Mid-Century Modern Architectural Pottery sculptural "Double Cone" Planter by LaGardo Tackett , rarely seen double cone version with wider base than top in a white glaze. Provenance 1960s MCM building of the Odd Fellows Association Hall - St. Louis. It was used with sand for an ashtray , seen in photos 5 & 6. The 1960s MCM modification to an existing building was designed by architect William E. Duncan and demolished in the summer of 2020. Duncan not only selected these planters , the entire hall, had Saarinen , Eames, Nelson, Howard Miller and Nessen designs. The condition is good, only with minor scuffs, no chips and light staining to interior as seen in photos. Stamped Architectural Pottery made in the USA. When the planter is on its side, it reminds me of the famous brass drawer pull on Paul McCobb designed furniture. Karl or Franz Hagenauer Austrian Art Deco Patinated Brass Female Dancer Figure
Karl or Franz Hagenauer Austrian Art Deco Patinated Brass Female Dancer Figure

Karl or Franz Hagenauer Austrian Art Deco Patinated Brass Female Dancer Figure

By Karl Hagenauer, Franz Hagenauer

Located in St. Louis, MO

Female depictions played a crucial role in the oeuvre of both Hagenauer brothers from the very beginning of their careers. Throughout the years, Karl and Franz Hagenauer created an incredible variety of sculptures centered around the fluid beauty of the female form—ranging from athletic poses to sophisticated character depictions. Expressive modern dance served as an essential source of inspiration for the workshop, yielding iconic modernist designs including their celebrated tribute to Josephine Baker. This patinated brass figure captures a snapshot of dynamic, expressive dance. Supported entirely by one long, elegant standing leg, the form conveys effortless lightness as if floating mid-performance. Her head is turned slightly downwards over the shoulder in semi-profile, radiating quiet tranquility against her energetic pose. Reduced overall and yet rich in subtle detail, the sculpture features clearly discernible elements—including delicate eyelids, fingers, and an indented navel. Mounted on its original turned, dark-stained wooden base bearing authentic stamped marks. Dimensions: Overall Size: 11 1/8" H × 7 1/16" W × 2 7/8" D Maker: Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien Designers: Attributed to Karl Hagenauer (Austrian, 1898–1956) / Franz Hagenauer (1906–1986) Period: Circa 1930s–1950s Style: Austrian Art Deco / Wiener Werkstätte School / Modernist Expressive Dance Materials: Patinated Cast & Hand-Finished Brass, Turned Hardwood Base Markings: Underside of wooden base stamped: HANDMADE, HAGENAUER WIEN, wHw circular monogram stamp, and MADE IN VIENNA AUSTRIA Excellent vintage condition overall. The brass figure retains a deep, original dark patinated finish displaying minor, age-appropriate wear and light patina consistent with gentle handling. The turned wooden base is solid with tight hardware; all stamped maker marks on the underside remain crisp and clearly legible. Period: 1930–1939 / 1950–1959 Styles: Art Deco, Modernist, Wiener Werkstätte, Mid-Century Modern Place of Origin: Austria (Vienna / Wien) Materials: Patinated Brass, Wood Keywords: Werkstatte Hagenauer Wien, Karl Hagenauer dancer, Franz Hagenauer sculpture, wHw monogram mark, Austrian Art Deco bronze figure, patinated brass dancer sculpture...

By Willy Johansson, Hadeland, Erik Höglund

Located in St. Louis, MO

A striking Norwegian Mid-Century style art glass figural sculpture of a Viking warrior with a shield, designed by artist Lena Hansson for Hadeland Glassverk (Norway). Unsigned. Standing 7 7/8 inches high, this substantial glass figure features a heavy solid glass body in deep, dark glass with rich purple and amethyst undertones that catch the light. The front is accented with an applied round glass shield medallion with raised stud details, and the piece is completed with a clear glass head topped with a horned helmet. 1960s Sigvard Nilsson for Söwe Konst Sweden Sculptural Teak Biomorphic Bowl

By Sigvard NIlsson, Sowe Konst

Located in St. Louis, MO

An exquisite and rare mid-century modern sculptural teak bowl, designed by the celebrated master craftsman Sigvard Nilsson for his own workshop, Söwe Konst (Sövestad, Sweden) circa 1960. This highly collectible biomorphic vessel—often referred to by collectors as a "nut cache" or scoop bowl—features a striking, fluidly draped asymmetrical rim and organic contours that effortlessly bridge fine art and functional design. Hand-carved from a single piece of solid, premium old-growth teakwood, the bowl boasts a magnificent, tight wood grain that wraps dramatically around its rounded, tactile form. The underside is fully authenticated with the foundry's official incised hot stamp: "Söwe Konst Sövestad Sweden Genuine Teakwood." Possessing a wonderful structural weight and a silky, oil-rubbed finish, this iconic piece of Scandinavian Modernism makes a stunning standalone table centerpiece, mantle sculpture...
