Fine 19th Century Vienna-Style Porcelain Vase 'Search for Love' by Pirkenhammer

By Pirkenhammer

Located in Los Angeles, CA

A Very Fine and Impressive Bohemian 19th Century Vienna-Style Neoclassical Revival Style Pirkenhammer Porcelain Vase - Urn. The ovoid shaped finely painted all around body with allegorical scenes representing 'The Search for Love', with one side depicting a pensive maiden seated on a rock form by the seashore, the opposite side depicting a maiden, also seated by the seashore, being visited by a love-cupid (cherub or angel), flanked by a pair of finely detailed double-headed snake-form 24 carat gilt handles centered with mask terminals, raised on an attached circular gilt, cream and blue Celeste decorated plinth. Stamped with an underglaze black printed crossed hammers mark and further mark "O.P.C.N. / RAD" to the underside. The associated and later domed cobalt-blue, cream and gilt decorated porcelain cover-lid with a cream and gilt bud finial, not original to the vase. Signed "Al Eckardt". Circa: Bohemia, 1890-1894. The porcelain painter A. Louis Eckardt is mentioned by Waltraud Neuwirth, Porzellanmaler-Lexicon (1977), Vol. I, p.251 as working from the Prager Strasse in Dresden in 1894. The Bohemian Pirkenhammer factory was founded in 1803, and in the second half of the 19th century the factory was exporting to Vienna and London. The Prikenhammer marks on these vases show they were made after 1887, and it is therefore likely this vase can be dated between the time of the introduction of the mark for this Bohemian factory, and the time Eckhardt returned to Dresden in 1894. Eckhardt is also recorded as a painter of Berlin plaques. The Pirkenhammer porcelain factory was established in 1802 in Karlovy Vary using...

Beautifully Carved Sienna and Carrara Marble Bust of Julius Ceasar circa 1950s

Located in Swedesboro, NJ

**Mid-Century Italian Marble Bust of Julius Caesar – 1950s Classical Sculpture** This exceptional **marble bust of Julius Caesar**, handcrafted in **Italy circa 1950**, captures the enduring majesty and power of Rome’s most legendary leader. Expertly carved from **fine white Carrara marble** with a contrasting **brecciated sienna marble drapery**, the sculpture demonstrates a striking balance between realism and classical idealism. The artist skillfully rendered Caesar’s commanding expression, detailed beard, and textured hair, lending an aura of strength, wisdom, and stoic authority. Resting on a **solid black marble base**, this bust is a superb example of post-war Italian craftsmanship inspired by the **neoclassical revival** of the mid-20th century. The piece remains in **good original condition**, exhibiting only minor age-appropriate wear consistent with its vintage. It stands as a timeless decorative statement for a **library, study, or grand entryway**, evoking the grandeur of ancient Rome. A Pair French 19th-20th Century Neoclassical Cast-Iron Female Torchères Lights

A Pair French 19th-20th Century Neoclassical Cast-Iron Female Torchères Lights

Located in Los Angeles, CA

A very fine pair of French 19th-20th century neoclassical style patinated cast iron figural torchères by A. Durenne, Paris, each representing a figure of a standing young maiden, her arms raised forward while holding a a flaming urn gas light (Now electrified) with a frosted glass flame, each raised on a veined grey marble column stand, both cast-signed 'A. Durenne, Paris'. Antoine Durenne was an internationally renowned French art founder. He attended École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1842. Durenne purchased a small foundry in Sommevoire, near the Val d'Osne, Haute-Marne, France and established The Durenne firm, circa Paris, 1900. Cast-iron had been in production during the 18th century but its inferior status to the more fashionable and delicate wrought iron had generally confined its use to architectural work. By the early 19th century, however, rapid developments of the Industrial Revolution combined with the simultaneous burgeoning of a new middle class provided the impetus for a dramatic Expansion in its application and in a short space of time a proliferation of iron foundries across Europe and America thrived on the production of everything from inkstands to railway stations. The use of cast-iron for garden ornament became particularly widespread at this time, as the possibilities for its mass-production at a fraction of the cost of bronze made it the material of choice for outdoor statuary...
