Spanish Catalan Xavier Corbero Bronze Steel Architectural Abstract Sculpture
Spanish Catalan Xavier Corbero Bronze Steel Architectural Abstract Sculpture

Spanish Catalan Xavier Corbero Bronze Steel Architectural Abstract Sculpture

By Xavier Corberó i Olivella

Located in Surfside, FL

Xavier Corberó Olivella (1935 – 2017) Estructuras Continual Bronze sculpture. Comprised of four elements, independant, 1 spheric. 5 X 8 X 7 inches approximately. The pieces are kinetic and moveable so dimensions are a bit variable. This is accompanied by a hand signed and dated photo certificate of the piece. A silver gelatin photograph. The photo is badly torn. Xavier Corberó i Olivella (1935 – 2017) was a prominent Catalan artist, best known for monumental public sculpture and his palatial house complex in Esplugues de Llobregat near Barcelona. He has been described as "widely considered the most important Catalan artist since Antonio Gaudí," as "one of Spain’s most celebrated sculptors" and as having "perhaps influenced Barcelona more than any artist since Gaudí." Corberó's grandfather Pere Corberó i Casals (1875-1959) was an entrepreneur and artist whose works included the bronze memorial on the birthplace of Enrique Granados, also in Lleida. He was a cofounder of Barcelona's association for the promotion of decorative arts, a precursor to the Design Museum, now known as the Foment de les Arts i el Disseny. The Corberó foundry produced sculptures by prominent Catalan sculptors of the time such as Pablo Gargallo, Josep Viladomat and Frederic Marès. It was also an industrial and commercial business that sold bronze doors, chandeliers, fountains, and other decorative items, with a showroom in downtown Barcelona at Rambla de Catalunya 105, in a building designed by Arnau Calvet i Peyronill, and a workshop nearby at Carrer Aribau 103. Pere's son and Corberó's father, Xavier Corberó i Trepat (1901-1981), also worked in the family bronze...

Daniel Arsham Hollow Mickey Mouse White Sculpture Walt Disney Art Collaboration

By Daniel Arsham

Located in Surfside, FL

Daniel Arsham (1980- ) Hollow Mickey (White) 2019 Dimensions: 13 h x 12 w x 13 d Cast resin sculpture. This artwork is from the edition of 500 It is not hand signed or numbered and does not come with th box. Daniel Lambert Arsham (born 8 September 1980) is an American visual artist. He lives and works in New York City. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Miami, Florida, Arsham was 12 when Hurricane Andrew destroyed his childhood home. This traumatic event has been a continuous theme through his work. Arsham attended the Design and Architecture High School and was awarded a full scholarship to The Cooper Union in New York City. After graduating from school, Arsham moved back to Miami and started an exhibition space called "The House" with several artist friends It was through The House that Arsham met Emmanuel Perrotin in 2004. By 2005, Galerie Perrotin in Paris was representing Arsham. Arsham was part of a circle of Miami artists around Carlos Betancourt that included Craig Coleman, Carlos Alves and Kenny Scharf as well as younger artists like Martin Oppel, Bhakti Baxter and Daniel Arsham.Arsham was invited to create stage design and tour with choreographer Merce Cunningham's Dance Company leading to ongoing stage design practice and a sustained collaboration with choreographer and former Cunningham dancer, Jonah Bokaer. Arsham founded Snarkitecture with Alex Mustonen in 2007. The architecture collaboration has included work with fashion brands, interior and architectural design, and a complete line of functional design objects. Daniel Arsham is mostly known for his objects cast in volcanic ash - as if they were found on some future archeological site. They are called "Future Relics". Daniel Arsham’s "Future Relics" series is one of the most enigmatic and compelling ongoing art projects. Arsham’s artistic oeuvre primarily consists of taking objects that we do not use anymore — old clocks, phones, cameras or music cassettes — and recasts them as archaeological artifacts, as if they were excavated by scientists in some distant, dystopian future. The packaging of the relics is done in a very particular way. The design of the packaging looks almost like something you would find in a museum setting, but a back-of-house museum setting, where they would keep artifacts and relics. They would be numbered, with information about the weight, provenance and where they were discovered. In 2014, Arsham was named to the Hypebeast HB100 list, and has continued to remain on the Top 100 list to date. Some of Arsham's more recent collaborative endeavors exist in the fashion world. These include projects with brands such as Tiffany, Adidas, Dior, Toraichi, Byredo, Rimowa, and Porsche. Arsham's work has been shown at PS1 in New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, The Athens Biennale in Athens, Greece, The New Museum in New York, Mills College Art Museum in Oakland, Cincinnati CAC, SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah GA, California and Carré d'Art de Nîmes, France, among others. Longtime friends Ronnie Fieg and Arsham have collaborated on numerous projects. Snarkitecture has designed six KITH stores, located in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles among others. In June 2017, Daniel Arsham and adidas' New Installation opened at KITH New York. The store was transformed into an "audio, visual and tactile experience" with a functioning New York payphone as the centerpiece, painted in adidas' signature blue. October 2017 marked the opening of the Arsham Fieg gallery located inside KITH New York. The gallery has had exhibitions from FriendsWithYou, Evren Erol, Youn Lee, Mike Lee and Sam Friedman. In May 2019, Arsham collaborated with Rimowa on a 500 piece limited edition series of eroded suitcase sculptures contained in functional Rimowa attaché cases. The collection was launched with the auction of a one-of-one example containing a hand-signed drawing of the work by Arsham at Sotheby's. In September 2022, Arsham and Rimowa released two 500 piece limited editions of pilots cases in silver or black containing eroded turntable sculptures. In January 2022, Arsham released an animated Pokemon short titled "A Ripple in Time" by Pokémon × Daniel Arsham...

