Flowers and fruits

Located in Zofingen, AG

This vibrant still life painting showcases an intricate arrangement of flowers and fruit against a warm, textured backdrop. Dominating the scene are lush bouquets of chrysanthemums and daisies in vases, their vivid reds, yellows, and whites contrasting with the soft background tones. The flowers' dynamic brush strokes convey a sense of vitality and movement. In the foreground, a plate with vividly rendered apples takes center stage, their rich hues inviting attention. Surrounding the plate, additional fruits subtly complement the overall composition. The artwork's background features a framed painting, adding depth and complexity to the piece. The interplay of light and shadow, along with the sumptuous color palette, creates a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. This painting uniquely combines elements of luxury and simplicity, capturing the essence of a lively yet serene tabletop setting. In the foreground is a rectangular plane of the table, objects are located on it. On the table are vases with large garden flowers, in the middle, in front of the vases, a plate with apples and a knife. On the yellow wall in the frame at the top center is an illustration of the painting by E. Degas...

Art Deco British symbolist painting 'Triune' by Robert Arthur Wilson

By Robert Arthur Wilson

Located in Petworth, West Sussex

This artwork is a captivating representation of The Trinity, created by the British artist Robert Arthur Wilson. It vividly demonstrates Wilson's profound engagement with avant-garde theories related to colour, music, and emotion, which had a significant impact on his artistic vision. Wilson's exploration of colour abstraction was groundbreaking and played a pivotal role in establishing him as one of the most promising artists of his time. His innovative approach to colour abstraction is evident not only in the portrayal of the sky but also in the overall composition of this piece. Robert Arthur Wilson (British, 1884 – 1979) Triune Tempera on panel Signed ‘R.A. Wilson’ (lower right) and titled on a label on the reverse 29.1/8 x 29.1/8 in. Abstract Expressionist cityscape of Old City of Jerusalem in moody blues and gold. Yitzhak Greenfield, painter, born 1932, Brooklyn, New York His focus is on the heavenly and the terrestrial Jerusalem; on the Hebrew alphabet; and on central themes in Jewish tradition and culture. He deals with the tension between figurative and abstract. Education 1946 Educational Alliance Art School, New York City, with Abba Ostrowsky, Chaim Gross, and Louis Lozowick. 1948 Thomas Jefferson High School, Brooklyn, New York, Art 1953 Drawing and Drawing Wall Murals,Seminar at Givat Haviva with P. Pelzig, Yohanan Simon, and Naftali Bezem. 1960 Printmaking with the artist and printmaker Borin, Venice, Italy 1979-1981 Morris Blackburn Print Workshop, New York City, U.S.A. Teaching Art Kibbutz Gal-On and Gat 1961-1963 Arts, regional school at Mateh-Yehuda Regional school, Mate-Yehuda Anglican school, Jerusalem 1965–70 Bet Ha'am, Popular University Outreach Program, Jerusalem Ruth Youth Wing, Israel Museum, Jerusalem Shira Mushkin: Majestic scenes in blue, gold and indigo, radiating spheres and grand expanses hover above architectural forms and clusters of Hebrew letters, revealing dreamlike realities. These are the creations of the artist Yitzhak Greenfield who works in watercolor and acrylic paints layered with collages of painted papers, discarded book materials, and fragments of his own prints. Applying parts of broken furniture, clock springs, iron locks and keys, the artist forms assemblages that hint at familiar settings, resonating the past. For Brooklyn born, Israeli artist Yitzhak Greenfield, these visions are the essence of the Jerusalem landscape, inspired by the city’s ever-changing magical scenery. For generations, Jerusalem has been a focal point for the Jewish people. It is the center of Jewish life, faith, hope, history, and consciousness. Jerusalem holds a particular significance for Greenfield, who moved to Ein Kerem, Jerusalem over fifty years ago, after living on a kibbutz. Greenfield is a Jerusalem artist, and he remarks: “Living and working in Jerusalem is a special journey for me. My works are visionary landscapes, which are reconstructions of Jerusalem, not always relating to specific sites.” The artist has always been intrigued by the historical and dynamic nature of the city, as he constantly explores his own connection to the traditional and spiritual forms of Judaism. Greenfield’s art is linked to Jewish and Israeli history and symbols, such as the Hebrew letters, Jewish amulets, and the Ten Sephirot (Kabbalah emanations), containing aesthetic qualities of the material and the spiritual. Working in a distinctive modernist method, Greenfield’s artwork lends itself to rich possibilities of expression. The exhibition Yitzhak Greenfield: Exploring Jerusalem comprises three main series from the artist’s career, which span over the course of many years and continue to this day; Jerusalem Visions, Jerusalem Assemblages, and Landscape and Meditation on the Hebrew Letter. These artworks portray timeless dream-landscapes of Jerusalem. The hidden secrets of the city are locked away in assemblage constructions, and prints depicting Hebrew letters illuminate into mystical meanings. The spectator travels along with Greenfield through his creations, exploring Jerusalem and experiencing a spiritual and living Judaism, in which the artist constantly searches for the expression of his cultural and spiritual legacy as he reconstructs Jerusalem. 1966 General Exhibition - Jerusalem Artists' House Artists: Hirszenberg, Samuel Boris Schatz, Lilien, Ephraim Moses, Joseph Budko, Leopold Krakauer, Meir Gur Arie, Jacob Eisenberg, Ben Zvi, Zeev Palombo...

