We are pleased to offer for sale a large handcrafted cane and rattan basket with lid, made in Italy in the style of the iconic Vivai del Sud. Clearly dating to the 1960s, this striking and highly decorative piece perfectly captures the organic elegance and Mediterranean sophistication associated with Italian mid-century design. Originally conceived as a functional storage basket, ideal for concealing everyday objects, the piece also features an opening at the base, suggesting it may have originally been designed as a cachepot or planter cover — perfect for displaying tropical plants, palms, or succulent arrangements in a refined indoor setting. Entirely handcrafted, the basket is constructed from multiple bent and woven rattan canes, expertly joined to create a sculptural and durable form. The removable lid integrates beautifully into the overall design and remains visually appealing even when left open. The curved cane handle is enhanced with an elegant handwoven rattan fiber wrapping, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship typical of high-end Italian wicker production from the period.
