Rare Linocut Poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso
Located in San Diego, CA
Highly collectible and rare linocut poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso, circa 1954.. The print is in good vintage and measures 24" x 30". It is presented in a simple black wood frame and is signed in the print. Super cool and hard to find Picasso poster! #2912
Starting in the 1950s, Picasso worked with the linocut printer Hidalgo Arnéra to produce posters for ceramic exhibitions and bullfights. The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This regular rhythm of working continued for eight years, every day, except Saturday and Sunday.” This idiosyncratic procedure speaks to the collaborative effort of these printmaking ventures, which included his partner, his printer, and his chauffeur

Original Hand-Colored Antique Map of America by Danckerts, circa 1680
Located in Langweer, NL
Antique map titled 'Novissima et Accuratissima Totius Americae Descriptio per I. Danckerts'. Striking map of America. California is shown as an island, Based Upon Sanson's model. The Great Lakes are shown with an open western coastline. No Northwestern Coast beyond 40 degrees. The seven cities of Cibola appear in the Southwestern US. The conception of the Mississippi River is still very vague and pushed far west of its true mouth. The large lake in the Southeastern US first seen on Le Moyne's map is still present. South America retains its excessively wide format. A hopeful extension from Button's Bay is shown portending a possible Northwest Passage. The map is richly embellished with two cartouches, 9 sailing vessels and elaborate vignettes of native villages, native warriors...

Japan Furniture Exhibition '61
By Sori Yanagi
Located in New York, NY
Catalog accompanying an exhibition held in the United States in 1961, sponsored and published by the Japan Export Furniture Manufacturer Association (JEFMA), a trade organization of 48 leading furniture makers in Japan, in collaboration with their government-run National Industrial Arts Institute, with the dual purpose of stimulating the production of Japanese “Good Design” in furniture, and introducing the results to the U.S. market. According to the introduction to this, the second iteration of this exhibition, “it is full three years since the First Exhibition was held in the United States in 1958…these recent years, we Japanese furniture manufacturers have increasingly equipped with facilities for mass production, so that we are now in a position to offer the products of better quality at lower prices. At the same time we have been making efforts to create furniture of graceful design with Oriental taste, using Japanese traditional craftsmanship. We have mainly selected the furnitures which are ready for mass production, and added some pieces of Japanese taste.”
The 24 page catalog presents chairs, tables, and case pieces by prominent Japanese architects and designers including Katsuo Matsamura, Taichiro Nakai, Kozo Asari, Hideo Saito, Takeshi Mineo, Yujiro Yamaguchi, Ryuchi Ise, Fukuji Suzuki, Masaharu Ito, Keisuke Nakamura, Yo Yamagishi, Shigeru Imai, Shiro Kodo, Tadao Kawanami, Akira Sogi, Tomoichi Yoshida, Sori Yanagi, Taichiro Nakai, Toshio Miyake, Motoi Kojima, Fukui Suzuki, Akira Takayabu, Selichi Watanabe, and T. Nii, along with works from the Industrial Arts Institute and an armchair by American ex-pat Noemi Raymond, wife of architect Antonin Raymond. Manufacturers include. Manufacturers represented in the exhibition include Akita Mokko Co, Bokai Industry Co, Fuji Furniture Co, Haneda, Kosajujo Co, Inada & Co, Iwai Kogyo Co, Imada Mokko Co, Kobe Wood Chemics Assoc., Kosuga & Co, Kotobuki Seating Co, Kobyashi Fukuzo & Co, K.K. Brunschwig and Fils Boscobel Restoration Medford Inn 1804 Hand-Printed Wallpaper
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Brunschwig and Fils Boscobel Restoration Medford Inn 1804 hand-printed wallpaper. Very unusual paper - it is marked as custom hand-printed for the Boscobel Restoration, Inc. with a copyright date of 1977. The Boscobel Restoration is a rebuilt historic mansion (see images 9 and 10) in Garrison, NY using salvaged parts of an original Federal-period home that was demolished in the 1950s. This is a historic pattern, marked on the paper as "Medford Inn, 1804" and a registered design of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. The Medford Inn (see image 11) was built in 1804 and became known as a well-known hotel located on Main Street in Medford, Massachusetts.
The design of the paper hearkens back to Roman tradition of wall decoration, with a trompe l’oleil effect that mimics ornate panelling and stone inlay. As per the this paper was also produced in a brown colorway and is part of the Digital Public Library of America and Historic New England...
