Ken Aptekar Contemporary Conceptual Judaica Art Drawing Go Study Chasidic Rabbis

By Ken Aptekar

Located in Surfside, FL

Ken Aptekar American (b. 1950) Go Know (Study) 1996 Graphite, white pigment, transparency film, and staples on paper Hand signed lower right sheet: 18 x 18 inches frame dimensions: 21 x 21 x 1 3/4 inches, wood frame with acrylic glazing Ken Aptekar is an artist who combines painting with text. He paints new versions of historical paintings and frames, bolting glass with sandblasted words to his painted panels. Aptekar’s work belongs to the tradition of painting, yet he brings to that tradition a recognition that paintings produce meaning only through their interaction with viewers. He investigates the nature of spectatorship. By “recreating” works of art in a painterly but utilitarian manner, Aptekar promotes viewers’ own narratives prompted by the image-text combinations. Born in Detroit, Aptekar received his BFA at the University of Michigan, then moved to Brooklyn to complete an MFA at Pratt Institute. Most recently, his work was featured at the Jewish Museum in Vienna, Austria, and in the Biennale Internationale d’Autun, in Autun, France. A major commissioned solo exhibition, NACHBARN (“NEIGHBORS”), 2016, was on view at the St. Annen Museum in Lübeck, Germany, including paintings with text, silverpoint drawings, and video all based upon medieval altarpieces in the St. Annen Museum’s collection. Previously, his work has been seen in solo exhibitions at the Victoria & Albert Museum in collaboration with the Serpentine Gallery (London), the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Memorial Art Gallery (Rochester, NY), Centro da Cultura Judaica (Sao Paolo, Brazil), Musée Robert Dubois-Corneau (Brunoy, France), the New Museum (New York, NY), Douglas Cooley Gallery at Reed College (Portland, OR), Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State (State College, PA), Cummer Museum (Jacksonville, FL), and the Elaine Jacob Gallery at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI). In 2012 Aptekar’s work was the subject of a survey exhibition, “Ken Aptekar: Look Again,” at the Beard and Weil Galleries, Wheaton College, Massachusetts. He was in the show Words & Music with John Giorno, Cheonae Kim...

Winter Kill Five Paths Large Abstract Mixed Media

By Terence La Noue

Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL

Winter Killed Five Paths, 1983 Mixed Media Abstract, signed and title on revers. No frame needed for this work at the top is attached to plank of wood and ready to be hang, it will be rolled up for shipping. Terence La Noue was born in Hammond, Indiana in 1941. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1964. After going to Berlin as a Fulbright Meister Student at Hochscule fur Bildende Kunste in 1964-65 he went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University. In addition to the Fulbright Foundation fellowship, La Noue has twice received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. He has had extensive teaching experience at Trinity College 1967-72, the City University of New York 1972-85 and at New York University in 1987. He lives between Arizona, Paris, France and Vermont. Terence La Noue, who has created powerful, compelling paintings for the last four decades, is considered one of the outstanding talents of 20th century American abstract art. Layering canvas, fabric, gauze, acrylic paint and cast elements forming a lively melding of many different materials, symbols and colors to create tapestry-like paintings, he conjures up colorfully rich abstractions that reveal a sense of myth, magic and mystery. His extensive world travels serve as inspiration for works that are abstract mixtures of Western and non-Western traditions and histories. India, South America, Morocco, Mexico and Nepal have been favorite destinations. Terence La Noue’s unique approach to painting and printmaking has achieved worldwide recognition. Beginning in Berlin in 1965 he has had over a hundred and thirty acclaimed solo exhibitions in London, Paris, Tehran, Stockholm, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Palm Beach, Dallas, Atlanta, Tucson and Scottsdale. His work is represented in the permanent collections of major museums including: The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of Art, The Corcoran Gallery, The Guggenheim Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York, The Tate Modern in London in Japan, Singapore, France and Australia including the Center for Contemporary Art, Kitakyushu, Japan, the Power Institute of Fine Arts, Sydney, Australia, The Musee d'Art et Archeologie, Paris, France. Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., United States Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York, United States National Gallery of Australia, Sidney, Australia Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts United States Embassy, Beijing, China His work is also included in numerous university and city art museums throughout the US as well as major corporate collections. Terence la Noue worked extensively at Tyler Graphics from 1987 to 1993 and is represented in the National Gallery’s Kenneth Tyler Collection by a large body of work made in 1987 and 1991. La Noue’s work is characterized by an intensive layering process, which was well accommodated by the Tyler workshop. The artist found that through collaboration with Ken Tyler...

The Air Holds Our Names - Abstract Textured Surrealist Landscape Oil Painting

By Reynier Llanes

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Reynnier Llanes’ oil and mixed media paintings invite the viewer into a cinematic world where realism meets allegory. Llanes’ storytelling is layered and poetic, offering moments that reward slow looking as meaning gathers through atmosphere, gesture, and metaphor. • One-of-a-kind original oil and mixed media painting on canvas measuring 57 inches square • Professionally stretched, wired, and ready to hang • Signed by the artist on the front and back • Certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included • Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery • Affordable U.S. and international shipping available Reynier Llanes is a Cuban born contemporary painter recognized for richly detailed narrative works shaped by memory, folklore, and a magical realist sensibility. He trained in Pinar del Río, later moving to Havana before emigrating to the United States, where his practice continued to evolve through sustained attention to craft, symbolism, and storytelling. Across his broader body of work, Llanes often builds dreamlike environments where nature and daily life take on allegorical roles, reflecting on identity, belief, and belonging. He is also known for incorporating Cuban espresso coffee in works on paper, a material choice that deepens the connection between medium, cultural memory, and lived experience, while reinforcing his ongoing interest in how personal history can be carried through image and narrative. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Reynnier Llanes’s original artworks in Los Angeles since 2026, presenting his impressive works to an international collector base around the globe. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a well-curated selection of original artworks beyond the ordinary from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Artplex Gallery is known to provide accurate descriptions, images, reliable services, communication, and delivery. Adrian Heath (1920-1992) Abstract Study III (1975) Acrylic and pencil on paper 22x22cm Heath was born in Burma in 1920 and arrived in England aged five. In 1938 he studied art under Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn and later at the Slade School of Art. While serving in WWII, he was captured and placed in a prisoner-of-war camp in Bavaria. Heath attempted to escape from the camp but was recaptured and placed in solitary confinement; this isolation proved crucial to the development of his artistic style, as he spent much of his time there experimenting with abstract forms. When released from confinement, Heath befriended a fellow prisoner of war: Terry Frost. Together they explored the methods of painting which they had developed during their time in the camps, and following the war both became celebrated artists. We have several Terry Frost pieces available too. In 1949 and 1951, Heath returned to Cornwall. He spent time with artists like Ben Nicholson, Victor Pasmore, and Anthony Hill...
