Double Panel Monumental Pink and Purple Dyed and Painted Stretched Rubber Canvas

By Jack Drummer

Located in Buffalo, NY

This two panel stretched and dyed rubber piece was created by American contemporary artist John Drummer in the early 2000's. This work was featured in the exhibition "Jack Drummer" organized by BT&C Gallery and which coincided with the Burchfield Penney Art Center's exhibition "The Effects of Time". This is currently the only work available for acquisition. The Burchfield Penney exhibition that featured these rare pieces was voted one of the best 10 exhibitions that year in ArtForum's 2016 Top Ten by Matthew Higgs, who would later curate an exhibition of Drummers work for White Columns gallery that was reviewed by Art in America in 2017. John E. (aka “Jack”) Drummer (1935-2013) was an itinerant and mercurial figure. Self-taught as an artist, his earliest works from the late 1950s and early 1960s were included in several key exhibitions in Buffalo and New York City, including the first of Allan Kaprow’s legendary ‘New Forms, New Media’ exhibitions that he curated for Martha Jackson’s gallery in 1960. Drummer’s 1962 solo exhibition at the Gordon Gallery, New York received a rapturous review from critic Brian O’Doherty in The New York Times, who praised Drummer for his ability to “make something out of nothing”, describing his work from this time as “screens for the imagination,” a notion that could equally be applied to his later works on view at White Columns in a 2017 solo exhibition. Despite this early success, Drummer would soon leave New York City, returning initially to Buffalo, before moving to New Orleans and then California, before eventually settling in Hawaii. Very little of Drummer’s early work has survived, including almost none of the 300-odd, often large-scale, styrofoam-based sculptures he produced in Hawaii. On returning to his home-town of Buffalo in the early 1980s, Drummer would embark on an extraordinary body of work that would preoccupy him for the next two decades. Drummer’s late work is clearly related to, and expands upon, the histories of minimal, post-minimal and process-orientated art. His approach is empathetic with that of the Italian Arte Povera artists, sharing their interest and investment in ‘poor’ and quotidian materials. Working almost exclusively with ‘found’ materials, and specifically materials that had previously been employed and subsequently discarded in industrial and manufacturing processes, Drummer’s work of the 1980s-early 2000s was largely overlooked and unexhibited during his lifetime. Drummer’s late works employ the rubber ‘blankets’ – used in offset printing to remove excess ink during the printing process – as supports. These ‘ready-made’ supports often revealed aspects of their ‘histories’: their surfaces are typically marked with ghostly images and texts resulting from the printing process. Drummer would then work directly onto and into these ‘pre-prepared’ supports. Drummer’s late works often incorporate impressions taken directly from the surfaces of walls, floors, and fencing, etc. – ‘images’ created by laying the rubber sheets face down onto a desired surface, and then applying pressure from the back of the sheet to create a subsequent negative impression or image of that surface, likely a physically demanding process, akin to making a ‘brass rubbing...

This one includes Albert Einstein amongst other drawing. Tom Carapic (born 1939), full name Tomislav Sava Čarapić, is an artist who specialises in found object artwork. He also does street art. A prominent Outsider Artist he was a featured artist in the American Visionary Art Museum's End is Near Exhibit. His work was also featured in the exhibition catalog. His work has been sold at Slotin Folk Art. Carapic was born in Velisevac, Serbia (then Kingdom of Yugoslavia). He was educated at a military school in Herzegovina in the 1950s, and served as a sergeant in the Yugoslav People's Army. Afterwards he was denied a college education, possibly because he was not a member of the Communist Party, illegally crossed into Italy in 1961, and, from there, emigrated to the United States. In 1965, he began attending classes at the New York Art Students League, but dropped out soon afterwards, eventually attending the Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture. He was unable, however, to find steady beauty parlor employment, and worked in menial labor while attending classes in Spanish Education at Manhattan Community College. Due to a problem with accreditation, he was forced to switch to classes in the field of studio art. There he experienced hallucinatory visions that explained his repeated failures to obtain a degree. In the late 1970s, Carapic began experiencing more hallucinatory visions; claiming that his degree problems were caused when "the evil marriage bureau massed the troops" against his college and proceeded with "an Air force bombardment" of the school. After receiving other visitations, he began making and showing his art. Most of his art is centered on found objects, most famously computer keyboards, especially those by IBM. Most of his art consists of these objects, marked with black Sharpie markers, and with green thumbprints and handprints along the objects. His most famous exhibit in New York City is "Big Bang Theory," a doomsday warnings painted on computer keyboards and shoes and construction debris. Bears similarity to the Art Brut movement made famous by Jean Dubuffet. He was inluded in The End is Near! an exhibit which included an unprecedented group of noted thinkers, from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Stephen Jay Gould to Reverend Howard Finster and Apocalypse culture expert ,Adam Parfrey, visionary artists brought together by curator, Roger Manley, for an amazing exhibition at the American Visionary Art Museum, the world’s largest ever mounted on the subjects of Apocalypse, Millennium, and Utopia. The End is Near! featuredwork from the following visionary artists amongst others: William Adkins Z.B. Armstrong Bill Bruley Frank Bruno Harry Leroy Brunson Tom Carapic Pierre Carbonel Howard Finster Tim Fowler Mary Mac Franklin Victor Joseph Gatto Robert Gie Patrick Gimel Hugo Hempel Oskar Herzberg Vojislav Jakic Norbert Kox Charles Keeling Lassiter...

