Italian Designer Pair Poufs with Velvet Cushions and Aluminum Structure

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic and refined pair of poufs with velvet cushions and aluminum frame; the almost square top of the poufs has been restored and upholstered with an expensive, elegant, and sturdy velvet in a delicate but bold green color; the seat is supported by a solid, massive aluminum column and pivoted to it in such a way that it can rotate freely through 360°; from the column branch off four boldly shaped, slightly curved, and extremely sturdy legs at the end of which are placed non-slip rubber feet; these sturdy legs give exceptional stability to the whole. The pair of poufs were handcrafted between 1960 and 1965 in Meda in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy, Italy, a place famous for its design industry and historic handcrafted production of classic and modern furniture. The artisans were inspired by fashion design in those fascinating and creative 1960s, a design that left room for creative freedom and innovation, a design that explodes into a variety of styles and movements that explain its richness, making room for roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness and simplicity. The artisans were inspired by the desire to devise two small-sized objects with strong, simple lines and gave the pair of poufs a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and strictness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. Here, the designer's creativity and craftsmanship come together in an exclusive product, a unique modern furnishing accessory that is both refined and elegant at the same time and fits naturally and simply into both contemporary and classic environments. The 1960s was the time of the advent of pop art, with its bright colors, rounded shapes, plastic and wood, steel and aluminum forming a hitherto unthinkable meeting. 60s furniture responds to a futuristic, no-frills, minimalist imagery. The 1960s were nonconformist years par excellence. The watchword: eccentricity. They were also the years when prosperity and economic growth led to the development, which had already begun in the 1950s, of industrial design that made it possible to furnish functionally and with taste and creativity. Indeed, with the spread of the Design material, homes became architecturally designed spaces for living between functionality and beauty. The poufs have been reupholstered and polished in the aluminum parts, so they are in excellent condition. Measurements width cm.60, depth cm.50, height cm.42, seat cm.42. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and refined pair of Italian armchairs; the strong frame is made of wood, the legs are painted black, and the seat is large, wide, and comfortable also thanks to the particular shape of the two large armrests; their design is energetic and compact. They were made between 1960 and1965 between Meda and Mariano Comense in Brianza (a prolific industrial and artisan area of Lombardy Italy) where there is a high production of designer furniture made with great craftsmanship. The armchairs have been restored and we have also upholstered them with Designer Guild's iconic and sophisticated velvet with a "Janneret" pattern with geometric cut and interlocking lines. One of the company's most popular fabrics. (see original Guild set photo). The entire work was handcrafted with skill and precision by an old Master craftsman from Prato (Italy). We would like to remind you that the city of Prato is considered the largest textile center in the world, its craftsmen and companies, highly specialized, are a benchmark for creativity, quality, and excellence. We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Very comfortable and elegant upholstered armchair; the frame is very solid with sturdy legs made of polished and brushed brass; the seat is deliberately low but large and comfortable; the wide overall appearance has soft and pleasing lines, perfect for conveying a feeling of comfort and well-being. The armchair was made between 1960 and 1963 by an artisan workshop in Meda (Milan, Italy) that collaborated with several Lombard architects; for the creation of the armchair, the artisans were inspired by architect Marco Zanuso, following his design. Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) was among the greatest interpreters of the culture of the modern, as an architect, designer, and university lecturer; he was one of the first designers to take an interest in the problems of product industrialization, going beyond the aesthetic question to incorporate technological, industrial, distribution and communication variables. The form of an object intended for serial reproduction, according to Zanuso, is thus a synthesis of opportunities, experimentation, and innovations located in the concrete process that links creativity, production, and sociocultural context. His countless creations include the Lady armchair, and the Antropus armchair...
