The chrysoberyl is a little understood gemstone. Among one of the most brilliant gems, it has such a high degree of fire (or refractive index) that it almost rivals that of diamonds.

Dating to the late 1700's they are a product of Portugal. Some 230 years ago, the Chrysoberyl stones crossed the Atlantic from the portuguese held mines in Brazil.