His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, Mississippi. Ceroli is one of the most influential artists of the Italian post-war period. Ceroli moved to Rome at the age of ten where he later graduated from 'Accademia delle Belle Arti'. At the Art Institute he worked under the guidance of Leoncillo Leonardi, Pericle Fazzini and Ettore Colla, where he experimented with the use of ceramic. In 1958, he first exhibited these works at the Premium Spoleto. In the same year Ceroli held his first solo exhibition at Galleria San Sebastianello of Rome. During 1959 he began to experiment with new materials, particularly with raw wood, such as Russian pinewood. He used these materials to create silhouetted shapes in his furniture and objects that related simplistically to the surrounding space. In the 1960's Ceroli took part in exhibitions related to the "Arte de Povera" group. He had also been involved as screenplay director collaborating with "II Teatro Stabile" in Turin and with "La Scala" In Milan. He was part of the generation of Italian post war artists that included Aligliero Boetti, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Pino Pascali, Piero Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mimmo Rotella, Emilio Vedova. Artist Comments
"This painting was inspired by birds taking flight,” says artist Linda Shaffer. “I love hummingbirds and live in Las Vegas, Nevada where they flourish. They zip all around my back yard and are beautiful to behold.” Linda captures the essence of the creature into a vibrant multi-layered mixed media. She utilized red, turquoise, and blue with hand-printed paper, original images, and washi papers resulting in a dynamic abstract piece.

About the Artist
Artist Linda Shaffer creates intricately layered abstract collages based on her worldly travels. "My defining art moment was when I was eleven years old and I got to visit Van Briggle Pottery in Colorado Springs," says Linda. "I watched mesmerized as the potter working on the wheel created a beautiful piece of art as if by magic from a lump of brown wet mud. I knew someday I would create those beautiful pieces of magic." After high school, Linda became a registered nurse. On her days off, she made pottery at a local studio. As her nursing career progressed – from labor and delivery to ICU and trauma, and then college nursing – she returned to school for her bachelor’s in business administration. Every elective she chose was an art class, and she built her own clay studio. Eventually, Linda earned her master’s in public health and became a tenured college professor. She was delighted that the job allowed her to take art classes every semester, where she discovered painting and printmaking. Linda retired early from teaching and wanted to learn more about fine jewelry, so she attended the Gemological Institute of America. Since 2011, she has been working full-time as a painter and jeweler. When Linda's not making art, she enjoys golfing with a close circle of friends. She's made two hole-in-ones and plans for more.

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box
Music Sonata In A Shadow Box

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box

By Erik J. Erikson

Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box 2023 Mixed Media, artist signed, front Plexiglas. This sculpture is perfect for the wall or a coffee table. This 3D music diorama found its home in a drawer from an antique Tansu Chest. Some of the 3D elements were made by Erikson. Antique materials achieve a vintage and interesting aesthetic. The depth of the case creates a stage like atmosphere as sort of a visual guide for the viewers eye. The overlapping and juxtaposition of the elements creates a intriguing and appealing composition. Very often Erikson art echoes and fuses antiquity and modernity. Erikson’s central imagery concerns itself with intrigue and a sense of surprise. His body of work is often dispersed with visual, tactile and intellectual delights that lead the viewer on their own form of discovery. Erikson’s awareness of the aesthetic in sending things back in time is a result of studying the Renaissance and other periods of art history. This infusion of historical art references has had a vital effect on his body of work. Heavily influenced by the well known New York art dealer Allan Stone (who represented, among other giants, Joseph Cornell, and Willem de Kooning, Erikson has never departed from Stone’s insistence that “surprise” should remain with a piece of art no matter how long it is viewed. The discipline of archeology decodes messages of the past to find meanings of objects and classify them. This observation takes the viewer on a deeper understanding of the interplay. As a curator of his own “museum cases” in other work, Erikson’s personal vocabulary evokes images of extreme preciousness combined in miniature settings. Despite its minute scale his work commands presence and a sense of vastness. In his body of work, Erikson attempts to introduce sculpture to painting as a way of integrating the second and third dimensions.
