An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English cast sterling silver three piece condiment set in the form of squirrels; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection This exceptional and rare antique Victorian English cast sterling silver condiment set consists of a mustard pot and a pair of peppers. The components of this magnificent set have been realistically modelled in the form of squirrels eating nuts. Each substantial piece is ornamented with details reproducing the squirrel's fur and anatomical features. The fine mustard pot is fitted the original hallmarked flush hinged cover, incorporating the rodent's arms and head, and retains the original gilding to the interior; the flush hinge and gilding indicates the high quality of the piece. The decoration to each squirrel pepper incorporates an array of pierced 'pepper' holes to the upper portion. The underside of each pepperette is fitted with a hinged hallmarked push fit cover. The base of each piece bears the retailer's mark 'Jones 41 St James's St & 23 B Des Capucine, Paris'. The magnificent condiment set will have been crafted in the same year, but due to the hallmarking system the mustard pot is struck with the date letter 'C' and the pepperettes bear the date letter 'D'. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English sterling silver toast rack with equestrian influence; an addition to our dining silverware collection. This exceptional and rare antique silver toast rack has an oval-shaped form. This desirable and collectable Victorian silver toast rack is comprised of six sterling silver spurs, creating four compartments. Each arched compartment is conjoined via the button to the lower portion of the heelband with hallmarked chain structured links. The four vertical and two horizontal stirrups each bears a curvilinear shank and functional rowel. The central frame supports the horizontal spurs and incorporates an oval shaped carrying handle modelled in form of a stirrup, bearing a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion rampant to the lower portion. The plain hallmarked base bears the registration number 'Rd 250691' to the underside, in addition to the full hallmarks. Julius Herz (1819-1911) founded a jewelry store in the lower Webergasse in 1843 and held the title of jeweler and goldsmith from 1854. His assortment ranged from household items such as sugar bowls and sauce boats to precious tiaras and fine jewelry. In 1886/87, he handed over the management of the company to his sons Adolf and Salomon Herz, who were appointed court jewelers shortly afterwards. Under the management of Bruno Netter, son-in-law of Adolf Herz, who had run the business since the late 1920s, the company merged with Joseph Herz Heimerdinger, another traditional Jewish company, and relocated to Wilhelmstraße 38, where Heimerdinger's business premises had been located since 1913. In 1938, the company still advertised under the name "Netter, Herz und Heimerdinger GmbH, Juweliere" before the business was looted and completely destroyed during the Reichspogromnacht on November 9/10, 1938. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain cylindrical form. The body of the mustard pot is embellished with pierced interlacing scrolling leaf designs. The upper and lower rim of this sterling mustard pot is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. This fine mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged domed cover surmounted with an impressive interlacing tri-lobed thumbpiece. This antique piece is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with a plain scrolling thumbpiece. The mustard pot retains the original removable blue glass liner. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and part hallmarks to the interior of cover are all very clear; the maker's mark to the interior of the cover have wear in keeping with age.
