Her love for nature and exploring the patterns and relationships she finds within started early. “I’ve been forever fascinated with color and the magical interplay of light”. “Blessed to have a teacher Mum who fostered regular creative time during our nomadic stint, my childhood was largely spent creating, especially outdoors”. Never without a pen, sketchbook or scraps of paper, her natural ability to create in layers instinctively started in these early years. Although her work continues to evolve, she consistently creates works that are rich in layers, resulting in pieces that are optimistic, luminous and full of stories from her colorful life. Her signature work is abundant with color and texture, resulting in a transparent quality of her works. Adaptable to any palette, Antoinette has produced works from a diversity of spectrums and mediums – sun-soaked, muted and ethereal, vibrant, as well as monochromatic with accents of gold. Her themes include abstract and metaphysical interpretations of fossicking in rock pools, exploring the rolling hills of the countryside both here and abroad, the rock formations of the Australian outback and the magical light of a European summer to name just a few. Her dream and longing to become an artist became a reality after starting her own family and farewelling a corporate life in the pharmaceutical industry, with her debut solo exhibition in 2014. Six years on, Antoinette has fast become a firm favorite amongst interior designers, stylists and home decorators alike, having been represented by fenton&fenton, Thom Gallery and Trit House (formally Click On Furniture) to name just a few. Her original “ref-u-gee” series of forced-migration–themed artwork was shown in a solo exhibition from October, 2022 through January, 2023 at the Brooklyn College library gallery in collaboration with the Valentine Museum of Art (VMoA.) Accompanying the show, a limited-edition monograph with over 180 images of passport sized paintings, four 8 foot tall works on panels, and a foreword by Phyllis Braff. The book was printed in 2023 by SIZ Industria Grafica, Verona, Italy. Roma. Born in a predominantly Jewish suburb of Baltimore, Maryland, Audrey was always drawn to art. Her parents had an innate sense of style. Her father's side of the family were immigrant merchants. They owned what was called, in those days, a junior department store. Audrey’s father would arrange creative window displays. And he was a snappy dresser, looking surprisingly elegant in his patterned or pastel sports jackets. Audrey’s mother, on the other hand, came from a more rural upbringing. Although her maternal grandmother was from Eastern Europe, her maternal grandfather was born in the USA. “Mr. Jew Arthur,” as he was referred to by locals, owned a tavern in a predominantly African-American community, Fairfield, Maryland. Not only did he sell spirits, he definitely partook of them, as well. While still a teenager, Audrey’s mother, Rose Gussie, changed her name to Joyce and headed to Atlanta, Georgia, and later to New York City to be a cosmetician and hosiery model. She also had an impeccable sense of style. And in her picture albums, beside the photographs, were pages upon pages of charming ink drawings of stylish ladies. Of her own formative years, Audrey expresses, “I'm forever grateful that when I was a child, my mother indulged me with regular outings to the library where I emerged with armloads of books, and weekly visits to the Baltimore Museum of Art. There I would pass the gorgeous bust of Queen Nefertiti and the scary mummies on the way to my art lessons. There isn't a single moment of my conscious life when I didn't think of myself as an artist.” Audrey also studied with a local artist, “Miss Mary,” who soon asked Audrey to become a teaching assistant, instructing other students how to observe shapes and tonalities, while faithfully drawing charcoal drawings of classical plaster casts...

A writer, scholar, teacher and art historian, K G Subramanyan was prolific in his art, spanning the spectrum of mediums from painting to pottery, weaving, and glass painting. He believed in the value of Indian traditions and incorporated folklore, myth and local techniques and stories into his work. Critic Geeta Kapur has stated that Subramanyan was deeply influenced by popular, modern, classical and indigenous traditions. No matter what the medium, be it handmade paper or acrylic sheet, his artistic practice has integrated fluid traditions so as to create a new lingua franca. The strokes that shape the faces and the little blobs, the vertical and horizontal drama all become like a choreographed symbolism that has a sense of play in line and length.
