THE PERFUME IS SILVER GILT AND DATES TO CIRCA 1850-1900. The enamel images on the perfume are as fine and wonderful as we have ever seen. The classical subject matter is absolutely stunning. On one side is a goddess maiden rising out of the water on the back of a merman with another merman rising out of the water and holding her robes. There is a fish in the water and the background includes a cloud filled sky, with a tower and trees. On the other side, the goddess maiden is climbing onto the back of the magnificent centaur who kneels by the side of a stream with a temple in the background. The cap is further adorned with elegant geometric flower motif designs in enamel. The classic images from mythology are absolutely exquisite and the work of a master enamel artisan of the highest quality. The perfume bottle is silver gilt. IT HAS BEAUTIFUL ACANTHUS LEAF SCROLL MOTIF ENGRAVING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE LOCKET. ON ONE SIDE ARE THREE VICTORIAN INITIALS AT THE BOTTOM. THE LOCKET HAS A MATCH STRIKER ON ONE SIDE. William Hair Haseler was born to John and Sarah Evett (Hair) Haseler in 1821/1822 in Birmingham, England. In 1870, Haseler founded the company, W. H. About the Artist Mona Van Riper was raised in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. She began silver-smithing at the Mabel Dodge Lujan House in Taos in 1976. Making and designing jewelry has been a constant part of her life ever since. Mona is most well-known for her elaborate and intricate buckles, whether with a western theme, crown, fleur-de-lis, heart or with her eponymous skulls. Most of the country’s finest buckle makers—often artisans who learned the skills from their fathers and grandfathers—ply their craft in remote locales, often in obscurity. Mona Van Riper fits that profile.
