Cesare Lacca Designer Italian Service Cart Walnut And Glass Tops.

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. The cart will necessarily have to be shipped disassembled, to avoid glass breakage; we assure you that reassembly is very easy. Peculiar and iconic serving or tea trolley; the softly proportioned lines of the frame are made of walnut treated with a light protective varnish to give it a discreet and elegant polish, characteristic of Cesare Lacca trolleys; two rectangular panes of glass, one upper and the other lower, function as countertops and add a touch of refinement and luxury to the overall design; for intelligent practicality and safety, the two panes of glass are inserted into grooves cut into the wooden frame; with this design, the trolley provides ample space for storing and displaying bottles, glasses, and other bar accessories. Two brass bars with a wooden carry-over in the center are placed at the upper ends of the cart and act as grips to move the cart. The legs are fitted with classic wheels that turn 360 degrees. We can say with certainty that the trolley is one of the many but unmistakable creations of designer Cesare Lacca; it was made between 1950 and 1955 at one of the many artisan carpentry workshops in Brianza (Lombardy, Italy), a historic location known for its designer furniture, made with great craftsmanship and where Cesare Lacca had most of his trolleys made ( he used top-notch craftsmen in the area of Cantù, Lombardy, for the furniture). Born in Naples in 1929, Italian architect-scenographer-designer Cesare Lacca created modernist furniture and metalwork in the 1950s. Like many 20th-century Italian designers, Lacca moved to Milan after World War II to launch his career. The details of his personal life and professional training are very meager, but his works have left their mark both in Italy and abroad. Cesare Lacca is particularly known for his modern-style furniture of the 1950s, which combined clean and essential geometric shapes, his pieces often featured curved details and lacquered or painted finishes that gave his creations a distinctive look. Cesare Lacca's most iconic works are undoubtedly his wooden bar carts; they are considered functional and decorative pieces that are highly sought after by collectors and fans of mid-century modern design. Over the course of his career, Lacca designed a large number of tea and serving trolleys (which correspond to most of his pieces available on today's market), coffee tables, and magazine racks, and although there are many different versions of the trolleys, they all have the same organic features and soft lines. He participated in national and international exhibitions and among them at the Milan Triennials in 1951 and 1954 and in 1950/1953 at "Italy at Work," a very important traveling exhibition promoting Italian design in the U.S. The curator of the exhibition M.R. Roger says of him:" The variety and quality of his creations place him among the most influential architects and designers of the current modernist movement, the quality of his work shines through decorative effect, without yielding to exaggeration or effort." On the wooden structure, we did not consider doing any restoration because its surface veiled patina and small imperfections make it truly seductive and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity. Moreover, restoration would have distorted the original varnish of the carriage, which is one of the fundamental characteristics of Cesare Lacca's works. Measures width cm.82, depth cm.44, height cm.68. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, Styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

  • Franco Albini Style Vintage Italian Bamboo And Rattan Bar Cart
    By Franco Albini
    Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. A particular handcrafted trolley made of bamboo and rattan; is characterized by a light and airy-looking shape; the very solid structure is made of sturdy bamboo elements to shape two comfortable round containers joined by a complex frame, part of which has been bent and protrudes from the structure to form the convenient handle to push the trolley, which is equipped with swivel wheels moves with great ease. We may suggest placing two sheets of glass on the bottom of the round containers to further increase the functionality of the cart. It was made, in the modernist style of Franco Albini, between 1967 and 1969 with extraordinary manual skill in a small workshop between the provinces of Parma and Cremona (Italy), along the banks of the river Po, an area of Italy's very prolific and famous for the cultivation and production of bamboo. The tradition of this furniture was born in the United States at the end of the nineteenth century. The fashion soon spread to Europe and Italy, both in the Brianza (Italy) area and in the Po Valley and Tuscany. From an eminently poor material, it found itself covering the role of luxury detail in contemporary projects, bringing with it the added value of dozens of hours of manual workmanship carried out by a class of specialized artisans in danger of extinction. The term bamboo identifies a group of very vigorous evergreen herbaceous plants which grow in a tropical or very humid climate; all bamboo species have as a common characteristic the very high hollow stem which is easily workable and rather rigid. It is used for the production of furniture, chairs, deckchairs, sofas but also objects and even parquet and floors; bamboo is a symbol of resistance: it is appreciated for its ability to withstand storms without breaking, thanks to its flexible and hollow stem and its extraordinarily strong roots. It is a symbol of purity, steadfastness, and other virtues. Rattan is obtained from the Indian cane, nicknamed Rattan d'India or Rattan cane left to dry in the sun at the edge of the forests takes on extraordinary qualities of strength and durability, in the field of outdoor finishes is processed with or without bark. It is widely used for the realization of chairs, tables, sofas, and benches. There are many users who wonder about the difference between rattan and wicker; the wicker is the innermost part of the rattan cane that is divided into very thin strips, therefore, it is the most valuable and refined part of the Indian cane and for this reason, it is also more delicate. There is also wicker, a material obtained by weaving branches of willow or other plants. The elasticity and the resistance of willow wicker make it, since ever, ideal for the production of baskets and baskets; for these manufacturers, it also used rush, a small perennial plant present in marshy or maritime areas. Franco Albini (October 17, 1905 - November 1, 1977) was an Italian architect, designer, and university professor of neo-rationalist design. A young student of Gio Ponti, Albini becomes in the early '30s one of the key figures of Italian Rationalism, which, however, gives an eclectic interpretation in many ways. It is on the basis of these beliefs that after the war he approached the world of woven fibers, forging a close relationship with the workshop of Vittorio Bonacina. The result of this collaboration culminates in the furniture in bamboo...

  • Italian Designer Pair Poufs with Velvet Cushions and Aluminum Structure
    Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic and refined pair of poufs with velvet cushions and aluminum frame; the almost square top of the poufs has been restored and upholstered with an expensive, elegant, and sturdy velvet in a delicate but bold green color; the seat is supported by a solid, massive aluminum column and pivoted to it in such a way that it can rotate freely through 360°; from the column branch off four boldly shaped, slightly curved, and extremely sturdy legs at the end of which are placed non-slip rubber feet; these sturdy legs give exceptional stability to the whole. The pair of poufs were handcrafted between 1960 and 1965 in Meda in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy, Italy, a place famous for its design industry and historic handcrafted production of classic and modern furniture. The artisans were inspired by fashion design in those fascinating and creative 1960s, a design that left room for creative freedom and innovation, a design that explodes into a variety of styles and movements that explain its richness, making room for roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness and simplicity. The artisans were inspired by the desire to devise two small-sized objects with strong, simple lines and gave the pair of poufs a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and strictness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. Here, the designer's creativity and craftsmanship come together in an exclusive product, a unique modern furnishing accessory that is both refined and elegant at the same time and fits naturally and simply into both contemporary and classic environments. The 1960s was the time of the advent of pop art, with its bright colors, rounded shapes, plastic and wood, steel and aluminum forming a hitherto unthinkable meeting. 60s furniture...
