This exceptional antique sterling silver gilt inkstand has a rectangular, cut cornered form. The cast silver gilt George V inkstand is embellished with four mythological creatures, each with a scaled body and the lower portion of a fish, in addition to an open jawed dragon style head and clawed legs. The ornamentation to the body includes two vacant circular cartouches in addition to two pellet designs, segmenting the creatures. The stand is further ornamented with an undulating leaf textured border to the rim, The surface of this exceptional example of antique silverware incorporates two applied C-shaped supports, composing a pen stand. This antique hallmarked silver inkstand is supported by four impressive cast feet accented with large scrolling terminals and tri-lobed sockets. The stand incorporates a central circular receiver which accommodates the original nephrite ink pot. This exceptional carved nephrite inkpot is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver gilt lining and incorporates two hand pieces modelled in the form of mythical creatures grasping the aforementioned liner rim. This stellar powerful and conversational silvered bronze and sterling silver limited edition abstracted Love sculpture was commissioned by Christofle and designed and executed by a young Chinese woman artist named Xiao Hui Wang. She is a very accomplished and talented artist of photography sculpture, design and media art. She has exhibited internationally and has won numerous awards. Aside from all those talents she is a socialite, playwright, architect and author. This is the first time in Christofle history that a young Chinese artist, albeit a woman was asked to create this commission. She was a very special choice for Christofle. It is signed and numbered on the bottom. It is signed with the artists name not terribly legible, then Christofle then 08/66 then France. The base is very heavy and is sterling silver. The top is silvered bronze and was lacquered. The base cannot be lacquered because it is sterling silver so it will tarnish from time. You will be able to polish it. We have not seen another one on line or anywhere else. The original monumental sculpture was first created on the occasion of the Shanghai Expo and stands elegantly in monumental form at the flagship Hilton in Singapore. This is a great symbol of how the masters of silver which are Christofle have transcended the art of the table to the art of the living in sensuality. This is stellar sensual and sexy sculpture that will elicit conversation. It took over 40 hours to create just one. It created reflections of magnitude from the surface and each angle is a different representation. It is extremely heavy and came in its own crate from Paris. This exceptional antique Victorian cast sterling silver vesta box has been realistically modelled in the form of a tortoise. The plain oval body of this Victorian vesta box is embellished with cast and applied components replicating the details of the tortoise's legs and head. The anterior surface of this rare box features an applied oval serrated panel / match striker. The hinged tortoiseshell cover opens to reveal the original gilt interior. The underside of the body bears the contemporary engraved inscription 'July 1883'. Condition This antique Victorian vesta box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. There are some blemishes and wear to the original gilding, in keeping with age. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are very clear.
