Foote was born on June 29, 1874 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and died on January 27, 1965, in Sarasota, Florida. He was in Old Lyme, 1901-65; and in Cos Cob, 1903.
Will Howe Foote was one of the earliest artists at Old Lyme and one who adopted the town as home. He first went there the summer of 1901 with his uncle, William H. Howe, a painter of cattle, who had been told about the beauties of the countryside by Henry Ward Ranger. Foote had himself heard of Old Lyme when he had met Clark Voorhees in France. He and his uncle were both from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Foote's father was an executive in the furniture industry that made the city famous. Encouraged to be an artist by his father, he began his professional training at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1894. He became friends there with a fellow Michigan student, Frederick Frieseke, who would study with him again at the Art Students League in New York, where Foote worked in 1895-96 under H. Siddons Mowbray and Kenyon Cox.
In 1897 he and Frieseke went to the Academic Julian in Paris, where Foote studied under Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. He was at Julian's until 1900, except for an Italian trip, summers at Laren, Holland, or Etaples, France, and a short period at Whistler's school in Paris. He exhibited twice at the Old Salon, and when he returned to the United States in 1900, he had a one-man exhibition in his hometown.
Will Howe Foote's paintings were well received on his return from abroad. He exhibited frequently at the National Academy of Design and became an associate member in 1910. His awards included a bronze medal at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904 and a silver medal at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.
Once he visited Old Lyme, Foote returned every summer. In 1902 he was hired as assistant to Frank DuMond at the Lyme Summer School of Art, which was sponsored by the Art Students League of New York. Sometime in 1903 he also taught a session in Cos Cob. After 1906, when the League moved its Lyme classes to Woodstock, New York, Foote continued in Old Lyme as a private instructor.
In 1907 he was married to Helen Kirtland Freeman, whom he had met a year or two earlier when she had come to the Lyme art colony as a student of Henry Rankin Poore. Fellow artist William Chadwick was best man at the wedding. The Footes began building a house on Sill Lane in Old Lyme and upon its completion in 1909 spent every spring, summer and fall there, where Foote devoted full time to painting. The Gregory Smiths, old friends from Grand Rapids, arrived in Old Lyme in 1910 and became neighbors. Foote's early works in Connecticut, such as A Summer's Night reflect the artist's interest in soft, atmospheric scenes dominated by a single, overriding tone. Ljubomir Milinkov depicts a fantasy like setting using bold colors, and carefully planned out brushstrokes. The figures and inanimate objects that fill the composition are out of proportion, bi-dimensional, and primitive, cartoonist in terms of style. In fact this painting is iconic of Milinkov's Naif style.
His work was sold by Wally Findlay Galleries in New York and Palm Beach and he has designed silk scarves for Hermes.

Milinkov enters the world of art. He begins to distill his own style.
Good life and beautiful models on the Place du Tertre in Montmartre fill and inspire him. In 1967 he went on an adventure to the USA. For 6 months in 1968 he crossed America from New York to San Francisco aboard his own Cadillac hearse, bought for this trip. It's the full hippie period, he shaves his head in contrast to all the bearded people around him. Back in New York in 1969, he exhibited at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair with 60 artists, five hundred thousand visitors. Sponsored by the organizers to register for 2 years at the New York School of Fine Arts, he declines this generous offer to preserve his freedom and explore his own fauvist mode of expression. Proud to be a graduate of the Fine Arts Schools of “Nulle part” and “Every where”.
In 1972 he opened his first solo exhibition at the Masseur Museum of Art, Monroe, Louisiana. In 1973 he joined the Wally Findlay International Gallery, with which he worked exclusively for 16 years, exhibiting in New York, Chicago, Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, Paris. He was included in the show "One of a Kind" along with Artists: Camille Bombois, Orville Bulman, Henri Maik, Gustavo Novoa and Annette Ollivary.
His tapestry “Noah's Ark” was purchased by the royal family of Saudi Arabia. In 1974 he returned to France and settled between Cannes and Paris. His collaboration with French design house legend Hermes began in 1982: creation of the first Carré “Jardin Enchanté”, followed in 1998 by Gavroches scarves “La Cavale Joyeuse” and “Les Ailes pleines de Joie” and in 2013 the Carré “Bateau Flowery”. It is the “Enchanted Garden” which will have had the honor in 1983 of being the emblem of Hermès' participation in the 150th anniversary of Central Park in New York, where he will be the guest of honor. José María Tuser Vázquez was a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1919. He studied at the Barcelona School of Arts and Crafts and began exhibiting in the 1940s. He collaborated with the magazine El Ruedo, creating numerous illustrations and covers, and designed collectible postcards for Editorial Artigas. Paracentese de L'homme C Post-Minimalist Original Art Monumental Museum Piece
by Peruvian artist Emilio Rodriquez-Larrain (Peruvian, 1928-2015). His work was featured at MOMA as part of their permanent collection and was exhibited as part of Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller Collection exhibit in 1969. The artists is significant and works of this quality are in the Metropolitan Museum, auction high is $25,000.
Stunning post-minimalist earth toned abstract with organic forms titled "Paracentese de L'homme C" (Paracenthesis of the man C) by Peruvian artist Emilio Rodriquez-Larrain (Peruvian, 1928-2015), 1964. This was entered into the XXXII 1964 Venice Biennale, arguably one of the most prestigious art events.
Signed on verso and entry label for XXXII 1964 Venice Biennale, and Staempfli Gallery label attached to verso.
Condition: Very good: professionally cleaned, structurally sound with no issues beyond normal wear with age.

Emilio Rodríguez Larraín was a Peruvian postwar and contemporary painter and sculptor who was born in 1928. He was trained at the Lima School of Engineers (currently the National University of Engineering) from 1945 to 1949. This is how he entered art and was able to learn tools and techniques that would help him in his future works. In the 1950s he ventured into painting under the influence of the French architect and abstract art painter Jean Dewasne, thus developing a painting style based on the abstract and the geometric until his trip to Europe where he migrated to the style of modernist informalism. and made paintings that alluded to the cultures of ancient Peru. His work demonstrates versatile artwork of horizontal geometric constructions, expressive paintings and architectural interventions categorized as post minimalism. Received a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation award for his art.

His work was featured at MOMA as part of their permanent collection and was exhibited as part of Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller Collection exhibit in 1969. key galleries and museums, including the Revolver Galeria, Lima and the Galeria Lucia de la Puente. His work has also been exhibited in Lima, Madrid, Florence, Venice, Milan, Bergamo, Frankfurt, Berlin, Copenhagen, Mexico City, and Paris. In 2016, the Lima Art Museum presented a retrospective exhibit of his paintings and sculptures, calling Rodriquez Larraine "An important avant-garde sculptor, architect and painter who knew how to adapt to the artistic changes of the time and play a very important role in the visual arts of Peru."

"Talk story about Emilio Rodriguez-Larrain, a Peruvian painter, who currently has 46 paintings on display at the Staempfli Gallery. A photograph of Emilio, distributed by the gallery, showed a great resemblance to Zero Mostel. He doesn't look like Mostel at all. The picture was taken in Paris last May, when he had the mumps. He was born in Lima in 1928, the son of an industrialist. His father's family came to Peru in the 17th century. Mr. Staempfli met Emilio in Llansa, Spain, last summer. Gordon Washburn, the director of fine arts at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, who had shown him last year, told Staempfli to look up Emilio, because he knew a tailor in Llansa who would make you a corduroy suit...
