Made from tin-glazed pottery, known as faience, this antique French interior wall fountain is from circa 1880. All three sections that comprise the fountain have been hand painted in cobalt blue and white, reminiscent of Delftware that was popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. The top section is in the form of a French-style dolphin, with a raised tail and a mouth that features a small excavation for a waterspout. Beneath the dolphin’s head is a scalloped shell basin with volute valves that rests upon a foliate column embellished with C-scrolls and subtle fluting.
