Too Far II
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Too Far II" 2004 is an original mixed media (color monotype and pencil drawing) by noted Swiss artist Francois Burland b.1958. It is hand signed, dated, numbered 1/1 and dedicated in pencil by the artist. The subject size is 7.75 x 10.5, including the pencil drawing is 10.75 x 13 inches, sheet size is 13 x 19.75 inches, framed size is 21 x 28 inches. Custom framed in a wooden black frame, with white matting. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: François Burland (1958) was born in Lausanne (Switzerland). He began drawing in self-taught fashion at the end of his adolescence. He undertook a first trip to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula at the age of twenty. A few years later, he encountered the Tuaregs in the Sahara Desert. Enthused by their nomadic lifestyle, he began returning to the region regularly over some thirty years. During his long stays with the Tuaregs, he shared their daily life, including their dromedaries and witchcraft, but also their 4x4s, mobiles and kalachnikovs. This creator has produced an abundant and varied oeuvre. Depending on each series and on his inspiration of the day, he avails himself of a number of techniques and materials. For his drawings, he prefers to use wrapping paper as a support: he applies pastels, colored pencil and white chalk to very large surfaces. His creations bring to mind shamanic art...

Future III: modernist urban architectural monoprint & collage in gray blue black
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
"Future III" is a Bauhaus-inspired monotype and collage (work on paper) reminiscent of the aesthetic of Le Corbusier. It is part of Bouton’s "Habitat and Urban Matter" series, which is inspired by the straight lines of modernist architecture and hard-edged geometrical forms of the urban environment. Bouton, a French printmaker from Paris who has also lived in London, Myanmar, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Turkey, creates work that responds to her experiences during her travels and the cultures she encountered. Since settling in the Philadelphia area, she has been inspired by the urbanism of the city, whether a sleek, new apartment block, an abandoned warehouse, or a half-demolished home. Her latest works are interpretations of these buildings, with both broad street views and focused details from single structures –- the pattern of the skyline, a patchwork of broken windows, an industrial color palette. She is drawn to the history of the spaces and lives lived within these buildings, as well as their intrinsic beauty of the structures, whether that beauty emerges from design or degradation, or some combination of the two. Signed and dated. Bouton is a French artist living and working in the Philadelphia area whose boundary-pushing printmaking and paper works exhibit influence from living and working in international cities across the globe. Bouton earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking and her MFA in Arts and Textile Design from the prestigious ESSAA Duperré in Paris, France. Since leaving Paris 15 years ago, Bouton has lived and exhibited her work internationally in Paris (France), London (UK), Philadelphia (USA), Rangoon (Burma/Myanmar), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Dakar (Senegal) and Istanbul (Turkey). Aerial IV
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork, titled "Aerial IV" c.1980 is a monotype with chine colle and embossing on heavy paper by noted Canadian artist Janet Jones b.1952. It is hand signed and titled in pencil by the artist. It is numbered “1/1-20”. I believe this indicates the artist did 20 impressions of the monotype, and that no two are alike. There are three levels of paper. The printed part with a plate that measures 8 x 8 inches (9x9 inches the sheet) is on thin Japon paper. It is mounted to another thin pastel colored sheet measuring 12 x 12 inches. This, in turn, is mounted to heavy paper similar to Arches measuring 22.25 x 18 inches It is in very good condition with some faint rippling on the left and right edges, and has never been framed. About the artist: Janet Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1952. She received her BFA in painting and photography from Concordia University - studying painting with Guido Molinari and Yves Gaucher, and photography with the experimental photographer Suzanne Swibold. Janet Jones is currently a Toronto based painter whose work has been exhibited across Canada, in Los Angeles, New York, England, Germany, France and China. Jones has been a visiting artist in France, England, Russia, China, the Netherlands, and Cuba. Jones received her MFA from York University and her PhD from New York University in the area of art theory and criticism. Untitled #1
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Untitled #1" is a colors monotype on Arches paper by Dutch artist Frans Horbach. It is hand signed and dated in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) is 19.65 x 19.65 inches, sheet size is 35.5 x 24.75 inches. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, has never been framed. About the artist: Born in Holland, Dutch artist Frans Horbach first visited New York when he was 17 years old, traveling on a cargo ship from Rotterdam, just as his fellow country man Willem de Kooning had done years before. Two years later he left Holland and emigrated to California. During the years that he lived and worked as a professional artist in America, one of the main sources of artistic influence came from artists belonging to what is now known as the New York school of American lyrical abstract expressionist art - Rothko, Pollock, De Kooning... He was attracted by their ideas, style of work, and more importantly, by their vital energy and uninhibited self-confidence. Horbach's work also was influenced, more subtely perhaps, by his contact with indigeneous Indian people during his journeys in the American South-West and Mexico. These encounters were a rich source of inspiration - they became integral to a philosophical framework which involved the appreciation of physical space in a poetic and artistic sense. In later years, as the result of his long-time interest in oriental art and philosophy, some of his work show a distinct affinity with the aesthetic sensibilities of traditional Japanse...

