Rare porcelain soup service by Meissen in Biedermeier style; the set consists of 12 cups with two handles and saucer; the various pieces are made of fine white hard porcelain hand-painted with the decoration "Pink Roses" enriched on all items with sumptuous decorations in relief not painted. Unlike the simple and quite common "Pink Roses", this model is very rare, prestigious, and sought after, therefore even more expensive; in fact, the objects with this relief decoration, much more particular and detailed than others, were fired three times, while those with only the "Pink Roses" decoration only twice. Moreover, the execution of this ornamental motif with delicate and graceful flowers was entrusted only to the most experienced and skilled painters, those in possession of the prestigious diploma obtained at the "School of Drawing of Meissen" established since 1764. The edges of the cups and saucers are scalloped and finished in pure gold as are the handles. All pieces bear the original Meissen trademark (two crossed swords) and from the enclosed list it can be stated with certainty that our service was produced between 1934 and 1944; moreover, on the objects the model is handwritten (61/106), this wording makes the artifacts even more precious and appreciated as they preserve all the characteristics of the author's calligraphy. Meissen porcelain was created in the castle of Albrechtsburg, in Meissen, a small town in Saxony near Dresden, in 1710, at the behest of Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), Prince-Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, who wanted to start production after the studies and experiments of his alchemist Bottger. Bottger discovered the formula for porcelain, in fact at that time, only the Chinese and Japanese had the recipe to create this wonderful material; Meissen was, therefore, the first porcelain produced in Europe! Bottger never revealed his formula to anyone, only a certain stage was known to the workers; we do not know, even today, in what proportions the different components are mixed; this is the great secret that allowed the famous brand to be considered the best in the world, Meissen porcelain is given the nickname of "white gold"! Through the years, Meissen has perfected its hard-paste products with high-temperature firing during its glazing. Before describing the object under consideration we must make an important clarification; the artifact, one of many that we will publish over time, is part of the museum collection of a historic Florentine crystal grinder that unfortunately closed recently. It is the Marcello Galgani & Son company, whose completely manual and artisanal work has not withstood the disproportionate advance of mass-produced mechanical processes! Marcello Galgani began his craft as a grinder and restorer in 1960; as the years went by, Marcello mastered and became familiar with particular techniques and shapes, resulting in the production of objects that manage to retain the freshness of grinding and engraving, the warmth and softness of light, and the inimitable flavor of unique artifacts. After several years, his son Lorenzo, who grew up among crystals, also entered the business and immediately became passionate about this ancient craft with skill and ability. Stimulated by the aesthetic sense of the past, father and son, set up a workshop in which the shapes they researched and created themselves are mouth-blown by traditional Tuscan glassmakers in Empoli, then ground and engraved using ancient sixteenth-century techniques, with motifs born of the Galgani's inexhaustible imagination or culturally inspired by designs of objects seen and studied in Florentine museums (Uffizi, Galleria Palatina, Museo degli Argenti, etc.). Marcello and Lorenzo Galgani were also Masters in the difficult art of restoration, bringing rare and precious objects back to life. As mentioned the company recently closed and disposed of all its last production, only Marcello's old private museum collection remained, which includes unique and special objects created over time, a collection that the craftsman made available to us for a planned sale. All of the objects were made entirely by hand with old grinding wheels, but there were mainly two tools that allowed the creation of masterpieces: the right hand and the left hand of the master craftsman. Ancient glassmaking techniques were used for all the ground and engraved products: first the object was ground with an emery wheel fed continuously by a jet of abrasive sand and water, then re-polished with a very fine-grained sandstone wheel also fed with water; the engravings were done freehand using as many as 10-15 small stone wheels for each design (flowers, branches, animals, etc. ); then the object was polished and shined; we must make, at this point, an important clarification on these last two operations: towards the end of the 1960s acid crystal polishing was devised, the object was immersed and rotated in a solution of sulfuric acid, fluoridic acid and water and in a short time all the defects left by the previous processes were eliminated, it was a fast, industrial operation that allowed to lower costs considerably, with discrete but not excellent results. But for Galgani's products polishing is done with a cork bark wheel wet with water and pumice, to make the surfaces more transparent. Finally, polishing was achieved with a felt wheel wet with a paste of water, iron oxide, and cerium oxide. This series of processes takes an average of two days of work( sometimes much longer) for each object, each engraving or grinding is the result of the creative inventiveness of the two craftsmen, inventiveness that transforms crystal into a material reality of the highest aesthetic value and inestimable value. Iconic and refined French table lamp; the elegant, hexagonal-section base is made of black lacquered wood and grows in height, at its top is a turned brass support on which rests a flattened sphere at the poles made of enameled metal, above the sphere is another brass support on which is housed the lamp holder. The design of the lamp is sumptuous but very proportionate, with a flashy but elegant decorative effect, right in the "Hollywood Regency" style. The lamp was created in Paris between 1970 and 1975; after carefully examining its manufacture and the materials used, we carried out careful and painstaking research and can attribute it with good certainty to the Maison Jansen, a French company that is an international emblem of luxurious style. In 1880, at the height of the Belle Époque, Jean-Henri Jansen emigrated from Holland to open a furniture store on Rue Royale in Paris. Maison Jansen was a success from the start. The shopkeeper was immediately impressed with his lavish, detailed window displays and unique approach to selling furniture within ten years Maison Jansen was no longer a store but a rapidly expanding design company with a wealthy and loyal clientele, clients he would retain for nearly a century. It was one of the most famous and influential interior decorating houses of the 20th century, frequented by royal families, high society figures, national leaders, and other luminaries of elite society. It was one of the first properly global design firms, one of the most influential voices of the twentieth century, an excellence that helped establish the Jansen style as an undisputed protagonist of design history. The genius of the company lay in its extraordinary ability to retrieve striking forms, colors, and materials from the past. The most sought-after pieces reflected the influence of past design, from the Louis XIV style to the Louis XVI style, from the Directoire era to imperial suggestions. In 1929, upon Jansen's death, the firm continued to expand its presence in the world under the leadership of Stèfan Boudin, Jansen's loyal collaborator; Stéphane Boudin was succeeded, after his death in 1967, by longtime collaborator and colleague Pierre Delbée, whose residence in Paris was world-famous as the pinnacle of Jansen's lush aesthetic, continued to represent the firm in its best designs until 1979, when the firm changed hands.
