This exceptional piece is a fine ormolu-mounted and malachite mantel clock, with a movement made and stamped by Leroy and Pailly, dating to c.1840. Made in the Charles X style, this work exhibits the timeless combination of gilt-bronze and malachite to great effect, mounting the fine 19th century movement within a later malachite addition, surmounted in turn by a superb statue of horse and jockey. Both the backplate and the silvered brass dial, painted with Roman numerals, are stamped 'JACQUIER, A PARIS.' It bears the serial number 146 to upper left hand margin, and features steel moon hands set within a generous gilt laurel wreath cast bezel; it is cased in malachite (a later veneer), and richly adorned with gilt-bronze.
