Vintage Moroccan Wedding Blanket, Berber Handira Tamizart

By Berber Tribes of Morocco

Located in Dallas, TX

20822 Vintage Moroccan wedding blanket, Berber Handira Tamizart. This handwoven wool vintage Moroccan wedding blanket also known as a Berber Handira features rows of fluffy fringe embellished with accent colors and a hint of paillette sequins. The underside of this vintage Handira blanket displays Kilim bands on a black-coffee backdrop with accent colors. These bands are linked back to the flat-weave kilims of the region. Generally woven by the bride's family members, these Moroccan Handiras are symbolic textiles infused with the Baraka to bestow blessings. Moroccan wedding blankets are believed to keep away evil spirits, bring good luck to the new married couple, and bequeath fertility. The depth of meaning presented in this cream-colored cherished textile, is what make Moroccan Handira wedding...

Oil Painting from 1937 Harbor View by Carles Bisschops, Oil on Panel

Located in Casteren, Noord-Brabant

Beautiful and vivid painting, oil paint on panel. The painting shows a picturesque harbor on the French Mediterranean. This work is by the Flemish painter Charles-Louis Bisschops (Liège, April 25, 1894 - Rossignol, 1975). The painting has a somewhat impressionistic touch and a beautiful use of color. The blue color of the water contrasts nicely with the shady buildings. The painting is framed in a classic wooden gilded frame. On the back of the painting is an old label stating that the painting was painted in the French port of Ferrier (near Marseille on the Mediterranean). The painting is clearly signed and dated 1937. Charles Bisschops has his own Wikipedia page, information about this: Charles Bisschops was a Belgian painter, graphic artist and draftsman. He was a student at the Academy of Brussels from 1912 to 1919. The main professors were Jean Delville and Constant Montald.

Located in Guaynabo, PR

This is a water color painting of a place in the Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It depicts a long staircase that is called “ La Escalinata del Hospital “or “La Escalinata de Las Monjas’ between colorful buildings with Spaniard architecture. A long balcony stands out from the upper part of one of the buildings at the left. A sign hanging from the guardrail of this balcony read: “ Ladies for rent for single men”. The name comes because a former hospital of San Juan was built nearby and there was also a nunnery, that became a hotel that is known today as El Convento Hotel. There are some planters with green plants adorning the staircase. A man with a backpack is climbing the stairs. An antique headlight...
