Dancing Ducks in Red, Green, Blue, Purple

By George Chemeche

Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist: George Chemeche – Iraqi/American (1934-2022) Title: Dancing Ducks in Red, Green, Blue, Purple Year: circa 1980 Medium: Screen Print Image size: 19 x 27 inches. Sheet size: 22 x 29 inches. Signature: Signed lower right Edition: 260 This one: 77/260 Condition: Very good Unframed This exceptional geometric abstract serigraph is by the noted Iraqi/American artist George Chemeche (1934-2022 ). He is a master of serigraph printing, but this print has more than technical excellence. It is a wonderful, rhythmic abstract composition. I believe Chemeche might have been a proponent of and/or influenced by the Pattern and Decoration Movement which was happening in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. The print has never been framed and is in very good condition. I will ship the print rolled in a heavyweight tube. George Chemeche was born in 1934 and studied at the Avni Art School in Tel Aviv and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. The style with which he is intimately associated, pattern painting, The most serviceable definition is that pattern is the systematic repetition of a motif or motifs used to cover a surface uniformly. The spaces between motifs are either other motifs or are an integral part of the repeat. Usually, patterning intentionally acknowledges the decorative function of art, reconciling both the decorative and the meaningful. George Chemeche’s work hangs in the lobby of the Hotel Chelsea where many have admired it for years. Please search online for more biographical information by this fine artist. The People, signed 3D photo realist mixed media sculpture of people viewing art

By Howard Kanovitz

Located in New York, NY

Howard Kanovitz The People, 1971 3-5 Mixed Media Silkscreen on Plexiglas and aluminum base Signed: Artist's Signature etched on the work and annotated A.P., Edition of 1 (an Artists Proof, aside from the regular edition of 75) 15 × 16 × 1 1/2 inches Signatured etched on the work and annotated A.P. , aside from the limited edition of 75. This excellent 1971 3-D photo realist work "The People" is a multiple based upon a larger work the artist did of people beholding a work of art. Here, we see them only from behind, because they are busy looking at art - a clever photorealist work - art about art - catching people in the process of looking at art. Howard Kanovitz Biography Howard Kanovitz was a leader of Photo Realism: a documenter of style and fashion, depicting members of the art scene at openings, or superimposing known critics and curators onto images of board room meetings. In his particular style, he explored the intersections of painting, photography, fiction, and fact. Kanovitz studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and The Art Studenst League in Woodstock where he worked with Yasuo Kyniyoshi before moving to New York an apprenticing with Franz Kline. As a member of New York’s downtown art scene, Kanovitz painted abstract paintings, which he exhibited at Tenth Street Galleries early in his career. Following his father’s death in 1963, Kanovitz went through family photos, an experience which prompted him to interrogate the relationship between images and perception. At this time, Kanovitz abandoned abstraction in favor of a figurative style and worked arduously in this new direction. These efforts culminated in a 1966 solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum, securing his place as a leader of Photo Realism among artists such as Larry Rivers, Alex Katz, and Chuck Close. His photo based, representational paintings exhibited at the Jewish Museum show were the first to be called “photo-realist” and shocked many in the art community prompting a symposium which was held at the New York Studio School for “downtown artists” to weigh in on this perennial “hot topic”, newly addressed by one of their own. Kanovitz first began using airbrush in 1967, giving his paintings a feeling of photographic perfection. Cut out figures created using this precisionist technique were placed in the viewers space, often in front of Kanovitz’s painted canvas depicting the luminaries of the art world of the time. This type of installation was the centerpiece in the first of several Waddell Gallery shows. Kanovitz has been the subject of many solo museum shows internationally and his work is collected by institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Britain, London, and Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna. -Courtesy Eric Firestone...

Florida (Pearl Dress)
Florida (Pearl Dress)

Florida (Pearl Dress)

By Erte - Romain de Tirtoff

Located in Greenwich, CT

Florida (Pearl Dress) is an expertly crafted, embossed serigraph on black paper with foil stamping and an image size of 33 x 25.5 inches. From the edition of 686, the art is numbered 212/300 and signed 'Erté' lower right (there were also 300 Roman, 65 AP, 1 PP and 20 HC). framed in an elegant gold-tone moulding. Originally a costume design for the American Millionairess Revue at the Théâtre Fémina in Paris in 1917, Florida (Pearl Dress) stands as a testament to the genius and creativity of Erté. It was at the Théâtre Fémina that Erté worked closely with Gaby Deslys, the greatest French music-hall star of her day. It was Madame Rasimi – the theater’s founder – wo discovered the young Romain de Tirtoff (Erté) and employed his talents to her theater’s great benefit. In Pearl Dress, the flowing gold train cascades from the gown to create a wonderful sense of style and grace. As the primary source of color in the design, the gold and pearls sit in contrast to the dynamic black background of the print, while the geometric pattern of rectangles and squares, all deeply embossed and metal-foiled, create the perception of depth and drama. One of the earliest costume designs by Erté, Pearl Dress stood as a reflection of American culture – of riches and excess – while expressing Erté’s love...

Geronimo FS II.384 Screen Print on Lenox Board, Pop Art, Signed, 1986, Framed

By Andy Warhol

Located in Aventura, FL

Screen print on Lenox museum board. From the Cowboys And Indians Portfolio. Hand signed and numbered lower front by Andy Warhol. Numbered 131/250 (there were also 50 AP's, 15 PP's, 15 HC's and 10 numbered in Roman numerals). Published by Gaultney, Klineman Art, Inc., New York. Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. The artwork is in excellent condition. All reasonable offers will be considered. In Cowboys and Indians, Warhol interspersed recognizable portraits of well-known American heroes with less familiar Native American images and motifs. It demonstrates his ironic commentary on America’s collective mythologizing of the historic West. Rather than portraying Native Americans within their historical landscape, Warhol chose to portray a romanticized version of the American West. The West that he chose to represent is familiar to everyone and can be seen in novels, films, and television series. Warhol’s Cowboys and Indians suite...
