This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tea caddy has an oval form.
The surface of the tea caddy is encompassed with bright cut engraved fabric swag designs and floral festoons, suspended from impressive spiralling foliate anchor-points accented with pensile bud designs.
Each spiralling motif flanks a shield shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'WM' and surmounted with a ribbon style bow.
The upper and lower portions of the body are encompassed with engraved bands of chevron style decoration, in addition to an applied bead decorated border.

""R. WALLACE & SONS MFG CO - Wallingford CT - The founder of the firm was Robert Wallace who, after his apprenticeship to Captain William Mix, began in 1833 his own manufacture of Britannia (a pewter alloy) spoons. In 1834 Wallace started the manufacture of spoons in German silver, supplying his production to Hall, Elton & Co until 1849.
In 1849 Wallace entered in partnership with J.B. Pomeroy manufacturing German silver spoons on contract for Fred R. Curtis & Co of Hartford and Britannia spoons for Hall, Elton & Co and Edgar Atwater of Wallingford.
In 1855 was formed the R. Wallace & Co in partnership with Samuel Simpson, H.C. Wilcox, W.W. Lyman and Isaac C. Lewis (partners in the Meriden Britannia Co).
In 1865 a new contract was made and the firm was organised under the name of Wallace, Simpson & Co.
Robert Wallace took in 1870 the entire control of the firm and the corporate name changed again to R.Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. in partnership with his sons Robert B. and William J. and his son-in-law W.J. Leavenworth.
In 1875 was founded the Wallace Brothers, a co-partnership of Robert Wallace, his sons Robert B., William J., Henry L., George H., Frank A. and his sons-in-law W.J. Leavenworth and D.E. Morris. The firm manufactured silverplate flatware on a base of cast steel and silverplated holloware...

This magnificent antique George III sterling silver wine cooler has a circular rounded form onto a shaped circular spreading foot.
The surface of the cooler is embellished with exceptional chased floral and scrolling foliate decoration, all on a matte background.
The decoration to the body incorporates a large scroll bordered cartouche to either side, each ornamented with a contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting firstly a chevron charged with three lions passant guardant, secondly in chief three cross-crosslet and to the base a lion passant.
This antique wine cooler is fitted with an exceptional pair of cast silver handles realistically modelled in the form of an eagle with raised wings, perched on a large scrolling leaf design.
This impressive cooler is supported by a cast circular shaped spreading foot embellished with further floral and foliate decoration, accented with a large scrolling border to the rim.
This exceptional Georgian wine cooler retains the original, hallmarked detachable liner and push fit cover.
