Murano Glass Wall Sconce Italian Art Nouveau Style Blown Glass and Gold

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Valuable and precious Murano glass wall sconce made in a graceful Art Nouveau style; it is an authentic classic Venetian wall lamp worked according to the renowned Murano glass technique; each individual piece was mouth-blown by the Master glassmaker, then finished by hand giving shape and lightness with exceptional skill; the pieces were assembled with mastery and the whole took on a soft and harmonious, elegant and refined form. Our wall sconce is also distinguished by its fine 24K gold decoration; when it is intended to enrich the glass with gold leaf, Master Glazier makes the gold an integral part of the mixture by placing a foil on the part of the mixture collected from the crucible, then covers the whole with an additional glassy layer. At this point, the glassmaker provides the blowing operation through which the gold disperses into the mixture, giving rise to a gold dust effect. With this system, a shining powder is created within the glass itself that discreetly embellishes the object to be created. The two lamp holders have the lights facing upward and this allows for diffused light throughout the room, in addition, the crystal and gold finish creates magical and fantastic plays and reflections of light. Our sconce is a small work of art made between 1950 and 1955 with magical craftsmanship and unparalleled skill by a great master craftsman in a magical, fascinating, and artistic place: a handcrafted furnace in Murano. The making of this object confirms to us that the Venetian aptitude, celebrated over the centuries, for glassmaking, is an alchemical combination of liquid matter worked out by artisan intelligence with happy artistic intuitions and represents a high expression of the craftsmanship and manual skill of the Master glassmakers, a unique and refined work of art characterized by complex workmanship performed by hand that surely fascinates and amazes us. In the central part from which the two arms and other decorations branch, there is a brass plate with several numbered holes, which stand to indicate the correct placement of the different pieces (see photo). We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic pair of wall sconces designed in "Brutalist" style by Julius Theodore Kalmar and produced by Kalmar for the Soria collection between 1960 and 1964, for this series the company preferred to use Murano glass; each sconce consists of a nickel-plated metal frame in the shape of an open box, in the front, there are lamp holders for two light points and an attachment on which the glass structure is easily hooked and can be removed for cleaning, while the one that rests on the wall contains the electrical wires; These spectacular sconces are characterized by the icicle-like glass components (ice glass) that look incredibly similar to a real ice sculpture; when lit and flooded with light, they cast beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls, creating a cozy warmth in the room despite their icy appearance, they play with natural (sun) light even when turned off. Founded by Julius August Kalmar in 1881 in Vienna, Kalmar originally produced handcrafted objects with cast bronze. Over the years, they partnered with acclaimed architects and designers, eventually presenting their custom-made wares at major exhibitions such as the 1888 Vienna Trade Exposition, 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, the 1901 Export Exposition Scandinavia, and the 1906 Austrian Exhibition in London. Entering the 20th century, Kalmar began crafting customized fixtures with top-tier architects and designers for some of the largest luxury projects in the world, a path they continue on today. Notable projects include Makkah Clock Royal Tower, W Doha Hotel, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, The Langham...