I Forgot How Beautiful You Are

I Forgot How Beautiful You Are

By Tracey Emin

Located in Miami, FL

racey Emin, in full Tracey Karima Emin, (born July 3, 1963, Croyden, Greater London, England), British artist noted for using a wide range of media—including drawing, video, and installation art, as well as sculpture and painting—and her own life as the subject of her art. Her works were confessional, provocative, and transgressive, often portraying sexual acts and reproductive organs. Critics were seldom lukewarm in their response to her. Like Damien Hirst and Sarah Lucas, she was considered one of the YBAs (Young British Artists; also known as the BritArtists) who came to prominence in the 1990s. Emin and her twin brother, Paul, were born to an unwed mother. Their father, who was married to someone other than their mother, was a Turkish Cypriot. Emin grew up in the seaside resort town of Margate. She dropped out of school at age 13 and moved to London at 15. Two years later she attended Medway College of Design (now part of the University for the Creative Arts), Rochester, where she studied fashion. She was accepted without a secondary-school certificate at nearby Maidstone College of Art (also now part of UCA) and earned a fine-arts degree in 1986. Thereafter she obtained a master’s degree in painting (1989) from the Royal College of Art in London. In 1993, in the former London borough of Bethnal Green, Emin and fellow artist Lucas opened a store where they sold their own handmade items. One of Emin’s earliest exhibitions took place in 1993–94 at the influential White Cube gallery on Duke Street (1993–2002). That show, ironically titled “My Major Retrospective,” gave a hint of things to come. It displayed personally significant artifacts from Emin’s life, such as a hospital bracelet and personal correspondence, in addition to a quilt on which she had stitched the names of family members and notes to them. In 1994 Emin undertook a U.S. tour of performance art for which, sitting in her grandmother’s chair...

