About the Item

Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard created many enduring and sought-after modern Scandinavian designs. This leather sofa set is an archetypal example of their mastery. Lovingly restored, Mid-Century Modern FD451 daybed sofas set designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard. Not only does this stunning set feature the uber-rare, drop down armrests, but the matching solid teak corner table is included too. The original owners opted for arms on opposing sides to accommodate an L-shape scenario that also provides for the corner table and modular functionality. The FMV restoration team spared no expense, and opted for a beautiful, genuine full grain leather than can best be described as dusty-brick. The texture is smooth with a light pebble and satin sheen. The cane arms contrast and complement the solid teak while adding texture and a bit of flare to an otherwise disciplined Danish minimalism. With just a push of a button, the hinged cane armrests can drop-down to provide their multi-functions. Made in Denmark and imported by John Stuart Inc. of NY circa 1950s. Maker's emblems and "Made in Denmark" stamps are present on all (3) pieces. These are true daybeds with the original inner springs. The comfort level is truly superb and was specifically designed for the sleep option. Remove the back bolster of the sofa, or and push the two pieces together, to transform this into a large, cozy and convenient bed. Moreover, the back bolsters can be placed on the drop-down arms to become headrest pillows. Condition & Restoration: The set has all new leather fabric, custom executed by our professional upholsterer. Original, heavy, inner-spring cushions are still dense and supportive. Frames have been touched up and detailed top to bottom. Original support straps are in great shape and the corner table top has been professionally refinished by our in-house cabinet shop. Only minor imperfections remain on the sofa frames. Daybed Sofa with Right Arm: : 63.5” Long x 32.5” Deep x 32” High Daybed Sofa with Left Arm: 63.5” Long x 32.5” Deep x 32” High (17.75" seat height on both) Cocktail / Coffee Table: 33.25” Deep x 30.75” Wide x 17.75” High

Svend Madsen for Karl Lindegaard Danish Teak End Tables Set
By Svend Åge Madsen, Karl Lindegaard
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Gorgeous, large Danish teak end tables produced by Svend Madsen for Karl Lindegarrd. These Mid-Century Modern lamp tables are finished on all sides, and feature elegant styling and expert Scandinavian craftsmanship. A single drawer on each table provides ample storage without compromising the overall modern aesthetic. The solid teak wood legs are a bit thicker than typically seen on Danish furniture. Theses gently contoured legs mimic the humanist feel of the rounded edges on the table tops. Subtly bowed, solid teak edge banding punctuates the far ends of the table tops. These tables are stamped with the Svend Madsen label and marked made in Denmark. Both of the table tops have been refinished. The more than half-a-century old teak wood maintains a warm orange tone that only comes with age. As is the case for many Scandinavian designers from the mid-century period, little biographical information on Danish designer Svend Åge Madsen has survived. What is known has been gleaned from vintage dealers working with limited archival materials, like sales catalogues. Outside of Nordic countries, the designer’s name is often written "Svend Aage Madsen”. While some rare designs date from the late 1950s, the overwhelming majority of Madsen’s furniture was designed in the 1960s. Madsen’s creations epitomize the Danish modern style: he favoured warm teak and rosewood, organic silhouettes, and minimal decorative details. More specific features of his work include “boomerang” legs; sloped, arching desk...
