Through This Window, Thin Rivers - Framed Colorful Abstract Art

By Raul de la Torre

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Barcelona native artist Raul de la Torre's vibrant abstract mixed media artworks pay homage to textiles. De La Torre allows the materials to take over during the process and collaborates with the unexpected to create works that speak to the natures of dynamism and unity. Experimentation with different materials, textures, and techniques in each of his paintings has been a point of discovery and a major part of Raul de la Torre’s work. In his Fils I Colors series he attempts to find the third dimension through the use of different materials. This colorful 30-inch high by 24-inch wide original artwork on canvas is framed in a natural wood frame. It is wired and ready to hang. Size and price include frame. It is signed, dated, and titled by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. This artwork is part of de la Torre's Brooklyn Series, which he describes as, "inspired by Brooklyn: the people, the art, the colors, the textures, the poetry." The interaction between the artist, gravity, and the paint is important for the final result. A tilting technique permits the paint to be a major architect of the final result, giving it a life of its own. It results in infinite and timeless color combinations. In many cases, the different layers of color each represent a temporary state of mind, time, and even feelings, places and people. Some of them are embroidered forever in our memory turning to form part of our DNA. To represent the firmness and strength of that past the cotton is mixed with the paint in the works to form a unity. Embroidery provides another layer as it creates thick shadows with organic shapes. De la Torre makes horizontal cuts on the canvas and covers these open areas using color matching cotton thread. When combined with light, these shapes create a more dynamic surface and offer different views of the work to various observers. Raul de la Torre was born in Barcelona in 1964 and attended Massana Art School. About the Fils series, de la Torre remarks: “FILS I COLORS is an attempt to find life, movement and parts that are not static, that change in their interaction with the observer. The different combinations of colors represent different emotions and interpretations for each individual interacting with the works.” Raul de la Torre's artworks can be found in the collections of The Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, the Rothschild Family Collection, and varying Hilton properties. His works have been exhibited and collected worldwide. Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Raul de la Torre's original artworks since 2010. By Patricia Miranda

Located in Darien, CT

Patricia Miranda's work includes interdisciplinary installation, textile, paper and books. The textiles incorporated in these new pieces are vintage linens from her Italian and Irish grandmothers and sourced from friends and strangers around the country. Each donation is documented and integrated into the work. Textile as a form that wraps the body from cradle to grave. The role of lacemaking in the lives of women both economically and historically is packed with metaphorical potential. The relationship of craft and women’s work (re)appropriated by artists today to environmental and social issues is integral to the artist's research. Her work is process oriented; materials are submerged in natural dyes from oak gall wasp nests, cochineal insects, turmeric, indigo, and clay. She forages for raw materials, cook dyes, grind pigments, ecofeminist actions that consider environmental impacts of objects. The process is left visible as dyestuff is unfiltered in the vat and finished work. Sewn into larger works, Miranda incorporates hair, pearls, bone beads, Milagros, cast plaster. The distinct genetics and environmental and cultural history of each material asserts its voice as collaborator rather than medium. The lace inserts a visceral femininity into the pristine gallery, and exerts a ghostly trace of the history of domestic labor. The combination of earth and lace references human and environmental devastation and the conflation of nature and women’s bodies as justifications for exploitation. Mournful and solastalgic, they are lamentations to the violence against women and the earth. Patricia Miranda is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, educator, and founder of The Crit Lab, graduate-level critique seminars and Residency for artists, and MAPSpace project space. She has been Visiting Artist at Vermont Studio Center, the Heckscher Museum, and University of Utah; and been awarded residencies at I-Park, Weir Farm, Vermont Studio Center, and Julio Valdez Printmaking Studio. She received an Anonymous Was a Woman Covid19 Artist Relief Grant, an artist grant from ArtsWestchester/New York State Council on the Arts, and was part of a year-long NEA grant working with homeless youth. Miranda currently teaches graduate curatorial studies at Western Colorado University, and develops programs for K-12, museums, and institutions such as Franklin Furnace. Her work has been exhibited at ODETTA, NYC; ABC No Rio, NYC; Alexey von...

"Emblem" paper collage, hand-embroidery, neon, geometric pattern, thread

By Kelly Kozma

Located in Philadelphia, PA

This piece titled "Emblem" is an original artwork made from collage, hand embroidery, and latex paint on canvas by Kelly Kozma. This piece is shipped in the pictured white frame and measures 6"h x 6"w framed. The catalyst for this new body of work was a jar of leftover magazine cutouts from a collage I made in 2010. Reusing leftover materials as well repurposing items that might end up thrown away, has become a very important part of my process the past decade. Stumbling across this jar of coin sized images that had waited patiently on a shelf for 12 years, ignited my creative process and drove me to explore collage in a new way. Unlike the piece from 2010 in which I assembled the images by piecing them together, I decided to examine each individual cut out on its on. By removing the image from any other context it allows you to focus solely on its meaning, purpose or feelings that it may evoke. Each image is embedded in a field of French knots which felt like a way of creating a time capsule of sorts for the object. Another inspiration behind this collection is my six year old son and his endless piles of sticks, stones, leaves, etc in our home. Only to him they aren’t sticks and stones, they are treasures. His ability to find a tiny twig or scrap of paper and not only cherish it but give it a backstory of why it is so special, is a beautiful thing and one I have tried to tap into with my new work. By placing a picture of a rubberband ball or a set of Dracula teeth or a banana in this embroidered box...

She then formalized her studies in art direction and advertising in Buenos Aires, Argentina. That same year her illustrations accompanied Pilar Gualco`s literary work in Buenos Aires at Fauna Estudio Taller. In 2017, she fell in love with embroidery. Slowly, she connected techniques and in the process dressed up a lot of weird humans. She showed her work in 2019 at Noches San Felipe and Open San Felipe with SGR and Bandy Bandy galleries in Bogotá, Colombia. Her series AFFAIR was shown at Noches del Millón, from Feria del Millón in Medellín, Colombia at the end of 2019. "Popular Item" Paper collage, hand-embroidery, sushi, rice motif

By Kelly Kozma

Located in Philadelphia, PA

This piece titled "Popular Item" is an original artwork made from collage, hand embroidery, and latex paint on canvas by Kelly Kozma. By placing a picture of a rubberband ball...
