French Bronze Sculpture “La Danse” by Eugene Delaplanche
French Bronze Sculpture “La Danse” by Eugene Delaplanche

French Bronze Sculpture “La Danse” by Eugene Delaplanche

By Eugène Delaplanche, F. Barbedienne Foundry

Located in Shippensburg, PA

EUGÉNE DELAPLANCHE French, 1836-1891 "La Danse" Medium-brown patinated bronze Signed in cast E. Delaplanche Incised "F. Barbedienne Fondeur Paris" & numbered 225; sealed with A. Collas reduction cachet 29 3/8" H x 8" D x 9 1/4" W This is a very fine casting of La Danse after the original model by Eugene Delaplanche and executed by the Ferdinand Barbedienne foundry in Paris circa 1890-1910. It is titled in Kjellberg's monumental work as Zéphyr and is noted as Fée Aux Fleurs (The Flower Fairy) in Berman's volumes. The sculpture depicts a young nymph as she gracefully spins on a smooth dirt path while her diaphanous dress spins around her body while the the wind catches the bottom and carries it wildly into the breeze. La Danse was initially exhibited at the Salon of 1886 as no. 3768 in plaster and the following year he exhibited the same model executed as Salon catalogue entry no. 4000, a life-size marble. His final exhibition of the model was it at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889. The sculpture was cast by Barbedienne in several editions, including 40 cm, 61.5 cm, 97 cm and 115 cm. The present example shows the careful attention of the ciseleur and shows beautiful chasing of the details. An attractive overall medium-golden-brown patina leaves the surface rich and full of life, being overall translucent and glowing throughout. Every detail is vivid, from the flowers and foliage held gently in her fingers, to the wrinkles of these fingers, her perfectly detailed face with a sharp little nose, eyes that are full of laughter and joy and a firm jaw. The naturalistic base is inscribed both "Delaplanche" and "F. Barbedienne Fondeur, Paris" and is numbered 225. EUGÉNE DELAPLANCHE Born in Belleville, France in February of 1836, Eugéne Delaplanche was a student of August Deligand and Francisque Joseph Duret...

The Chintz Blossom Royale: A Vintage Turkish Rose Kilim of Exquisite Grandeur

The Chintz Blossom Royale: A Vintage Turkish Rose Kilim of Exquisite Grandeur

Located in Dallas, TX

70271 Vintage Turkish Rose Kilim Rug, 09'00 x 10'11. There is a certain joy—an unapologetically sumptuous, romantic joy—that only a true rose kilim can deliver, and this exceptional vintage Turkish flat-weave captures that feeling with disarming elegance. Inspired by the whimsical exuberance of Mario Buatta and the polished charm of classic Chintz interiors, this piece transforms a room into a curated tableau of floral opulence. Its open abrashed red field provides a velvety stage for a sweeping display of roses, rendered with a painterly softness that evokes both nostalgia and couture-level restraint. At the heart of the composition lies a magnificent stylized bouquet, framed by a dramatically cusped medallion that feels almost baroque in its flourish. The artistry here is unmistakable—this is not simply a decorative element, but a celebration of abundance, femininity, and heritage. The roses bloom in shades of cream, teal, emerald, and blush, creating an irresistible, layered depth that feels transported from a lacquered English drawing room or the salon of an old-world grand estate. Around this lyrical center, a deep black-coffee border intensifies the contrast and adds an air of high drama. The surrounding garlands of roses and foliage echo the central bouquet, unifying the entire composition with a rhythm that is both stately and playful. The interplay of soft pastels against the dark frame creates a chiaroscuro effect, lending the kilim a curated, museum-worthy presence—a rarity among floral flat-weaves. For collectors and designers with a taste for the extraordinary, this exquisite work of art is more than a textile—it is a statement piece with personality, pedigree, and undeniable magnetism. It evokes the lavish romance of vintage chintz while retaining the crisp geometry and artisanal integrity of Anatolian weaving. This is a treasure for a space that demands charm, sophistication, and a whisper of theatrical luxury. Also known as: Bessarabian Rose...

French Antique Franco-Prussian War Painting of Cuirassiers by Paul Perboyre
French Antique Franco-Prussian War Painting of Cuirassiers by Paul Perboyre

French Antique Franco-Prussian War Painting of Cuirassiers by Paul Perboyre

By Paul Emile Léon Perboyre

Located in Shippensburg, PA

PAUL EMILE LÉON PERBOYRE French, 1851-1929 Cuirassiers Sharing Wine with Rural Countryman Oil on canvas signed lower left "Perboyre" Item # 309ULM18A A rich historical painting that captures the heart and reality of the Franco-Prussian conflict, the scene depicts a troop of Cuirassiers stopping for the afternoon in a non-descript field in the French countryside. Presumably the owner of the field, an older man has come out in the heat of the afternoon to greet the soldiers with a basket of wine bottles, offering a glass to the officers while chatting casually with them. Perhaps he is a local guide offering a sense of what the soldiers might expect in the rural countryside, but more likely it is simply a moment of reprieve in the idyllic countryside and a distinct juxtaposition to the intensity and drama of Perboyre's battle scenes.
