Colorful Light Green and Red Abstract - Acrylic on Canvas by Eric K. Fiazi
Located in Pasadena, CA
Abstraction offers a unique opportunity to delve into the space between the visible and the invisible. Acting as a conduit connecting the tangible and the intangible, it encourages us to explore various interpretations in a dreamlike state. In this abstract oil painting by California resident artist Erik Fiazi, the canvas is full of dynamic, nervous brush gestures, evoking images that might recall a continent or torn fabric. Whether it is the phalanges of a fist ready to burst and rip the canvas or a nation symbolized by colors that could be similar to those of a flag. There are so many possible interpretations. In any case, the work releases a raw and unbridled energy, Charged with a force worthy of a revolution like a raised fist, with its red which invades our entire field of vision, a rebellion underlined by the nervousness of the gestures of application of colors next to each other and also on top of each other, probably applied both with a knife and with a large brush. There is thickness and a lot of density. Abstraction is a challenging genre because, beyond the technique, the magic lies in the ability to penetrate the viewer's heart. By contemplating this work through the prism of allegorical reading, we can discern the echoes of a nation in turmoil: a landscape emptied of its green splendor; in fact, green appears in the minority, invaded by the burning red of destruction and flames. The central block resembles an island adrift in a navy blue sea, evoking isolation and vulnerability after a tumultuous storm. The foam of the waves reminds us of the instability inherent in life. Yet within this chaos lies a profound lesson: while the surface may churn under the unleashing of the elements, the bottom of the ocean remains still, offering a symbolic parallel to the importance of maintaining solid foundations amidst the turbulence of life. Eric Fiazi...

Contemporary Acrylic Abstract Painting by Mitchell Wright
Located in Pasadena, CA
This blue monochrome painting by contemporary artist Mitchel Wright transports us to distant worlds beyond our comprehension. Within his seemingly infinite networks of lines, dots, and crosses, he decodes the recognizable to create something unfamiliar. Wright crosses shades of blue and grey lines, reconstructing a sense of regularity obtained by the arrangement of different triangles sizes. The triangular forms used for the painting contrast with the perfect square shape of the artwork. It sits in a grey metal frame. Mitchell Wright...

Black and White Acrylic Abstract by Shant Beudjekian
Located in Pasadena, CA
In this abstract expressionist painting by Shant, the tension between black and white creates an immediate, palpable sense of unease, which could recall the chaos and turmoil often associated with Lebanon's complex history. Indeed, Shank was born in Lebanon in Beirut in '71. From 1975 to 1992, Lebanon was the scene of a multifaceted war. Very deadly for the civilian population, it involved various protagonists, and a civil war broke out in 1975-1976, then again in 1983-1985. Whether consciously or unconsciously distancing from these events, having been exposed to them directly or through the tragic experiences of families who remained in the country, the bold brushstrokes and swirling circular shapes evoke a sense of urgency, reflecting the inner turmoil and external conflicts that may have shaped the artist's experience. Abstract expressionism is a free universe where everyone can interpret a painting according to its history, its current events, whatever the resonance may be between the personal history of the spectator and that of the artist. The chaotic composition of this piece invites us to explore our inner worlds as we navigate through the painting's complex layers of meaning. Shant fills space with dynamic energy, creating an organization of forms, a dialogue that challenges traditional notions of order and structure. It is impossible to separate Shant's artistic expression from the socio-political context of Lebanon. The artist's education undoubtedly influences his point of view, infusing the work with a questioning that resonates on a profoundly universal level. Ultimately, Shant's abstract expressionism in this painting transcends mere representation, inviting viewers to confront the complexities of the human condition and the lasting impact of conflict on the individual and collective psyche. He was born in 1971 in Beirut, Lebanon, where Shant Beudjekian’s art practice was discovered at 14, after gaining recognition from the Swiss national youth soccer team and winning many trophies and medals then. In 1995, after moving to California, San Diego, he completed a 4 year Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Ceramics at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. He also attended a one-year internship in landscape architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. He returned to Southern California in 2004, where he practiced as a full-time Artist in the Local Art Communities of Southern California. He has been painting for 25 years while receiving appreciative acceptances from curators and Gallery Directors from the East Coast. He exhibited in several cities on the East Coast of the United States, along with exhibitions in the Chelsea District of Manhattan, New York. Now living on the West Coast, Beudjekian has been notable for exhibiting Art and selling on numerous occasions at the San Diego Art Institute of the Living Artists, Del Mar Art Center, San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care, and Forest and Ocean Gallery...

Gouache

Vibrant Gouache by Rupert Picott
Located in Pasadena, CA
This gouache reveals a butterfly tree with wings covered in multiple eyes towards the observer. In this primitive kaleidoscope playing with perspectives, the artist Rupert Picott leads us into a dance of forms, half-animal, half-vegetal. Here, we can breathe a nature distanced from civilization, a shattered, psychedelic dimension that opens the doors of a hallucinated perception. This gouache transcends its physical form. Like a dream woven into reality, it beckons viewers to question the boundaries of their consciousness. Each brushstroke becomes a portal to a realm where the mundane and the mystical intertwine, blurring the lines between what is seen and felt. In this dialogue between forms and colors, Rupert Picott offers us not just a painting but a glimpse into the infinite expanse of the human experience, echoing William Blake’s timeless wisdom: ‘If the doors of perception...