Army Poker

Army Poker

Located in Los Angeles, CA

This work is part of our exhibition - America Coast to Coast: Artists of the 1940s Army Poker, c. 1943, probably tempera on board, signed upper right, 16 x 20 inches, inscribed verso a) “Army Poker / Mervin Honig / 421 W 42 St. N.Y.C.,” b) “Mervin Honig / US Army Air Force – Seymour Johnson Field – Goldsboro, NC / Circa 1943,” and c) “(This painting was done before men was (sic) shipped off to the Mariana Islands (Saipan) The Second World War.” Note: four pencil sketches for this work included Mervin Honig was a New York-based painter and illustrator who is best known for his realistic depictions of everyday life and sports themes. Honig was raised in Brooklyn and recalled almost never being without a paintbox in hand from the time he started elementary school. Honig had a deep reverence for the Old Master painters, Vermeer and Bellini, as well as the Americans Winslow Homer and Thomas Eakins. He initially studied art from 1939 through 1941 with Francis Criss. At the outbreak of World War II, Honig worked as a mechanic for Republic Aviation, but in August 1942, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and was stationed at Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, North Carolina. During the war, Honig began to exhibit nationally, including as part of the Portrait of America exhibitions which originated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and traveled around the country, as well as at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. He painted Army Poker in 1943 while stationed at Johnson Field. In this work, Honig draws inspiration from Paul Cezanne's The Card Players (Metropolitan Museum of Art), with a similar placement of the four figures, but Cezanne's table is replaced with an Army cot, the pipe rack with a soldier's mess kit and the drapery in the right background with a heap of discarded uniforms. Unlike the vibrancy of Cezanne's composition, the limited palette of Honig's work suggests the drabness and monotony of stateside Army life. After being discharged from military service, Honig furthered his studies with Amadee Ozenfant in 1946 and Hans Hoffman from 1947 through 1950. Additional exhibitions included the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Academy of Design, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the Provincetown Art Association, and the National Academies Galleries of the Allied Artists Association. He was represented by the venerable Frank Rehn...

By Italo Orsi

Located in Roma, IT

Le Avventure di Cerbiattino ("The Adventures of the Little Fawn") is an original artwork realized by Sandro Nardini in the 1950s. Tempera, china ink, and pencil on paper. Very good conditions. This artwork includes 24 unbound sheets: 10 numbered and 14 unnumbered sheets. The numeration is written in pencil on the back of each sheet. It is an artist's proof for the illustrated book "The adventures of the Little Fawn" (original Italian title: "Le Avventure di Cerbiattino"). The artworks are lovely for the brilliance and the vividness of the colors: one episode of the story is represented on each sheet. The first sheet is the cover of the book. The main characters of the story are: the butterfly, the frog, the bird, the wolf, the porcupine, the hare, and the fawn. In the center of the composition, "Le Avventure di Cerbiattino Racconto e disegni di Sandro...
