Venini-Martinuzzi Attributed Pair of Murano Appliques in "Pulegoso" Glass

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Exceptional and unique pair of Murano glass sconces, have a pleasant and balanced fan shape that juts out overwhelmingly to the outside, has a single point of light, but the particular composition of the crystal allows the light itself to spread in a unique and original when they are lit and flooded with light, cast beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls, creating a cozy warmth in the room despite their icy appearance, play with the natural light (sun) even when they are off; the sturdy metal plate, located on the back, is attached from the front with two white enameled pins and is designed to keep the sconces well attached to the wall; the sconces are of fairly large proportions, but overall they are understated, luxurious and elegant. They were made between 1950 and 1955 in Murano (Italy); we can attribute them with good certainty to the Venini glass company. The Venini company was founded back in 1921, in the mind of Paolo Venini, lawyer, Giacomo Cappellin, Venetian antiquarian, Andrea Rioda, glassmaker. The name of the company at the beginning was Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin-Venini & C. Since its foundation, numerous designers and artists have collaborated, both of national and international fame. Venini was a laboratory in constant evolution; the most evident change was in the artistic inspiration: in 1927 the artistic director changed and Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892-1977), was one of the most influential personalities in the world of art glass, took over from Zecchin. The following year, Martinuzzi presents a real novelty: the "Pulegoso" glass, one of the most revolutionary materials in the history of the glass of the '900; the artist exploits the formation of thousands of air bubbles in the glass mass, originally considered a manufacturing defect, and emphasizes it by transforming the glass into a spongy mass, pockmarked, compact and opaque; this type of inclusion, which makes the glass look like a piece of ice, makes each piece different from the other. The Venini company collaborates over time with the most important designs of every era creating particular and authentic objects. Venini is authenticity. The authenticity that lives in the perfect balance between "savoir-faire" craftsmanship and made in Murano, research of excellence, bold design, originality, and ability to make contemporary and fascinating shared memories. Today, as 100 years ago, the transformation of ideas and intuitions of international artists and designers make Venini a cutting-edge laboratory. A place where the passion for glass and the charm of the Fornace have always enchanted everyone. Venini's products, like all products made of Murano glass, are unique because each workmanship is manual and therefore difficult to replicate in series; its exclusive creations, with refined details and complex workmanship, are rightly included in the world of luxury objects, every aspect is cared for and refined down to the smallest detail. Even today, Venini is a primary company in the magical world of Murano glass. The sconces are in good condition. Measures width cm.30, depth cm.18, height cm.38. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, and the compatibility of the voltage in other countries must always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic pair of wall sconces designed in "Brutalist" style by Julius Theodore Kalmar and produced by Kalmar for the Soria collection between 1960 and 1964, for this series the company preferred to use Murano glass; each sconce consists of a nickel-plated metal frame in the shape of an open box, in the front, there are lamp holders for two light points and an attachment on which the glass structure is easily hooked and can be removed for cleaning, while the one that rests on the wall contains the electrical wires; These spectacular sconces are characterized by the icicle-like glass components (ice glass) that look incredibly similar to a real ice sculpture; when lit and flooded with light, they cast beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls, creating a cozy warmth in the room despite their icy appearance, they play with natural (sun) light even when turned off. Founded by Julius August Kalmar in 1881 in Vienna, Kalmar originally produced handcrafted objects with cast bronze. Over the years, they partnered with acclaimed architects and designers, eventually presenting their custom-made wares at major exhibitions such as the 1888 Vienna Trade Exposition, 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, the 1901 Export Exposition Scandinavia, and the 1906 Austrian Exhibition in London. Entering the 20th century, Kalmar began crafting customized fixtures with top-tier architects and designers for some of the largest luxury projects in the world, a path they continue on today. Notable projects include Makkah Clock Royal Tower, W Doha Hotel, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, The Langham...
