"This is the first, perhaps last Findus, entered into the history of art," writes Vespignani about his only "dead and frozen" still life. In his humorous writing, he described how, in the 1960s, he wanted to paint an "alive, remembering the sea, wriggling like a freshly caught fish" nature, to distract himself from his "murderous dead". But the result was quite different, contrary to his intentions. Because of his being a "realistic painter, or rather obsessed nerista", portraying the alive nature meant seeing and reproducing the gradual decay of the small group: "from the stage of cheerful youth (...) to the cadaverous dissolution." The Director of the Italian Encyclopedia, Giovanni Gentile, writes to Ugo Ojetti, one of the institute members, to assure the Countess Pecci-Blunt that Villa Marlia will be mentioned under the entry "Villa" in the encyclopedia. The Ugo Ojetti's business card is attached and reports Ojetti's autograph notes of greetings. Suggesting theatrical mood, theatrical staging, stage, costume ideas and stage colors, intellectual references (Orson Welles and Rex Whistler), the Italian dramaturg asks the collaboration of the yung and talented costume designer, Maria De Matteis. Under the supervision of Luchino Visconti, Gerardo Guerrieri signs the direction of Vita col padre, by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse (premiered on January 28, 1947, Teatro Eliseo, Rome).
