Head of a Woman, Ceramic Sculpture, American Studio Pottery 1970s
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage Modernist ceramic sculpture features a head of young woman, made from raw terracotta and sculpted using the hands and small tools. The model's hair is arranged in low bun on the back of her head; she is looking straight forward with calm, serene expression on her face, delivering a real presence within the room. The bust is in very good vintage condition with beautiful patina commensurate with age. It is marked on the front with what we believe is a name of the model and the date, either 1971 or 1977, but it's missing the artist signature or stamp. The bust was found in an estate of American studio pottery collector in Western New York area with an extensive collection of early, Mid Century, and contemporary pottery, including multiple pieces signed Almond NY or created by artists working in that area. It is highly probable that the bust was created as a custom order by one of the studio potteries in the area of Almond or Alfred, renowned for the technical creativity and advancements in ceramic art in School of American Craftsman and Alfred University, as well as the early 1900s studio pottery movement in America, the Arts and Crafts phase of studio pottery, and Modernist movement. Arthur E. Baggs, Charles F. Binns, and Linn L Phelan...

Bronze Bust Sculpture Att. Will Rogers on Green Stone Base by Leonard McMurry
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
A large striking bronze bust sculpture of a man with the likeness of Will Rogers. This piece was created by Leonard McMurry, also known as Oklahoma’s “Michelangelo”. It stands on a green marbled stone square base. The sculpture depicts a man, with an extreme likeness to Will Rogers. The man has combed hair, which is parted to one side. The sculpted bronze bust has a fabulous patina, and the square green stone it is affixed to is marbled with fantastic greens, blacks, and creams. About the Artist: Leonard McMurry, (1913–2008) - McMurry is best known for his bronzes, which are primarily figurative, in many venues, from Oklahoma City to St. Louis to New York City. In 1941 his work received Honorable Mention in the Prix de Rome competition. In 1952 his work was included in the National Sculpture Society show in New York. Among his works in Oklahoma are The 89er, at the Oklahoma City Civic Center, The Legend of the Great Westerner (informally called "Buffalo Bill") at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, and Healing Hands, at the City of Faith Hospital/Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. (which at the time was the largest casting in the world.) For the 1982 Diamond Jubilee of Oklahoma statehood, McMurry completed a series of twenty-one busts of Oklahoma's governors. He also created fourteen busts for the National Hall of Fame for American Indians in Anadarko. Leonard McMurry died in 2008. Born to a family of prominent cotton farmers in the Texas panhandle, McMurry moved to Oklahoma in 1955 and studied under the sculptor's Carl Mose and Ivan Mestrovic...

Benjamin Harrison Indian Peace Medal on Presentation Collar, 1889
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original Benjamin Harrison presidential peace medal. This bronze medal was originally struck by the U.S. Mint in 1889 as a peace offering to the various Native American tribes in the U.S. The obverse of the medal has a raised relief side profile bust of President Harrison, with the text "Benjamin Harrison President U.S.A. 1889". The reverse of the medal has the word "PEACE" at top, with a scene of a settler and Native American talking in front of a log cabin. Below, a crossed tomahawk and peace pipe are enclosed by a wreath of laurel leaves. The medal is displayed on a blue velvet presentation collar with gold striped edging and light purple fabric on the reverse. The medal is attached under a blue fabric covered button. Following the British and French practice of handing out silver medals to tribal chiefs, George Washington began a policy of presenting peace medals to American Indian leaders at treaty signings and other formal ceremonies. Every subsequent American president from Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Harrison is represented on a presidential peace medal, with the exception of William Henry Harrison...
