An authentic silver "drachm" coin from Ephesus 500-420 BC is spectacularly set in this signature Steven Battelle designed ancient-inspired handmade flat wire spirals hammered shield setting accented by 5 sparkling 1.8mm VS1 diamonds. This is an early archaic coin created in the times when the fabricators of coins hadn't realized that images could be placed on both sides, hence the simple 4 part square design on the reverse of the coin. Ephesus was an ancient Greek colony established in what is now the western coast of Turkey. It was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. According to the ancient writer Philostratus, when the Athenians first came to colonize Ephesus, they were led by the Muses, who took the shape of bees. The bee and the deer were also sacred to the Greek Goddess Artemis, the patron Goddess of Ephesus. The 2 Greek letters, Epsilon and Phi, on either side of the bee, are an abbreviation for Ephesus. Please note size relative to the dime! This is not a large pendant. It is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. Very High Grade ancient Ephesus Bee!
