Livingston creates a surprising effect through an unexpected use of the headrest which, by a simple rotation, becomes a comfortable backrest. It has a “smart” backrest to which a smaller cushion is attached with a zip. The soft, informal seating rests on a light steel base that creates a dynamic contrast with the generous cushions. The original, adjustable backrest and its characteristic full-length seat cushions give Livingston a unique silhouette ideally suited to creating an endless variety of arrangements.
The designer Giuseppe Viganò is dedicated to the industrial design of furniture products and to the artistic direction of companies in the sector. He also provides graphic consulting for the production of catalogues, getting directly involved in the photography, page layout, communication and advertising pages. He designs trade fair layouts and permanent furniture shops or temporary areas for specific events and personally intervenes by indicating the choice of products and scenery design. Where the St. Lawrence River Mon-treal flows in a serpentine pattern, a residential complex marked by the architectural style of brutalism rises up on a small headland – the famous Habitat 67. 354 concrete blocks arranged in a stepped pattern adorn a part of Montreal’s multifaceted skyline, designed by architect Moshe Safdie for Expo 67. Not far from this memorable silhouette grew up Philippe Malouin, who was inspired by these forms of brutalism through-out his life. After Malouin received the call from de Sede and initial ideas were exchanged, the designer was largely given a free hand and Malouin started his work “by making things”. Simply drawing, cutting or even folding different materials are part of the creation of the new sculpture DS-707. Philippe Malouin experimented with folding foam for the Swiss manu-facturer - the result: a modular sofa system with a traditional yet con-temporary aesthetic. Carried by the sweeping serpentines of the river, the idea for a sculpture that fuses into one form was born in the London studio near the Thames. The masterpiece DS-707 is a homage to classic de Sede designs and was created for the future.
The DS-707 is the modern composition of handmade leather and contemporary design. The flowing, soft transitions combine the postmodern era of Swiss furniture design with the clear, open structures of brutalism that inspired designer Philippe Malouin. Available as a comfortable armchair or as a modular sofa that can be combined in infinite ways, the DS-707 is the visual perfection of form that gives every room a unique highlight. Emilio Nanni has a degree in Architecture from the University of Florence. He has worked as a lecturer and researcher at the same faculty, and held lessons and workshops at several Italian university faculties and design schools. He is the founder of the Emilio Nanni arch+design ENa+d studio, which handles projects in the fields of architecture, design, interior design, art direction and design consultancy. As an architect he has designed and built residential buildings of various sizes in several Italian cities. He has worked as a designer for many Italian firms, including Billiani/Novecentoundici, Bross, Cabas, Calligaris, LaboratorioPesaro, Lamm, Mdf Italia, Guzzini, Roche Bobois, Saba, Tonelli, Tonon, Valadier Gioielli, Zanotta and Zeritalia. Padding: The seat cushion is in variable-density polyurethane foam (40IM and 25IM) covered with fine velvet coupled with dacron 280gr/sqm. The lumbar cushion is made in white 100% cotton fabric and padded with washed and sterilized goose down.