Monotype
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Monotype" 1991 is an original monotype by renown American glass sculptor Marvin Lipofsky. It is signed, titled and dated in pencil by the artist. The artwork size is 30 x 22.5 inches, framed is 33.75 x 26.25 inches. It is custom framed in the original wooden off white frame. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Glassmaker, sculptor and graphic artist, Marvin Lipofsky, born in 1938, received his B.F.A. degree in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois. He earned his M.S. degree, 1963, and M.F.A., 1964, in sculpture from the University of Madison, Wisconsin. There, he was one of Harvey Littleton's first graduate students working in glass. Littleton had been the first American artist, in the 1960s, to visit Czechoslovakia, famous for its work in glass, where glass sculpture had been made since the 1950s. Marvin Lipofsky would also be an early visitor, observing there. Since that time, the artist has traveled extensively, collaborating with the world's best glass artists. After graduation from Wisconsin, Lipofsky was hired by the University of California, Berkeley, where he introduced the second university glass program in America (Littleton was the first). Lipofsky also established the glass program at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1967, the San Francisco area becoming a center for glass in the 60s and 70s because of his own work and the students produced by his teaching. While Lipofsky may be best known for three-dimensional globe forms, he has indulged himself in the making of glass Pop Art pickles and hamburgers. He has also created multi-colored, irregular flower...

Iain Baxter& "Dislodging Landscape" Conceptual Monoprint Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Landscape with barbecue grill in bright vibrant colors. Iain Baxter& (the artist recently added the ampersand to his name) is recognized as Canada’s pioneering conceptual artist. For over forty years, Baxter& has continually produced works that question the role of art as commodity and as a medium for cultural commentary. Among his many innovations, Baxter& was the first artist to adopt a corporate persona: in 1966, he formed the N.E. Thing Company. NETCO output ranged from conceptual, satirical, vacuum-formed still lives to post-modern appropriations of famous artworks. His recent work includes neon signs, ‘animal preserves’, a grocery cart of ‘GMO’s’ (genetically modified organisms) and installations using obsolete technology.) He is a painter, photographer, sculptor, mixed media artist, installationist, film & video maker, interventionist & performance artist who has been a forerunner of conceptual art in Canada. BAXTER& has been considered the Marshall McLuhan of Visual Arts in Canada. Continuous themes in his work include information technology, landscape, art as commodity, & environmental & ecological concerns. These prominent themes throughout BAXTER&‘s work are often met with wit, parody, satire & word-play. Through his art, teaching, and mentorship, BAXTER& has widely influenced Canadian art, creating new movements such as the Vancouver School of Photo-conceptualism and blurring the lines between private and public through his N.E. Thing Co. among many other impactful projects. He has also directly influenced major Canadian artists, including Stan Douglas, Ian Wallace, Jeff Wall, Roy Arden, Ken Lum...

Iain Baxter& "Correcting Landscape" Conceptual Monoprint Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Landscape with refrigerator in bright vibrant colors. He has also directly influenced major Canadian artists, including Stan Douglas, Ian Wallace, Jeff Wall, Roy Arden, Ken Lum and Rodney Graham. BAXTER& has exhibited throughout Canada and internationally in the United States, China, Korea, Japan, and Europe including at the Guggenheim New York, The National Gallery of Canada & the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris, France, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art, New York & the Tate Modern, London. In 2011, BAXTER&’s work was compiled into a major retrospective IAIN BAXTER&: 1958--‐2011, organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario & The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. His work can be found in collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Vancouver Art Gallery, the F.R.A.C Art Museum in Bretagne, France, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, The Netherlands, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, & the Tate Modern, London. He is a Member of the Royal Canadian Academy. His work was included in the seminal Made of Plastic show that included Abe Ajay...

Contemporary Pattern and Decoration piece, The original movement was championed by the gallery owner Holly Solomon. The P&D movement wanted to revive an interest in minor forms such as patterning which at that point was equated with triviality. The prevailing negative view of decoration was one not generally shared by non-Western cultures, The Pattern and Decoration movement was influenced by sources outside of what was considered to be fine art. Blurring the line between art and design, many P&D works mimic patterns like those on wallpapers, printed fabrics, and quilts. There is a close connection between the Pattern and Decoration movement and the Feminist art movement. The P&D movement arose in opposition to the Minimalist and Conceptualist movements. Mary Grigoriadis, Valerie Jaudon, Joyce Kozloff, Miriam Schapiro, Robert Zakanitch were early proponents of this style. The artist lives and works in New York City.
