Art Noveau Style Large Crystal Vase Engraved With Butterflies And Dragonflies
Located in Prato, Tuscany
Before describing the object under consideration, we must make an important clarification; the artifact, one of many that we will publish over time, is part of the museum collection of a historic Florentine crystal grinder that unfortunately closed recently. It is the Marcello Galgani & Sons company, whose completely manual and artisanal work has not withstood the disproportionate advance of mass-produced mechanical processes! Marcello Galgani began his craft as a grinder and restorer in 1960; as the years went by, Marcello mastered and became familiar with particular techniques and shapes, resulting in the production of objects that manage to retain the freshness of grinding and engraving, the warmth and softness of light, and the inimitable flavor of unique artifacts. After several years, his son Lorenzo, who grew up among crystals, also entered the business and immediately became passionate about this ancient craft with skill and ability. Stimulated by the aesthetic sense of the past, father and son, set up a workshop in which the shapes they researched and created themselves are mouth-blown by traditional Tuscan glassmakers in Empoli, then ground and engraved using ancient sixteenth-century techniques, with motifs born from the Galgani's inexhaustible imagination or culturally inspired by designs of objects seen and studied in Florentine museums (Uffizi, Galleria Palatina, Museo degli Argenti, etc.). Marcello and Lorenzo Galgani were also Masters in the difficult art of restoration, bringing rare and precious objects back to life. As mentioned the company recently closed and disposed of all its last production, and only Marcello's old private museum collection remained, which includes unique and special objects created over time, a collection that the craftsman made available to us for a planned sale. All of the objects were made entirely by hand with old grinding wheels, but there were mainly two tools that allowed the creation of masterpieces: the right hand and the left hand of the master craftsman. Ancient glassmaking techniques were used for all the ground and engraved products: first, the object was ground with an emery wheel fed continuously by a jet of abrasive sand and water, then re-polished with a very fine-grained sandstone wheel also fed with water; the engravings were done freehand using as many as 10-15 small stone wheels for each design (flowers, branches, animals, etc. ); then the object was polished and shined; we must make, at this point, an important clarification on these last two operations: towards the end of the 1960s acid crystal polishing was devised, the object was immersed and rotated in a solution of sulfuric acid, fluoridic acid and water and in a short time all the defects left by the previous processes were eliminated, it was a fast, industrial operation that allowed to lower costs considerably, with discrete but not excellent results. But for Galgani's products polishing is done with a cork bark wheel wet with water and pumice, to make the surfaces more transparent, and finally polishing was achieved with a felt wheel wet with a paste of water, iron oxide, and cerium oxide. This series of processes takes an average of two days of work( sometimes much longer) for each object, each engraving or grinding is the result of the creative inventiveness of the two artisans, inventiveness that transforms crystal into reality material of the highest aesthetic value and inestimable value. All the items in the entire collection have never been used; they were part of the exhibition. Large crystal vase with a black base; the decorations, purely Art Noveau, represent graceful butterflies and dragonflies in a peaceful lake landscape. The object is "one-of-a-kind" signed by the Master; it was created in Marcello Galgani's workshop in 1982 and made with the techniques (grinding, engraving, and polishing) we explained in the description; for the shape, the Master was inspired by a vase found in a painting, preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence by the 16th-century painter Jacopo Ligozzi...

The glass is a delightful combination of intricate cuts and engravings and features some of the most beautiful motifs of the 18th and 19th centuries. Pierre Guariche Designer French Chair with Guild Fabric

The very particular chair has an elegant and aggressive shape; Pierre Guariche is a legendary French designer from the 20th century. He gave a personal and innovative touch to design by combining aestheticism and mass production. As a visionary designer, he knew how to create pieces of furniture with a functionalist approach and an aesthetic dimension. He really wanted to meet the needs of the times by using methods of the series production. His creations became mythic pieces such as the Tonneau chair (1953 and 1954), the Tulip chair (1953), and the President's desk (1961). Our chair was made in France in 1960 and recently retouched with Guild fabric. Italian Designer Pair Poufs with Velvet Cushions and Aluminum Structure
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic and refined pair of poufs with velvet cushions and aluminum frame; the almost square top of the poufs has been restored and upholstered with an expensive, elegant, and sturdy velvet in a delicate but bold green color; the seat is supported by a solid, massive aluminum column and pivoted to it in such a way that it can rotate freely through 360°; from the column branch off four boldly shaped, slightly curved, and extremely sturdy legs at the end of which are placed non-slip rubber feet; these sturdy legs give exceptional stability to the whole. The pair of poufs were handcrafted between 1960 and 1965 in Meda in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy, Italy, a place famous for its design industry and historic handcrafted production of classic and modern furniture. The artisans were inspired by fashion design in those fascinating and creative 1960s, a design that left room for creative freedom and innovation, a design that explodes into a variety of styles and movements that explain its richness, making room for roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness and simplicity. The artisans were inspired by the desire to devise two small-sized objects with strong, simple lines and gave the pair of poufs a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and strictness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. Here, the designer's creativity and craftsmanship come together in an exclusive product, a unique modern furnishing accessory that is both refined and elegant at the same time and fits naturally and simply into both contemporary and classic environments. The 1960s was the time of the advent of pop art, with its bright colors, rounded shapes, plastic and wood, steel and aluminum forming a hitherto unthinkable meeting. 60s furniture...

