3 Tier 17th Century Electric Model Dutch Brass Chandelier w. 30 Lights H250xW230

About the Item

Amsterdam's winding canals and gabled townhouses have long inspired artists seeking to capture the city's romantic spirit. During the Dutch Golden Age, Old Masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer were drawn to Amsterdam, where a thriving art market enabled them to innovate new techniques and styles. In the 20th century, the Amsterdam School architecture movement flourished, blending Art Nouveau and Expressionist influences into creative designs. Today, visitors flock to the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum to admire Dutch artistic marvels, while street performers and contemporary exhibits continue the creative legacy of this haven for the arts. Inspired by a monumental 17th century Dutch original, the commanding three-tier Amsterdam chandelier modernizes antique grandeur with 30 gracefully arching brass arms forming a striking 250cm high by 230cm wide silhouette. Meticulously hand-crafted, intricate scrollwork flourishes across the solid brass frame, exemplifying the artistic mastery of Holland's Golden Age metalworkers. Though designed centuries ago, this palatial chandelier is wired for contemporary illumination, flooding spaces with the decadent ambience of ages past. Equally massive in presence and meticulous in detail, the Amsterdam immerses interiors in old world splendor. Original historical moulds from the era are utilised to create the brass components. Additionally, casting is still done the old-fashioned way in a greasy type of sand called Brussels’ soil. After the crown has been varnished, skilled artisans assemble the components. Electric crowns have bent hollow brass tubes for the arms. The arms and curls are soldered together. While the crowns are being put together, the electrical wiring and lighting components are covertly inserted. Brink & van Keulen, a family-owned business founded in 1946, upholds the art of casting by producing the highest calibre brass chandeliers. Chandeliers by Brink and van Keulen can be found in a number of prestigious churches and monumental buildings in the Netherlands and other parts of the world. Through the transmission of knowledge through many generations, Brink & van Keulen has substantially aided in the preservation of the Dutch yellow casting craft. The business is the sole manufacturer of chandeliers using original casting moulds from the 17th century in all of Europe.

Elias Canneman (1933-1970) is the name of a former chief architect of the Dutch National Trust for Historic Buildings. He was trusted with extensive projects after the Second World War, such as the Belfry of Sluis, Walenburg Castle, Duivenvoorde Castle, the New Church and the Markiezenhof. Canneman was also especially sympathetic to the fate of traditional Dutch chandeliers. He provided Brink & van Keulen with advice about the yellow casting craft and recommendations regarding maintenance and restoration. Commanding yet refined, the majestic three-tier Canneman 170.2 chandelier modernizes antique opulence with 18 gracefully arching brass arms. At a dramatic 150cm high and 125cm wide, this imposing fixture emulates an ornate 17th century Dutch original down to the intricate hand-detailed metalwork swirling across its solid brass frame. Though designed centuries ago, the Canneman 170.2 is wired for contemporary use, immersing modern spaces in decadent old world lighting...
