light orange, gray and black. Print size - 11.0" x 8.5" unframed, vivid colors, excellent condition, pencil signed by Cristóbal Gabarrón Edition size - 500, Certificate of Authenticity included Cristóbal Gabarrón - HOPES FOR PEACE was specially commissioned by The World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) in 1986 - the International Year of Peace. Operating within the framework of the theme, "To Safeguard Peace and the Future of Humanity", the program for this special year was composed of the three primary components: Peace and Disarmament, Peace and Development and Preparation for Life in Peace. Cristóbal Gabarrón is a celebrated Spanish artist known for his work with the United Nations whose personal convictions are based on the individual human life, and the coexistence and the development of human values. Artist statement: “There is nothing as pure and innocent as a child’s creative imagination. Children are the future of our societies. We learn a lot from each other when interacting across generations and cultures on such issues that bind us together, such as human rights,” Artist bio - Cristóbal Gabarrón was born in the town of Mula (Murcia) in 1945, although at the age of six he moved with his family to live in Valladolid. He dedicated himself to painting from a very young age performing his first exhibitions, at the Galería Castilla de Valladolid and at the Galería Macarrón in Madrid. His work evolved from figuration to informalism, to the abstracción "symbolic and "postmodern," a "symbolic." In 1967, at the age of 22, Gabarrón exhibited at the Leob Gallery in New York and the Arts Perspective Gallery in Paris. His work has been marked by his life experience, humanism and his nomadic personality, which give him a unique, very personal style. A creation in continuous experimentation and evolution with strokes from its multiple rooms and exhibitions in different parts of the world. He currently resides between Bueu, on the Ria de Pontevedra and Valladolid, although he continues to be connected to his place of origin, the city of Mula. He received his first artistic training in Valladolid before continuing his career in France, Italy and the United States. Gabarrón's work is focused on his interest in humanism, for people's lives in harmony with their natural environment, for their peaceful coexistence and the development of human values. Their collaboration with international organizations, such as the International Olympic Committee or the United Nations, has led to a very fruitful period that lasts, following the exhibition of the Universe of Light (Enlightened Universe) inaugurated on 24 October 2015 at the famous Central Park in New York, by the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon on the 70th Anniversary of the creation of the United Nations and which every year travels cities from all over the world, to commemorate UN and Human Rights Day: Geneva (2016), Amsterdam (2017), Brussels (2018), Valladolid (2020), La Valeta (2022). His work has been the same center of analysis within retrospectives such as those dedicated to the Chelsea Art Museum, the IVAM, the Museum of Modern Art of Gdansk, in Poland, the National Museum of Art of China in Shanghai, or the Herrerian Patio Museum of Contemporary Spanish Art...

Located in New York, NY
Touched by the influence of Andy Warhol, champion of a young Jean-Michel Basquiat, Rene Ricard served as enfant terrible of the 1980s New York art scene. Here, Ricard traverses visual art, text, and the pleasure of sculptural trompe-l’œil with this printed drawing of melancholy hand-written and typed love poetry, composed with natural earthen shades of antique white and brown. Participating artists famously included: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Levan, Fred Brathwaite, Christo, Francesco Clemente, George Condo, Crash, Futura 2000, Jenny Holzer, John Lennon, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Brice Marden, Robert Morris, Yoko Ono, Lee Quiñones, Robert Rauschenberg, Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Tseng Kwong Chi, and Andy Warhol. _ Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990), a Neo-Pop and Graffiti artist, had a short but prolific career centered on a vision to unite “high art,” urban aesthetics, and public spaces using humorous, irreverent, and poignant works. Born in Pennsylvania, Haring attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh for two years, planning to become a commercial artist. He found this path unsatisfying, and instead chose to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he met fellow artists Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring immersed himself in the culture of the city’s streets and clubs, and, in 1980, began covering the blank billboards on subway station walls with his Subway drawings in chalk. Haring’s bold public art attracted the attention of several galleries, and, by the early 1980s, he was painting Neo-Pop works and large murals full time. In an effort to make his art widely accessible, Haring opened the Pop Shop in 1986 in downtown New York, selling commercial items adorned with his signature, cartoonish imagery. Haring combined graffiti, hip-hop, and urban aesthetics, frequently depicting animals, figures, commercial icons, sexual imagery, and childlike motifs in pieces that were both playful and concerned with social issues. His work became increasingly confrontational following his 1987 diagnosis of AIDS. Haring resolved to work harder than ever in his remaining years, creating pieces with a fervent speed and devoting his art to social action in addition to his personal expression. In 1989, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, whose goal is to promote art programs and public spaces for children, and to raise awareness about AIDS. Haring died on February 16, 1990 in New York at the age of 31. In addition to hundreds of exhibitions held during his lifetime, Haring has been the subject of numerous retrospectives in New York, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Berlin since his death.