"Phase 2 Variation IV" Black and White Abstract Fantasy Etching by Paul A. L.
Located in Pasadena, CA
This monochromatic, black-and-white abstract painting plays a constant game between forms and shadows. For the painter, his artworks are a pure contrast between the visible and the invisible. Dark gestural lines decorate the background and contrast against a disappearing white background with subtle details of grey. Organic patterns appear in the black line work, creating an ethereal use of depth and space. The foreground contains multiple uncanny shapes feeding an overall fantasy yet gloomy atmosphere. The title of the artwork is "Phase 2...

Modern Orange, Brown, Yellow, and Black Geometric Abstract Pattern Painting
By John Little
Located in Houston, TX
Modern orange, brown, yellow, and black geometric abstract composition by textile designer John Little. The work was created as a proposed design for a wallpaper and features the original color codes in the front lower left corner. Currently hung in a solid black frame with a large white margin. Dimensions Without Frame: H 35.5 in. x W 33.5 in. Artist Biography: A painter and textile designer, John Little is best known for gestural works filled with boldly explosive color that reflect the influences of his teacher Hans Hofmann and for his involvement in the Abstract Expressionist movement in East Hampton, where he moved in the late 1940s. In East Hampton Little congregated with Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and the other artists who were the leading innovators in the New York School. John Little was born in Sanford, Alabama. He left home at the age of fourteen to become an artist, and moved to Buffalo, New York, in 1923. After spending a year working as a stevedore on the docks to save money, he enrolled at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy and developed an interest in singing. In 1927 he moved to New York City where he continued his vocal work and studied operatic literature. He also became involved in textile design, opening his own store in 1920, called John Little Studios: Fabric and Wallpaper Design. He ran the store until 1950. In 1933 John Little resumed his painting studies at the Art Students League in New York under the guidance of George Grosz (1893-1959). The following year he made his first visit to East Hampton, Long Island, which he would eventually call home. Later in the decade, he traveled to Paris where he became familiar with European modernism. On his return to America, he taught textile design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He hired Josephine Watkins to work for him; she later became his wife. Little's textile store and teaching job gave him a financial security that was rare during the Depression, and he never found it necessary to find employment with the Works Progress Administration. At the end of the decade, John Little studied with Hans Hofmann (1880-1966) in New York and Provincetown. Little was greatly influenced by Hofmann, particularly by his views on color theory. In 1942 John Little joined the Navy as an aerial photographer. In the late 1940s he purchased a rundown house on Three Mile Harbor...

Abstract Watercolor by Carl Pappe
Located in Pasadena, CA
"Taxco" is a watercolor signed by Carl Pappe, and dated 1989. It is a living example of the artist's sophisticated yet simple painting method. This watercolor serves as evidence of the quote beloved by defenders of quantum theory: "Who picks a flower disturbs a star." One can say that abstraction, in its process of elaboration and manifestation, in every detail, is an activation of an invisible frequency field that structures and provokes the emotion that we always evoke with difficulty when it comes to putting it in words. This Papp's, delicate work of watercolor, with pink and orange tints, densified by black ink tracings and forms, recalls certain works on paper by Miro. It could be a tribute, and surely much more, a continuity, as the quality and delicate reception carry us and our five senses into a moment of poetic softness and hypnotic floating. But far behind the softness, we can experience another reality such as memories of persecution; a work like a ballet where life and death, colors and black, would answer each other like two performers becoming one and the same subject for eternity. Carl Lewis Pappe...

"Bébé Jumeau " Mixed Media by Mary Morrison (Koenen Clausen)
Located in Pasadena, CA
Mary Morrison, previously Mary Koenen Clausen, is a singular artist whose art is heavily influenced by meditative states. She affirms that God transmits divine inspiration to her mind and body, allowing her to channel it into her art. She describes her paintings with a devotional quality similar to religious icons and Spanish retablos as shrouded in mystery, with deeper meanings that may be uncovered at a later time. This stunning collage and oil painting showcase the artist's layered approach to creation, inviting the viewer to explore a unique and personal experience. Entitled "bebe jumeau", (Twin baby) the piece features a tripartite structure reminiscent of the three planes: Heaven, Earth, and Underworld, painted in deep and contrasting hues. The main character could be one of the members of a military band - announcing the birth of twins  - wearing a red headdress and with sixteenth notes attached all around the costume. The attached musical notes could be reminiscent of the symbolism of needles stuck in voodoo dolls. On each side of the body are two keys like those used in music boxes, creating a sense of repetition. Shapes, colors, other characters, French words...