Fat Lava German Colored And Glazed Ceramic Pitcher
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Peculiar and original German ceramic jug colored with a beautiful shade of red, black, and a vivid orange; it has a simple shape but at the same time innovative and modernist; the beautiful and vivid colors are balanced and proportioned respecting a minimalist design; the glazing of the jar was obtained by first laying down one color, proceeding to fix it by firing it in a kiln, then the same procedure was performed for the other colors; on the bottom bears the traditional mark found on this type of object, indicating that the object was created in a limited series with the jug number and the model number; unfortunately, on our jug this mark is barely legible, but it exists and allows us to say that this object was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden (then in East Germany), an important center of porcelain and ceramic production. "Fat lava" is the name given to a certain style of East German art...

Pair “Faux Bamboo” Frames With Old Italian Shell Prints With Overwritten Text.
Located in Prato, Tuscany
Please read the entire description carefully, as we strive to provide complete technical and historical details to ensure the authenticity of our objects. These two “faux bamboo” frames enclose color prints on paper, depicting compositions of marine corals in strange and rare shapes. The print on the left depicts a seaweed-shaped coral, with intricate details reminiscent of some species of the genus Acropora; the composition on the right depicts a coral belonging to the Gorgonian family, with the peculiarity of being depicted coiled on itself. These colored prints, made in Italy, date from a time when naturalists and illustrators created detailed plates to document and study marine flora and fauna, and can be dated between 1750 and 1770. Their uniqueness lies in the fact that they were used as a medium for writing a text (a letter)at the same time or shortly thereafter. Antique color prints with handwritten text on the entire surface represent an example of an ancient practice called manuscript on image or illustrated manuscript. This technique was widespread in various eras and contexts, both artistic and practical. In medieval manuscripts, it was common to embellish texts with elaborate miniatures, illustrations, and initial letters, often in color. Although not entirely identical, this practice reflects the historical interest in the integration of text and image. During the Victorian period and into the early 1900s, it was common to write letters and messages on picture postcards, often embellished with colorful images and decorations, with lettering covering part or all of the illustration. Japanese ukiyo-e prints often combined images with poems or handwritten descriptions, and this practice spread between the 17th and 19th centuries. Modern and contemporary artists have taken up and reinterpreted this tradition: for example, German artist Anselm Kiefer has created works that combine images with handwritten text across the entire surface. In short, handwriting on color prints was not as common as simple illustrations, but there are numerous historical and modern examples of how text and image can be combined in unique and creative ways. Another notable detail of our prints is that the one on the right has the price “5 soldi” imprinted at the top. The "soldo" is a historical Italian currency with a long and rich history. The soldo originated in the Middle Ages, with the first documented issuance dating back to the Carolingian Empire, around 800 AD. The term “soldo” derives from the Latin word “solidus,” which was a Roman gold coin...

Painting Cutout Oil On Canvas Framed With Faux-Bamboo Wood -03
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly ask that you read the entire description, as we strive to provide comprehensive technical and historical details to ensure the authenticity of our items. This frame encloses a canvas cutout from an antique oil painting and is particularly unique and distinctive. It was recently crafted by a Florentine Master cabinetmaker whose workshop is located in the most charming and vibrant district of Florence, San Frediano, renowned for its artisan shops that produce entirely handmade works. The Master used carved and shaped wood to replicate the appearance of bamboo, employing a technique known as "faux bamboo." This process involves using durable woods, such as maple or oak, that are intricately carved and then painted to achieve the desired effect. The "faux bamboo" technique has a history that dates back several centuries and gained significant popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe and America, eras marked by a fascination with exotic and Oriental design influences. This technique was particularly associated with the Chinoiserie style, an artistic movement inspired by Chinese art and aesthetics. At the time, real bamboo furniture...

Elegant and linear lamp in nickel and gilded brass; the solid round base with two steps, supports a brass sphere from which departs a stem with a refined, harmonious, and proportioned shape; at the top of the stem, there is a small but massive brass disk above which was placed the point of light with the attack for a lampshade (not supplied). The lamp was produced in Paris between 1960 and 1964 in a laboratory for the metalworking, it was a very well-equipped and specialized laboratory because the polishing and finishing of the two metals used were obtained with precision and meticulousness of the highest level; in the process of polishing the piece was worked with wheels of natural ?bre, combined with a very fine abrasive paste, then using other types of wheels it was possible to obtain a perfect polishing so that even the reflection of light becomes more uniform, giving the surface in question the typical bright appearance. These master craftsmen have made the lamp with their own design in Mazda style, by the concession of the Mazda Company itself without being able to affix the brand but following strict production patterns, the original table lamp style "Mazda Lamp" fascinates for its Parisian design of the thirties, simple and functional Art Deco; The successful combination of these mixed materials and refined colors have created a preciousness rich in contrast but very harmonious; in this lamp quality, elegance and fine workmanship are the focus of attention. Here the creativity of the designer and the art of craftsmanship come together to create an exclusive product, a unique modern furnishing accessory, refined and elegant at the same time, which adapts naturally and simply to both contemporary and classic environments.
