Affresco di Aranci - Orange Trees

Affresco di Aranci - Orange Trees

By Fidel Santos

Located in Brooklyn, NY

This photograph captures the timeless beauty of an aged 18th-century Italian fresco painting. The artwork features potted orange trees, their vibrant green foliage and citrus fruits providing a striking contrast. Set against the backdrop of an expansive Italian countryside, the landscape unfolds with rolling hills and distant vistas. The significance of the orange trees in the fresco is deeply rooted in the historical context of 18th-century Italy. During this period, the cultivation of citrus fruits, including oranges, became a symbol of prosperity and luxury. Italy, with its favorable climate, was a prime location for cultivating oranges, and their presence in frescoes often represented affluence, abundance, and the beauty of the Italian landscape. By Christine Nguyen

Located in Los Angeles, CA

This is a series of five original photo based drawing and painting created on layered mylar as a negative to create the glowing images. The final piece is printed onto archival pigment paper. - Series of 5 original images - Edition of 3 - Signed and numbered by artist - Image dimensions 24" (h) x 19.8" (l); paper size: 30" (h) x 20"(l) - Unframed print - framing available upon request This technique was used to create an art exhibit installed at Los Angeles' Hammer Museum. Christine Nguyen is a Los Angeles based artist. She received her B.F.A from California State University, Long Beach and M.F.A from University of California, Irvine. As an artist, she is inspired by literature, science, nature, astronomy, geology, marine biology. The layering of works, creating depth, process and nature are important elements of her work . For example, salt crystallization has been used on found objects and encrusted on photo based works on paper. The salt crystallization process is similar to preserving some objects, while disintegrating others with time. By incorporating salt crystals onto the photo based paintings, the image presents a mystical otherworldly feel, capturing and refracting light and the slippage of time. Using photography’s processes as a point of departure, Christine Nguyen’s pioneering spirit led her to begin manipulating negatives and onward–creating her own by cutting, layering, and adding on. Nguyen’s subsequent explorations embrace drawing...

Marcaccio was born to a native Argentine mother and Italian father in Rosario de Santa Fe where he later attended the University of Philosophy. In 1985, at age 22, he moved to New York City, where he continues to live and work. He has exhibited widely throughout theUnited States, Europe and South America. In 2004, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein organized a retrospective of his work, the same year that a solo exhibition was mounted at the Miami Art Museum. He regularly exhibits with galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, Cologne and Barcelona. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including; the 44th Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC in 1995, Summer Projects at PS1 Contemporary Art Center, New York in 2002, and Documenta 11, Kassel, Germany in 2002. His multidisciplinary collaborations include projects with the architect Greg Lynn that resulted in an exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio in 2001 and projects with composer Claudio Baroni creating animated operas and a 2005 scored, paintball performance at Weston Hall in Toronto, Canada. Marcaccio’s work investigates whether the traditional medium of painting can survive in the digital age. He has used printmaking transfer techniques to make paintings and became well known in the 1990s for his manipulations of the conventions of painting. More recently, he has relied upon digital and industrial techniques to infuse his painting process with spatial and temporal concerns. The results are environmental paintings, animations, and “Paintants” that combine digitally manipulated imagery, sculptural form, and three dimensionally painted surfaces. On September 10, 2011 Marcaccio received the "Bernhard Heiliger Award for Sculpture 2011" from the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. Bernhard Heiliger Award for Sculpture. Edyta Grzyb (born 1984)living in Poland The preferred motif of her work is people; Strictly speaking, she is interested in their emotions, expressing them through contrasting colors, and occasionally blurring the lines between reality and fiction. She is of the opinion that painting lives through vivid colours, stimulating esthetic feelings and emotions in the observer. Through the combination of cool tones and intensive neon colours, she transports her audience into a world of fantasy. Used technique: Acrylics on canvas in Pop Art- Style. Edyta has been painting since 2013 and has specialized in acrylic painting. Many of her works are already in private collections. Since 2015, she has been increasingly involved in group exhibitions in Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw and exhibited at the Art Fairs in New York and Hong Kong. Tessuto Veneziano (c-5/10) contemporary bstract etching and chine colle print

By Ann Aspinwall

Located in New York, NY

Printmaker Ann Aspinwall made this etching in 1999, while living in Venice. During those years she did several etchings that adhered to a certain principle. She drew a freehand line, as straight as possible; and beneath that line drew another, following as closely as possible the one above. Each successive line followed the line directly above, imitating all the curves and shakes. These imperfections, or deviations from the original line, became more and more prominent, each line being an interpretation of what came before it. Around that time, Aspinwall discovered the writing of John Dewey on the subject of rhythm in his Art as Experience (1934): Rhythm, writes Dewey, is an “ordered variation of changes.” There is no rhythm “when there is a uniformly even flow, with no variations of intensity or speed,” when “variations of pulse and rest do not occur.” “Variations of intensity are relative to the subject matter directly experienced. Each beat, in differentiating a part within the whole, adds to the force of what went before while creating a suspense that is a demand for something to come. It is not a variation in a single feature but a modulation of the entire pervasive and unifying qualitative substratum.” Ten years later Aspinwall returned to this plate. Looking at it again after a long time she perceived the strong influence of Venice; the texture calls to mind water and fabric. The artist was unable to decide on one color for an edition, so after printing many color proofs, she chose ten combinations of colored lines on colored Japanese papers. The prints evoke the light and surfaces of Venice. The title of the series, Tessuto Veneziano, means Venetian textile...
