Large Antique Hand Carved Sandstone Sculpture, Bust of Christ with Display Stand
Located in Lisse, NL
Top quality and mint condition bust sculpture from the early 1900s with maker's name. This incredibly well carved bust of Jesus is impressive both for its quality and its large size. With His head bowed down like in His final hours on the cross this design is obviously perfect for displaying on a tall stand. In this case a tall and ebonized wooden pedestal was used and thanks to the contrasting colors of this bust and its pedestal they are like a match made in heaven. The master sculptor / artist could not have done a better job in hand carving the exhausted yet serene facial expression of Christ. The large size of this bust combined with the rare sandstone material makes this work of religious art look extra ancient. Because of its size this archetype of Christianity can also be seen and worshipped from further away. Unfortunately we cannot read the name of the skilled artisan who signed this unique sculpture. Thanks to its amazing quality, its excellent condition, its deeper meaning and its powerful presence this work of religious art will never fail to impress, no matter where you decide to have it on display. For it to have come our way felt like a blessing and to be able to offer it to the 1stdibs community in this amazing condition is an honour for us. Our fair price for this museum worthy sculpture again includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Total height x width x depth: 74 x 17 x 16.5 inches. Christ bust...

Antique Nutwood & Oak Wine Theme Tilt-Top Table with Hand Carved Faun Sculpture
Located in Lisse, NL
Remarkable, practical and highly decorative antique table. We are certain that this incredibly well-crafted and one of a kind table will appeal to both antique furniture enthousiasts in general AND to wine related antique collectors in particular. Because of its worldly subject matter, decorative appeal and top quality workmanship we expect people from all walks of life and from many countries across the globe to take a liking to this work of art and table into one. To us, this unique table ticks all the boxes and we, again, felt blessed for it to come our way. Just like, through our hands, we expect it to find exactly the right custodian somewhere in the world. The design, the workmanship and the symbolism in this antique, is what makes it so much more than just a table. The entire design and condition is remarkable, but the incredibly well carved faun or satyr sculpture in the stem of this table really is what takes it to the next level. The details of the faun (he is often found in sculptures together with Bacchus), his amazing polished surface and patina, but also the grape vines and bunches, they really are an absolute joy to own and to look at. Thanks to the perfect tripod base this table also stands as strong and firm as the day it was handmade all those decades ago. Apart from some truly minor wear, consistent with age and of being used and enjoyed, this 19th century solid wooden, wine theme...

Finest Quality, Antique Hand Carved Nutwood Swiss Black Forest Cow Sculpture
Located in Lisse, NL
Museum quality and condition Swiss black forest sculpture. For the collectors of the rarest and best quality Black Forest sculptures. This incredibly detailed, hand-carved cow can only be from the Swiss Black Forest region around the lake of Brienz. This simply can only be the work of a Swiss master carver, because to be able to create this much detail on a relatively small sculpture takes a god given talent and a lifetime of experience. With the anatomy, the posture AND the balance being perfectly correct, this work of art is simply devine. An experienced antique dealer once learned us that a great sculpture looks good from all angles and that certainly is the case with this striking cow. Some of the details are so intricate, you would think that it took a needle to carve them. Apart from the muscles and bones, in some areas you can even see the veins and the patina is second to none as well. With absolutely no damage or restaurations to be found, we have no problem rating this rare antique as being of museum quality and condition. If you like this rare cow sculpture as much as we do than you will love our price. Not only because we have seen Black Forest cows...