Ted Egri Taos Modernist Judaica Cubist Bronze Sculpture Rabbi & Torah WPA Artist

Located in Surfside, FL

Ted Egri (American, 1913-2010) Bronze sculpture Rabbi Signed Egri and numbered 4/30 on side. Dimensions: 12"L x 8.5"H x 6.75" D Born in New York city in 1913 to a Hungarian Jewish emigre family (both of his parents were born in Hungary), Egri was first exposed to music later dropping that for art. He studied with Howard Giles at the Master Institute of the Roerich Museum in New York where he was introduced to Oriental arts, Chinese and Japanese art forms, and later with Hans Hofmann. He worked for the Federal Arts Project, the WPA, making mural paintings and silkscreen prints as well as easel painting. Once WWII began, Egri signed up to serve as a map maker for the Navy, and was witness to some of the fiercest battles in the Pacific. As an artist, he painted many important depictions of his wartime experiences and these works have all be donated to the U.S. Naval Museum. Already a practicing painter and instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute, Ted Egri came to Taos, New Mexico with his wife Kit in 1950 to continue his study of painting at Ribak's Taos Valley Art School on the GI Bill. Louis Ribak quickly introduced Egri to Eulalia Emetaz, the owner of La Galleria Escondida, who gave him his first one-person show in 1951. A prolific and versatile artist, as well as arts organizer and advocate, Egri's contributions to underserved African American, Native American, Hispanic and women were honored by two Taos mayors, with no less than two Ted Egri days during his 50-year art career in Taos. Egri remained in Taos. He became widely known for his sculpture, influenced by cubism and painting, with his style ranging from abstract to realistic. Egri had incredible draftsmanship - charcoal, pencil, pastel, watercolor, oils, mixed media, pen and ink, acrylic, gouache Over time his work gradually shifted from its focus on human struggle to an exploration of natural elements and the changes that come about as a result of living in a physical environment like Taos. "The impact of the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the vast spaces of the mesas directed me toward space and form. I moved into sculpture," Egri said in a 1987 interview with ARTSPACE magazine. He was included in a show at Stables Gallery along with Emil Bisttram, Louis Catusco, Edward Corbett, Lawrence Calcagno, Keith Crown, Andrew Dasburg, John De...

Painted Wood Assemblage Abstract Art Sculpture Painting Gordon Powell Modernist

Located in Surfside, FL

Gordon Powell (American, 1947-) Hand signed and dated verso. Trio 2006 Pine and gesso Dimensions: Framed 23 1/2” x 18” Gordon Powell received his M.F.A. from the University of Illinois in Chicago and his B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute, where he now serves as a full adjunct professor. His many awards include the prestigious Prix de Rome and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. His work is in numerous collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago. Chicago abstract artist Gordon Powell describes his work as having to do with “building, about putting things together to make a physical form.” He manipulates common objects and positions them in new and unexpected contexts. In this piece, Powell uses pieces of wood to create a sculptural relief. He forms a puzzle-like surface with carved and whitewashed pieces, joins them together to provide linear definition, and adds surface cuts in some areas. Notice how Powell allows the grains, imperfections and natural formations of the wood to be an integral part of his work. "In my practice I work with “fragments” which I make from old pattern paper templates, mdf, and paint. Laid out on the table or floor, the materials are cut into different shapes and the surfaces painted or marked. They are then brought together and arranged or composed into a form and then glued together. The process and choices are the result of improvisation; comparing one fragment next to another to see how they work together." The images and shapes are abstract. His style is similar to the collage and assemblage works of French artist Georges Noel, Arman and Cesar and American artist Cecil Touchon. Select Exhibitions Gordon Powell has participated in include the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Cultural Center, Racine Art Museum, Sculpture Center, New York, Roy Boyd Gallery Chicago and Los Angeles, Virgina Zabriskie Gallery, New York, Perimeter Gallery Chicago and New York City, the American Academy in Rome, Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, and Gallery 400 at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Select Collections include The Art Institute of Chicago, State of Illinois, City of Chicago, Rockford Art Museum, Racine Art Museum and the Elmhurst Art Museum. (see complete resume) Select Awards and Residencies include the Rome Prize (Prix de Rome), National Endowment for the Arts, Illinois Arts Council Fellowships, School of the Art Institute Of Chicago Faculty Enrichment Grants, Yaddo Residency, Dora Maar House, Manerbe, France, American Academy in Rome Residencies, and Krems, Austria Residency, Karl Hofer Gesellschaft Residency, Berlin.
