Antique Large Restored Indonesian Teak Coffee Table with Three Drawers, Java
Antique Large Restored Indonesian Teak Coffee Table with Three Drawers, Java

Antique Large Restored Indonesian Teak Coffee Table with Three Drawers, Java

Located in Casteren, NL

This impressive teak coffee table was crafted on the island of Java, Indonesia, during the first half of the 20th century and originally formed part of the interior of a tobacco or cigar company. Tables of this type were commonly used in offices and reception areas of plantations and trading houses, where durability and refined appearance were equally important. Measuring an impressive approximately 76" wide by 39" deep (193 x 100 cm), this substantial table makes a striking centerpiece in both traditional and contemporary interiors. The design is distinguished by its beautifully paneled top, framed with mitered corners that lend the piece a sophisticated architectural character. Its rich dark brown finish accentuates the expressive grain patterns of the solid teak, showcasing the natural movement, growth rings, and subtle variations that make teak such a highly prized wood species. The front is fitted with three generously sized drawers, each retaining its original metal ring pull. These drawers provide practical storage while contributing to the table's balanced and symmetrical design. The subtly tapered legs lend an elegant touch and create a pleasing contrast to the table's substantial proportions. During restoration, the table was carefully sandblasted to remove accumulated finishes and impurities while preserving the character and texture of the wood. It was then professionally refinished in a deep custom-toned dark brown color and sealed with a durable satin-matte finish. This treatment enhances the warmth and depth of the teak while allowing the natural texture and authentic patina to remain clearly visible. What makes this table particularly desirable is the combination of its exceptional size, beautifully executed paneled top, and the presence of three functional drawers. The deep brown finish gives the piece a distinguished and almost architectural presence, while the clean lines and restrained design allow it to integrate effortlessly into a variety of interiors, from colonial and rustic settings to modern and minimalist spaces. A remarkably handsome and unusually large Indonesian...

Dimensions 165cm wide x 223cm high x 60cm deep The Golden Age of the Netherlands spanned for nearly a century finishing towards the end of the 17th century. It was at this time that the Netherlands saw economic prosperity and artistic achievements many of which are now on display in the art galleries all over the world. Most of the Dutch Masters plied their trade during this Golden Age, Johannes Vermeer being possibly the most well known and popular. As prosperity grew, so did the status of many households creating a need for more sophisticated furniture yet functional. The Dutch linen press met this need providing large amounts of storage space to store linens, garments, and other household items. This same ability to provide ample storage has been utilised in many of today’s home although with a modern twist. It’s not unusual to now see the Dutch linen press used...
