Timber Mazer 350 Sculpture by Tom Fereday Dimensions: W 35 x D 35 x H 55 cm Materials: Solid Oak & Walnut. Weight: 76 Kg. MAZER COLLECTION: Mazer represents a series of geometric sculptures, each a celebration of the fundamental beauty and natural variation of stone. Strict brutalist forms of the table and seating collection are juxtaposed by soft organic cutaways carving through the porous stone surfaces, revealing the natural beauty and character of travertine. Named after the medieval term ‘Mazer’ meaning bowl, the collection presents subtle organic forms proportioned for table and seating function designed for permanence. Porous formations of the stone’s structure act as an intentional disruption to the clean geometric forms of the series adding character and intrigue. The limited edition series was crafted from travertine and locally produced in Italy from a combination of machine and traditional hand made processes, each piece exhibiting its own unique characteristics and form with no one piece alike. Mazer is designed by Australian designer Tom Fereday exemplifying Fereday’s desire to honour materiality, combining form and function to produce enduring works. Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment. Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Framework. Carved wood, late 17th-early 18th century. Rectangular frame that presents a "base structure" of straight lines, combining moldings of different widths and finishes (inside, a golden band with Fine plant details towards the corners; then a thin red one, and a wider green one, these two the latter imitating marble; outside, another fine gilt molding), enhanced with a series of carvings of vegetal elements in the corners (symmetrical composition), two ovoid elements on the long sides and a highly elaborate cresting with vegetal elements, rockeries, scrolls, flowers and imitation of fabrics (which are joined with those ovoid elements mentioned). The combination of red, green and gold is common in certain types of frames (compare, for example, with the terracotta of Salamanca made around the middle of the 16th century by Juan de Juni, which is kept in the Victoria and Albert Museum). On it, a series of carvings with a lot of movement and depth have been added, showing Baroque influence (reminiscent in certain details of works such as the frame of the Immaculate Conception by Alonso Cano...

The Jewellery Box of rectangular form veneered in exotic Coromandel and edged in brass with a circular brass vacant initial plaque to the lid framed in double stringing and matching circular brass barrel escutcheon to the front. The exterior of the Jewellery Box is finished with double brass stringing framing the front and top panel. When opened the Jewellery Box reveals an inner reversible mirror which can be removed to access document storage in the rear. The document storage is signed with a gold impressed mark for Manufactures Thomas and George Austin of Dublin. To the top of the Jewellery Box is a removable partitioned tray lined in royal blue silk water paper with cushioned velvet pads including ring and/or cufflink storage.
