Initialed lower right, 'DJ' and dated 1957. Titled, 'Look Homeward, Angel' and 'Eugene Grant, Anthony Perkins'. Inscribed with costume designer notes and bearing costumer's fabric swatches. Costumes for this production were undertaken by Motley Design Group (Margaret Harris, Audrey Sophia Harris and Elizabeth Montgomery). Premiering on November 28, 1957 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway, 'Look Homeward, Angel' ran for a total of 564 performances, closing on April 4, 1959. Directed by George Roy Hill, written by Ketti Frings, and based on Thomas Wolfe's 1929 largely autobiographical novel of the same title, the cast starred Jo Van Fleet and Anthony Perkins. Hand-coloured portrait of a human larvae bursting out of their cocoon, immobilised in marble. Representative of a safe and isolating space, the cocoon is both a cage and a shelter. This tale is a​ study of transformation, of breaking apart and coming back together as the larvae emerges from the silken threads. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Currently unframed, but options are available. Artist Biography: Born in New Orleans, Robert Benjamin Stiles (Benji) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who lives and works in Houston. He holds a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, with a major in Art History and a minor in Studio Arts, and is currently an MFA candidate at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art). His work ranges from non-representational painting focusing on diverse mark-making and color theory to conceptual sculpture and assemblage using historical and found objects.
